Geez let people be. So what if he has an anger problem? All this is so stupid.. everyone sits down and grabs their seat.. and start passing judgements "OMGGGGG HE SUCKS" .. "OMGGGGG HE BLEW UP"

Don't tell me none of you have ever thrown a tantrum or got incredibly frustrated at some point. Never realized there were so many peaceful and spotless people here!

No, I've never thrown a tantrum (as an adult, anyway :p). I have got incredibly frustrated, because I've done a fair number of stressful jobs with long hours, but I've never shouted at a workmate, snapped at a workmate, insulted a workmate or sworn in anger at a workmate during any of those frustrations.

Do people really find it that hard not to snap or shout at their co-workers?

This is the internet. Here we're all rich, beautiful and perfect. :D

I also think it was an example of unprofessionalism and bullying.

I believe that If this gentleman had a proper job that he would have been seen off the premises after this.

I don't understand why people support poor behaviour from people like him just because of the type of job they have.

I think he was lucky not to get a punch in his smart mouth. Jackass. No matter how annoying and unprofessional that light tweaker was that was just way over the top. Throwing a little fit for a brief moment, maybe a few F bombs, OK, but that was a full-blown hissy-fit and that's just not on.

It only played the first minute for me, was it like this for the full 3 minutes?

This is the 2nd "anger" incident with him right? I never heard much about him being diva-like (whatever the male equivalent of that is), or to be an @$$ all the time.

This reminds me of watching the outtakes for the latest X-Files movie, not the anger, but how Gillian Anderson was dropping the F-bomb like every single scene.

He is just a human like the rest of us who happens to have anger issues that need to be dealt with. Many people do. We don't know the situation on the set, though. He could have been in the middle of an intense scene and that emotion and energy carried over when he got mad at the DP and made it even worse. As others have said I think he went on a little too long but we just don't have enough information about what was going on to fully understand the situation. But after hearing about his assault on his mother and sister last year and now this it seems that he does need to deal with his issues before he goes psycho one day and starts killing people.

I think it's not so much the type of job they have, it's how good they are at it.

I've seen a lot of exceptions made for certain people's quirks if they are truly exceptional at their job. With almost every career.

Only the top tier actors are going to be able to do something like this on a set, and once you're well into movie production you may not have a choice since you cannot switch actors mid movie without incurring a considerable expense, the studio will also gloss over the incident since if the public decides not to like the actor then they won't see the movie (Tom Cruise anyone?).

The true test of this will come in seeing how many future roles Bale gets outside of the Batman franchise (if backlash is bad enough there he could even lose that).

I think the way Christian Bale went on at the DP was completely unprofessional and entirely inappropriate. Fair enough you can get angry, lose your temper etc, but all he has done is embarrass himself. He needs to learn to control that.

The reality is if anyone else did that in their job, they'd get fired. Mr Bale seems to think he can get away with it because of his 'status'.

I think Christian should make a formal apology.

I say boycott the movie!

No matter the amount of distraction, there is no excuse to talk to someone this way. People have families for heaven's sake. Parents and kids. Can you imagine how this makes them feel?

Nothing that is (or not) happening on this set is more important than that assistant's child looking up to his dad. Period.

So he's shouted at someone he's at work with. How many of us have not done that?

I love how everyone thinks they know how they would react in a situation they are entirely unfamiliar with. None of you know- that's the bottom line. But if it makes you feel good, by all means, have at it.

Lee, you have constantly claimed this. You are effectively saying that this behavior is acceptable because he is an actor?

I get what you're saying but it is not an excuse.

We all at one point in our lives have to deeply concentrate on something. I myself am studying towards a maths degree. When someone comes into a library and is noisy and makes me lose my concentration, I don't act like an idiot.

So it really is OK for an actor to play the Prima Donna and stamp his foot and hold his breath until… until… he goes blue in the face?
Childish.
Do actors have some special dispensation?

So we shouldn't ever lay anyone off because they do a crappy job since their families need to be able to look up to them?

Bale's tirade was excessive, but after being repeatedly warned not to do what he was doing the object of the tirade did it again in the middle of an emotional scene.

Think of the tirades you might go on when the same car weaving in and out of traffic cuts you off for the umpteenth time on the commute home that's taking twice as long as it should because some idiot's weaving caused an accident up ahead?

Sure most other jobs would have walked him out almost immediately, but when you're halfway through a multimillion dollar project and to re-cast would have a huge impact on time and budget. The studio is going to try to calm this down and if public backlash looks bad, there will be a (coerced) apology. Sure he wasn't fired from this job, but you don't fire the critical guy on an expensive project that's nearing completion especially if it means incurring significant delays and expense.

I'd expect Bale to lie low after this one, as either he tries to repair his image, or other projects avoid him due to negative perception or just not wanting to deal with the attitude.

That argument just doesn't work. The career is unimportant: We've all been in positions where we've been working a long day, emotions are running high and things are on the line. But when things go wrong it's far more professional to react with respect.

All he's done there is make the DP (and probably a lot of other people on set) think he's an arsehole, and he will likewise think the DP is an arsehole. If he'd been calmer we wouldn't be having this discussion.

No matter what the occasion, 5 minutes of bullying isn't necessary.

No- I didn't say it was acceptable. I said, unless you've been in the situation, don't be so quick to judge. I tried to illustrate that with a situation I was in. Was it right? Maybe not. But I certainly am not going to think I'm an a**hole for doing it. At the time, it's what happened. I lost it, and if you'd been there, I bet you would have too.

How do you guys know what the relationship is between these two guys? For all you know, they went out and had beers later. I know I did with the cameraman I called a retard (and it was a lot longer than 5 minutes that I went off that night). If you guys want to turn this into a big deal because it makes you feel superior, that's your business. But honestly, I don't think it is. You're making a mountain out of a molehill.
