When I was in Vegas, the whole paying for gas thing was a huge pain. Trying to find a gas station that would even allow me to pay for gas with a Canadian card was a task.

I know us Canadians bitch on every Apple Pay thread, but we can already pay at the pump at Petro-Canada, and can tap to pay in-store at Petro-Canada, Esso, and I believe Shell.

Annoys to me to know end that the we have endless places to use Apple Pay in Canada but obviously isn't available here. In the US it's widely adopted by the banks, but so few places it can actually be used.

Agreed. I feel like I've been paying at the pump by tapping my credit card for 5-10 years now.

No just tired of every time there's a thread about AP someone comes up with some unlikely scenario and tries to claim AP is "dangerous" when it's not. It's a lot of trolling and it's tiresome.

I never said Apple Pay was dangerous. You need to clear your mind and read properly. All I was saying is uneducated hobos/homeless people might jump on you if they see a shiny nice phone coming out of your pocket. They may think it's easier to make quick cash by selling that phone. It's a probability that I am talking about.

So what you're saying is that hobos might jump on you to take your phone because you're using it with AP, but that's NOT dangerous? Oh, okay. My mistake. o_O

How is this going to work in Oregon? Hand your phone to the attendant?

I would assume at full service stations the employees could carry portable NFC terminals. Waited restaurants could do the same thing.

Does Oregon really not have self-service gas stations? I know of a few full-service gas stations in my corner of the country (Maine/New Hampshire/Massachusetts) but the vast majority are self-service.

I look forward to Apple Pay being accepted at the pump by Mobile. I'll gladly pay an extra 10 cents per gallon for the convenience of Apple Pay.

No, they're all full-service. It's the law, just like in New Jersey.

If this is a true fear you have, where do you think it is safe to use my phone in public? Is it only for use at my house and office? Just wondering.

Gasoline? How quaint.

What I really want to see is Apple pay integration with EVSEs so I can get rid of the myriad of NFC cards I have to keep in all our cars.

Restaurants aren't buying the portable terminals (in my limited experience with chip at them) so I don't think the full service gas stations will do so either. On the other hand, gas stations do support debit already so it might be different for them.

Homeless and hobos who weren't going to jack your phone, but now are because they've seen it? Again, is this an actual fear you have? Because if it is, no one is going to make you use AP. You can keep using your CC if you want.

For me, I've got the watch, I get to leave my wallet and my phone in my locked car, and I don't have to give my actual CC number to the gas station. I'll take that option any day.

Most sensible post on this thread. To me the ultimate Apple Pay experience is using my Apple Watch to pay.

Yeah, we've got a long way to go in the US to catch up with the rest of the world.

I honestly think they would have if we had gone straight to chip and PIN instead of doing chip and signature now and maybe do PIN at some indeterminate point in the future (likely never IMO). I'd have thought that Apple Pay would be a good enough motivator for restaurants to do portable terminals but looks like not.

Enough of your silly little fears, already! You get what you expect. To me, homeless/bums hanging out at a gas station are most likely looking for handouts or windshields to wash for a couple bucks.

Still can't use Apple Pay at any gas station I've tried here in Switzerland, but I was finally able to use it at our local McDonalds tonite. (Burger King beat them to the punch here however.)

Many other stores like Migros*, Coop*, Jumbo, *and the many affiliated subsidiary stores, even my barber with a 2-chair shop are taking Apple Pay (although I am like a man from the future, because very few people have the US based credit card necessary to make it work.)

Whether you use it with AP or not, they MAY jump at anything expensive. Get your head straight!

You have issues with my posting then don't reply! I do not have fear. I was presenting a probable situation.

Insecure as in possibility of hacked readers stealing card numbers or insecure as in possibility of getting robbed? The latter would get worse.

Almost no one is going to steal your phone at the pump, it's just not something theives normally do because it's a terrible business model for them.
