It’s nice that so many are itching to start a war with China but how many are willing to send their kids to die fighting them. Remember if your kid is 12 now in five years he or she will be old enough to go. It will end up that way if we keep pushing. People don’t understand Asian culture when it comes to stuff like this. We’re basically slapping them in the face and forcing them to do something about it.

Well it is actually theft in this case and I do support China in this case.

There has been zero evidence that TikTok misuses or abuses users gather information. Hell, there has been less evidence than with Facebook, which for some reason doesn't get banned in the US. And now, out of nowhere, TikTok suddenly is a threat to American well-being (have the special services been sleeping for the past two years when it was active?), and now Trump all of a sudden suggest a US company should buy it and the government gets a deal cut?

I'm completely against it because with this stupid logic you can ban any app anywhere in the world.

If Facebook can access your microphone, you should expect TikTok to be capable of doing the same. If TikTok reaches the numbers of Facebook and Instagram, then it’ll be installed on a lot of smartphones.

It’s like a Trojan Horse, but instead using it for Instagram ads, they’re using it to serve China’s purposes.

If Microsoft buys TikTok, that is literally the opposite of theft.

No, this is called a raid. Imagine you have a business. Now imagine some nice people in grey suits come to you and tell you that your business is causing some trouble for some "respectable people", and offer you to either sell it with a 20% discount or face the consequences. That is exactly what is happening here

Economic fascism :(
This China / World fight is so much more behind the scenes than the trivial Trump - TikTok rift

"On Wednesday, two senior senators, Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Tom Cotton (R-AR), took aim at the Chinese-owned video app, TikTok, and called for US intelligence officials to investigate it for any threats to national security it may pose." from 2019, but ok, TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP. Edit: of course Trump would never do it if it wasn't also in his interest, but that's the case for all politicians.

China is no much better than the West w.r.t modern economic colonialism either:

china talking about theft is pretty rich.

A billion people aren't out to get you. People in China want to build their businesses and livelihoods the same as anyone else in the world. They are not some evil force out to get you and anything you post on flipping Tiktok is more likely interesting to marking than national intelligence. Be more concerned about Facebook and other USA based companies that have already been caught.

schumer did not do what you are misleading people.

schumer objects to the TSA using Tiktok.

quote from yr link
Schumer said: "Given the widely reported threats, the already-in-place agency bans, and the existing concerns posed by TikTok, the feds cannot continue to allow the TSA's use of the platform to fly.

in the first article, Schumer talks about TikTok as a National security threat.

In the second article, from yesterday, Schumer says that due to the national Security threat issue, an American company should buy TikTok, which is what this thread is about.
I am not misleading anyone, I referenced two primary sources with little or no comment.

Edit: someone else pointed to posts about TikTok and D's in agreement, from 2019.

Then let the Chinese Communist Party explain why the US should have ever passively accepted their ban on Twitter and Facebook within China. Long past time to complete the decoupling and reorient our supply chains towards India and elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire. I don't believe there'll be as much change as people might think. Until such time as people are willing to feel a little bit of pain and accept some personal responsibility the status quo will remain pretty much as is.
Everybody worships the dollar. Takes a big person to turn it down.

Yeah but I don’t recall China ever forcing a highly successful US company to sell itself to China. It’s messed up how the US can force TilTok to sell 100% to US... And even more messed up Trump wants a cut of the sale for the federal government

They can refuse and dont have to sell it, they could perfectly fold it or continue to operate outside US.

It just happens US Ads on Tick Tock are the biggest money maker.

Everyone is acting US is forcing them to sell. As a matter of fact, US is paying to buy that business.

Banning is one thing. But saying "you are out, unless you sell to us"...is...just...wow. Basically mafia

Here is another spin.

You are no longer allowed to operate in US. You can decide to fold it, or you can sell to a US company for an exit.

The Free market you asked? The free market is only valid if the company is not a state company. And no longer can anyone prove any Chinese companies are not state controlled.
