So basically, nothing to see or get excited about.

I am still curious how a 8GB iPhone 3GS cost approx $600.- CAD while an iPod Touch 8GB cost $198.- CAD.

Does the phone portion cost $400.- CAD more? Ridiculous.:rolleyes::p

I am just waiting for a front facing camera, that will get me excited!

I would have thought it was just the WiFi-less China model, but it does look too different.

The simplest explanation is that ANY part rumor could be from a knock-off. Apple clones exist by the dozen—some closer than others (on the outside).

well let s see...

in EU we have

Milestone/Droid with multitouch
HTC Hero...
HTC HD2..
Sony Ericsson X10...
attending HTC Dragon...
BB 9700 Onyx...
Nokia N900 maemo...
Nokia X6...
Palm Pre just arrived...

i think that they must anticipate the presentation of the new iPhone...

afterall the 3GS it is nothing else that e speedbump...even the design is as the 3G for God s shake...

I can see it comming...Q1 2010...

Yeah right.. not going to happen.

If there's anything Apple loves, its their upgrade cycles. iPhone SDK in March for the next big version of iPhone OS.

The way I see it right now...

iPhone OS 4.0 and SDK announced March 2010, July 2010 iPhone 4.0 with new iPhone 4gen with Google turn by turn and radio app.

And so begins the reign of the Unibody iPhone Pro!

I want aluminum, I want that new dual core Arm chip, low power WIFI n / Bluetooth, 720 x 480 display, slightly bigger screen that is flush with the edges, better mic pickup for recording lectures, 30% longer battery life, 64gb capacity, and a front facing camera please!

That would shut up many of the DROID lovers for awhile if it came to pass. In reality, I've learned to expect less than half what I'd really like to get on the next iPhone.

Either way I'll be waiting in line. Which brings me to my next point: last year Apple had their earliest iPhone realease yet. Since we are already seeing leaks, is it plausible that the next iPhone could be released in an April - May time frame? Didn't Apple want to get away from their usual product launches following events like Macworld and WWDC? Plus we also have the special event in the Spring to look forward to iPhone OS 4.0 and all the goodies it will bring. Maybe finally allowing just three background apps? Please?

If I were Apple...

... I would have fun with all these leaks. I'd have a small number of employees whose job it would be to instigate rumors, fake product parts, etc.
Heck, I might even pretend to loose my iPhone patent application form in a giant silver weather ballon shaped like a U.F.O., only to find out it was hiding in a garage attic; you know, just to create buzz.

Wait, maybe macrumors IS Apple!

Woah, just blew my mind.

;)

Silliness aside, I wouldn't be shocked if the next iPhone has a rubberized back, like the new white MacBooks have.

Same here. I'm selling my 3GS, and going back to my 2G, where I'll remain until they get a friggin front-facing vidcam & ichat. & that's probably not going to happen until AT&T has to compete with someone else to be the carrier again. ...of course then it'll take em a year to get around to actually enabling it anyway...

The 3GS is a nice enough device, but since I don't get a decent 3G connection here, not so much nicer that the upgrade is worth the $600 in resale value difference. Amazing how long the battery lasted on the old ones...

This is information from a site that was correct before, when no one else was. So it seems credible. BUT going by Apple's typical upgrade cycle the 3G S has another 7 months or so before it is replaced. If that is correct it seems unlikely for a manufacturer to have parts so far in advance. IIRC this source had 3G S parts a month or two before release, that seems like a much more reasonable time frame.

So what could Apple launch in a month or two that wouldnt piss off all the new iPhone 3G S owners? Well, the rumor always was that AT&T's deal with Apple was only good until 2010... Perhaps the long rumored CDMA iPhone will finally be a reality in the US market!

I could see Steve getting up at CES in January and saying "iPhone has been a huge success blah blah sales are amazing...more international carrier partners blah blah now we are finally offering iPhone on a new carrier here in the USA!" Boom, same thing as the 3G S with slight cosmetic differences. Going forwards Apple keeps the 2 on different schedules with the HSPA model released a few months ahead of the CDMA and pioneering new features on the higher volume HSPA model first.

Me too! This is now what I picture whenever I think about the future of the iPhone. Of course, we won't see this for quite a few years. It is way too thin. However, if it ever became a reality and came in white, I would bite ... hard!

thats gotta be the best looking iPhone (mockup) around! I seriously hope we see that iPhone in the future!!

I'd wager that this is a legit part pic and we'll see some more in the very near future. Sony just did it's official announcement for the X10 and between that and the Droid, lots of people are starting to do the, "oh snap... take that apple!" thing. I called it to some friends that Apple minor part leaks would probably start coming any day now, with bigger and better ones to obviously follow suit. I'd take this as more of a business-saavy leak than a test part leak. It's almost a certainty that someone at Apple is controlling the leaks, as they've always been rather reliable regarding time frames not only from a development standpoint, but also from a business standpoint. Keep in mind, that doesn't bother me one bit personally - I can't wait for apple to show what's up their sleeves. The 3GS wasn't a huge jump for many (internally, it's a much-upgraded phone), but with all the new competition on the market now, Im sure apple has been planning for something pretty spectacular to reenforce their market dominence.

Sexiest piece of substructure plastic ever. Even if this is legitimate, its an internal chunk (seemingly) of plastic that basically shows it has a bezel and a camera.

Shocker.

Im in love with a picture that was circulating before the 3Gs came out... let me look.

EDIT: this is the best looking iPhone ever

Every time I see that picture, my geekometer spikes through the ceiling. This concept would be amazing and can compete with the newer higher res screened phones like the HTC HD2.

From Chinaontrade
We also have final pictures of iPhone 4 Generation with amazingly beautiful back cover that will come here up soon. Please check for updates.

Looking forward to that!

Wow, that X10 looks sexy. I'm actually excited to see all this competition for the iPhone... that means more incentive for Apple to step up their game and it benefits us iPhone owners!

Yay, the next gen iphone rumor mill has started to churn. :)
I agree with the posters above, that iphone mockup is hot!

really???

my first instinct would be to say fake!,,
But then it COULD be real. I mean, Phil Shiller said that others were still catching up to the first iPhone. Which is kind of true. But I think they are really close and most of them could surpass the iPhone very soon. Considering that iPhone is becoming such a big part of apple's success they might want to have slightly faster refresh cycles. i Mean like every ten months instead of the 1 year period. So this could be real. I mean seriously, the 3gs is not WAY ahead of the original. They just added more power and some features. No design change, no better screen, nothing new as such. I think its long overdue.

If this is legit, I do think that we'll see a new iPhone earlier than normal - April sounds feasible.

I'd like the next-gen iPhone to move to the design started by the new iMac, with the glass screen going all the way to the edge, and an aluminum back with the antennas housed in a large black Apple logo.

If they move to the new Broadcom/Atheros chips, along with a move to an OLED screen, we could potentially see a much thinner, power-efficient iPhone. The savings could be used to house a larger battery and external flash, even.

I personally think that this is probably too early for a 4th iPhone model. This may however be for an iPod Touch. Yes, they did just update them, but remember how they were missing the camera?

Maybe this would be for an iPod Touch with a camera. Sure the camera hole isn't where the missing camera was pointed out to be - but who knows. Then again, this could just be a piece of plastic for an iPhone/iPod Touch look-alike. ;)

It could also be one of the hundreds of knock-offs sold in China.
