and to see how much battery is left i have to unlock my iphone and pray to strange old gods that it will pop up on screen... it work less than 20% of the times when i want it to show on screen
You don't have to unlock your phone to check battery health... just swipe to the right on the lock screen.
This is confusing, once they are paired, are they not permanently paired?, I have a smart watch which pairs straight away when in contact with my phone, and my phone pairs with my car when I get in. Not once have i had to 're pair them? Is the clue not in the title?
They do stay paired, just not connected. There's a difference. Pairing causes the phone to recognize and initially connect with the AirPods. As soon as you put them back in the case, they're still paired, but they're no longer connected. My problem was that too frequently I would pull them out of the case, but they wouldn't connect until I go to iPhone settings and manually connect them.

I lost my AirPods in trash at a cafeteria. I know when and where, but I was to late to recover them. I plan on getting a new pair as soon as I can, but am holding off to see what Apple announces this month.
I would consider a knock-off in the interim. Cheap backup buds would be good piece of mind.

That has nothing to do with your assumption that Apple hasnt tried to protect their intellectual property because of $$$. The only point to be made is the assumption that Apple hasn’t tried.
Has Apple sued huawei or xaomi in China? They have sued a Norwegian party for infringing the Apple logo, lol.

"Check Out These Cheap $50 AirPods Knockoffs"

Apple's AirPods are one of its most popular product lines in recent years, and have resulted in crazy demand, memes, and dozens of knockoff products.

In our latest YouTube video, we picked up a pair of $50 i10 TWS earphones that have been designed to look like AirPods to see how they measure up to the real thing.

The i10 TWS AirPods knockoffs are almost carbon copies of the AirPods and at first glance, it's hard to tell them apart. There are some noticeable differences to distinguish the two, though, which will be obvious to AirPods owners.

Instead of a Lightning port, the i10 TWS earbuds have a USB-C port for charging, though they also support Qi-based wireless charging, which the AirPods don't offer. There's also an LED charging indicator light on the front and no Bluetooth pairing button on the back.

When it comes to the case, the i10 TWS is clearly lower quality than the AirPods as it's lighter, feels flimsier, and makes a clicking noise when you open the lid, but the fake AirPods inside look quite similar to real AirPods.

The i10 TWS earbuds are nearly indistinguishable from AirPods, and they sound pretty similar too. Sound quality was about the same with both, and the same goes for voice quality when using the microphone for calls.

Like the AirPods, the i10 TWS earbuds use gestures, with a single tap able to play/pause music and a double tap able to skip tracks. A two-second hold activates a voice assistant like Siri.

There are missing AirPods features, though. There's no autopause/autoplay function when removing one of the i10 TWS earbuds from your ear, and there's no simple pairing due to the lack of a W1 chip.

The i10 TWS earbuds pair to a device like any other Bluetooth headphones, and they also don't enjoy the same long range. As for battery life, they last for about three hours worth of streaming music and charge up in about an hour and a half over USB-C.

So while these look, feel, and sound like AirPods, the i10 TWS earbuds are missing some key features, which explains why the price is so much lower. You can snap these up for about $50, which is more than $100 less than the AirPods.

Would you ever buy knockoff AirPods instead of the real thing? Let us know in the comments.

I suppose I might buy something like this, if the price is right. I'm more likely to buy wireless over-ear headphones that use standard AAA or AA cells, though.

There are several different brands available, but the article focused on one brand. Since AirPods is plural, knockoffs should also be plural.

I bought the TWS i7s airpod knock offs (in black) and they are junk. Sound quality is hard to judge because they disconnect so frequently.

Next up counterfeit $100 bills... Why earn the real thing when it's so easy to get fakes? I mean yes most establishments don't accept them but the ones that do are perfectly fine. The counterfeit bills have some huge advantages over real ones beside the much lower cost. First and foremost you don't really worry about losing them nearly as much and ....... /s

Can we not encourage theft in society?

Knockoffs are not the same as counterfeits and are not necessarily illegal. If these knockoffs had the Apple logo or name and were packaged to deceive people into thinking they were buying genuine Apple AirPods, that would be counterfeit, misleading and illegal. Just because they look similar does not mean they violated any law. Closer investigation would be required to determine if they infringed on any patents.

Competition is not theft.

Would I ever buy AirPod knockoffs? No!
However, if my children wanted wireless headphones (17 and 11), I'd consider it, until I knew they could handle not losing them!

Competition is not complete copy of the design so that you cannot tell the difference between the Apple product. If you are not aware complete ripoff copies of products are sold throughout China, Apple included. I have a relative that purchases ripoff products living in Taiwan and the attitude everyone does it bothers me to no end. Stupid American companies have gone completely out of business taking production to China only to have a facility open up next door duplicating every process and stealing their IP. I know this because I tried to stop a division of Emerson from doing this to no avail and sure enough the facility open up next door and they are now the world competitor to this division. Stupid "hey good news we cut our production costs by 75% bad news we are going out of business from Chinese competition !!

Yes, it can be, as long as the branding is different. There are many industries and millions of examples of cheaper copies of more expensive items being sold by competitors. There's nothing wrong with making something that looks like the original, as long as you're not trying to pass it off as the original.

Counterfeit vs. Knockoff: What’s the Difference?

Wow, how absolutely pants!!! At that price point as well.... you can see why the hoards are revolting....

Is left and right inverted on those? There is an updated version with left and right in the correct channel but they are not 1:1 copies. The case is slightly larger and the stalks are slightly fatter and shorter. Also do,you see that black dot on the side? The one that’s the proximity sensor on the real ones. It’s just painted on, on the fake ones.

That's hilarious if true. They put in all the effort to successfully make pretty sophisticated clones and then drop the ball on left vs. right.

So I got a pair of these based on Dan’s review. I disagree with everything that Dan said. Major problems:

1. Connectivity. While listening to music, the right bud would repeatedly lose connection. The phone was in my left pants pocket, and moving it to the right made no difference.

2. Volume. When they did work in stereo listening to music, the volume was fine, but when it came time to make a phone call, I had it maxed out, and had to strain to hear the person on the other end.

3. Phone. When the iPhone screen would turn off, the call would drop. Had this happen multiple times, and my iPhone had full LTE signal strength.

4. No single bud use. Both buds have to be out of the charger for either of them to work.

5. Interoperability. I have my iPhone synced to my car, and tried to place a call, selecting the car as the audio on the iPhone audio selector. At some point, the fake AirPods “stole” the call, and since the buds were in the cup holder, I had to just end the call.

6. Sound quality. Not even remotely like my AirPods. The AirPods are rich sounding. These sound like the very first generation of Apple ear buds.

Thank you for taking the time to offer this information. It's very helpful, and confirmed my suspicions about quality. I'll wait for an update on the real deal. Thanks again!
