There is no way a new iPhone is coming early 2010.

1. People like me who bought the 3GS this summer would FREAK if a brand new model of the iPhone came out, complete with new hardware and/or software. Apple makes some bad moves sometimes, but I can't see them doing this to their customers.

2. The schedule for iPhone releases is still during summer. Each June/July = new iPhone, why change it now?

3. My guess is that they'll announce it along with the Tablet early 2010 for a release of summer 2010. Just makes more sense...

And I'm hoping this happens, because if a new iPhone comes out in a couple of months, I'll be livid :) ...and also be forced into shelling over another couple hundred bucks. Gotta love :apple:

well my contract it up in Jan on the 3g and the wife's is up in april , i think i'll wait till WWDC at least to see what's on offer.

As I said in my other post about this part from two days ago, this company, China Ontrade, has sent me supposed "OEM" parts that were FAKE! The iPhone 3G White back cover I bought from their site was a fake! An obvious fake! So, while they may have parts, I would suspect their fake parts are for fake iPhones.

At the same time, I believe they do have real parts that work with the iPhones, and I really believe that Apple could have its own new iPhone version for Verizon! This makes the most sense as to why Apple would have a new iPhone before June 2010. A January 2010 iPhone on Verizon makes a lot of sense with CDMA 4th Gen iPhone 3G.

Yes, because Apple should keep its customers happy instead of progressing alongside technology or addressing competitors. No one would be forcing you to upgrade except for yourself.

You're just providing another example of how annoyingly and falsely entitled Apple customers tend to act, especially since it's all without consideration of any other factors. Like the fact that corporations exist to profit, not to serve.

I tottaly agree. I just bought one thinking that a new one would not come out until June. If new one comes out I will be livid too. At least give me a few months of having something new. I am guessing that this is an early mockup or a tablet computer.

You know most tech companies update their products far faster than Apple. Nobody is guaranteed that the tech device they buy will not be upgraded within any certain amount of time. I think your argument is ridiculous. Apple doesn't guarantee that just because you bought a 3GS in July 2009 that they cannot upgrade in August 2009 or anytime after the first product was released.

THIS IS ALL THE WAY TECHNOLOGY IS... AND MOST TECHNOLOGY UPDATES FAR FASTER THAN APPLE... I WOULD WELCOME A NEW IPHONE TODAY AND I BOUGHT A 3GS IN JULY MYSELF! I WOULD WELCOME NEW APPLE UPDATES MONTHLY! IT WOULD BE AMAZING. BUYING TECHNOLOGY IS JUST THIS WAY... THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING NEW!

If Apple thought it was a wise business move to introduce a new phone early next year, they'd do it. They aren't worried about pissing off a few iPhone owners. I still think the next iPhone will be introduced in June or July 2010....

Made in US....

Price obviously...

I would happily pay a little more for an iPhone made in the US... not only to help to US economy but to decrease the effect shipping from China has on the environment. I would pay EVEN MORE for an iPhone on a network other than AT&T!

My upgrade just came thru this week. I dunno if i can wait till June tho. I hope a iphone refresh happens soon because I want a 32 white iphone badly...

lol..

A "4G" will replace my trusty 3G next year. Upgrading every other cycle is the best way imo, there's no issues with contract and the year to year progression isn't enough of a leap to bother every year beyond thrill of the new.

64gb+, higher res OLED please!

Dual core also :)

looking forward to the "4G" iPhone! -

erm.. looks exactly the same as the 3g/3gs model? sorry to burst a bubble lol.. i saw this before the 3gs came out... now this is something to dream about  :D

Why does the article assume that the 4G iPhone will be out mid 2010?

Really guys, Apple needs more than one iPhone and it is about time they get cracking. This device could easily come out in early 2010, maybe even January.

If it is the first model out the gate with a PA Semi chip that has been custom tailored for iPhone use the new hand set could be very impressive. More so if it has at least dual cores and is capable of supporting the tablet OS. That OS ought to be able to handle Flash on the second processor and remove the one issue that is vexing on the iPhone.

It hurts to say this but I'm resisting upgrading to the 3GS simply because I have this feeling that the PA derived hardware is not far away. Frankly the 3G is sluggish but I'm convinced that holding off is the right thing to do. I'd love to see longer battery life and more RAM, maybe even 512Meg.

Where do you think all of Apples profits are coming from?

So basically, nothing to see or get excited about.

I am still curious how a 8GB iPhone 3GS cost approx $600.- CAD while an iPod Touch 8GB cost $198.- CAD.

Does the phone portion cost $400.- CAD more? Ridiculous.:rolleyes::p

Well there are fees associated with playing in the 3G ball park. A few extra chips too. In the end though it is mostly profit for Apple. Some estimates indicate greater than 60% margins.

This is one of the reasons why I think the tablet could easily come in at less than $600 for a base model. That is a non 3G WiFi enabled tablet. Right now the iPhone generates huge profits for Apple, a tablet will not be able to do that for them as there is solid competition from the net book crowd at the high end and the Touches at the low end.

I am 100% with you. No disrespect to other countries or workers. I feel like Apple would probably gain respect and sell at double the rate if it made a US Only Factory for products that are sold in US. It could keep other factories for the rest of the world's purchases.

I feel like we need to keep jobs here for products consumed in America. If we did that, our economy wouldn't be experiencing the massive depression. Yes, I called it a depression. And I don't believe the Democrats saying the minor recession is over... what a joke. I guess if everyone believed it that it could work... but!

I went through a phase of trying to buy everything possible made in the USA, but I couldn't buy ANYTHING I wanted. It's sad. I am all for a worldwide economy... but I am not for shipping all of our product manufacturing to Asia to save money at the stakeholder level.

Would love a "Made in the USA" movement. We, the people, could force Apple and all manufacturers to move factories stateside for products consumed here...

I am 100% with you. I feel like Apple's whole "system" of updating products is pathetic. Look, we pay the exact same price at introduction as 11 months later for the same technology... it's a STUPID system that doesn't work. People are going to say, but Apple's profits are massive... BUT THEY COULD BE HIGHER. If Apple made more and more reasons for consumers, they would continually buy products instead of WAITING for the update. Look at iPhone 3G sales. They were huge then tapered off rapidly. The 3GS will be the same way. And the last three months almost nobody buys an iPhone realizing that a new one will be out soon.

Same thing with computers. There is NO INCENTIVE to buy a Mac that was introduced more than four months prior, and EVERYONE waits for the update. If Apple continued to lower the prices to reflect the lower costs of the OLD technology, then sales wouldn't fall of the cliff. STUPID SYSTEM that we all know should be improved. I am a shareholder, as well as a fan, and I want Apple to change course and make a better "system" for selling essentially outdated equipment. A lot of people would continually buy if there was a slowly decreasing price to reflect costs. Then price could bump with new introductions. Makes a lot of sense for sales throughout each model's life cycle.

I wouldn't mind that either, but most of the populace would. Made in the USA products generally have higher costs involved. And most people aren't willing to pay more most of the time.

could it be the 4th time they actually change the design of? NAH and I doubt they would make it large because no one would wanna carry a phone around the size of a book... maybe i'm wrong but i really hope I'm not

It will be interesting to see the number of iPhones sold in china and india, given they have the highest growth in wealth. They may not want to buy a phone made in the USA for the same reason.

According to Apple, 59% of their facilities don't even comply with Chinese working condition laws and 36% of Apple's facilities pay below Chinese minimum wages. I don't think Apple opening sweatshops in the US will look very good.

It looks much better they keep them hidden away in China.
