Good choice. I am just waiting for the first non-caucasian actor to pick up on Jobs' heritage and to start complaining about Hollywood whitewashing.

"Bale reportedly will appear in every frame of the movie with speaking parts that exceed three movies combined."

What the hell does that mean?

Great Actor

I'm trusting Sorkin - one of the best screenwriters ever.. okay, mainly TV, but what TV!

I agree his screenwriting for television is unmatched (i.e. West Wing my favorite show of all time followed by a close second The Newsroom yet so are his movies. His movies are dialogue intensive. A Few Good Men and Moneyball are classics. Very excited about the movie!

How did this article equate to race?

What? Seriously? That sounds terrible.

How can a writer/producer/director allow an actor to impose such incredible limitations upon his work?

I guess this will be the only Sony movie without Sony product placement everywhere.

I'm looking forward to the movie.

Knowing Sony's films, there will probably a few snuck in... Besides, Jobs used to a great admirer of Sony's industrial design. Wouldn't be surprised if they manage to put in a few walkmans.

Jobs: Half-Syrian. Bale: Not.

Just wait, someone will realize it and start complaining. I personally don't care, but some people will. Just look at the complaints when Khan in "Star Trek: Into Darkness" was played by a caucasian.

Bale will do whatever is necessary to morph himself into Steve Jobs.

Before anyone says "do we really need another Steve Jobs film" the answer is we don't need one but it will be nice to have a good one to erase that trash Ashton Kutcher did.

Boyle behind the camera and Sorkin writing is the treatment a Jobs film deserves.

Bale is a method actor. He would literally lose 50 pounds to play Steve Jobs-- even though the movie apparently won't feature the "skinny" jobs since it stops at the iPod.

I'm all for equal rights and all that it entails, but I HIGHLY doubt people will make a fuss about this. The most important part in casting an actor to play someone who is real, is that they can look/act like them, not that they have the same heritage as them. I think everyone recognizes that.

Sorkin is very painful to listen to and I thought Elon Musk was bad in interviews....

Is this script going to leak onto the net?

They couldn't have picked a better actor for the part though.

I must say I'm apprehensive. The idea of 3x 30-minute scenes, all taking place before a product launch just sounds... well... boring.

But, Bale, Sorkin, Boyle - all awesome with amazing track records. I can't imagine them allowing it to be rubbish. So here's hoping it's good!

For the record, I quite liked the Kutcher movie.

I take it to mean that this film will be solid Bale. No scene without him in it as the main focus of the scene, and as a result, he'll have more dialogue than even stars in other movies have because he won't be sharing screen time with other actors or plot lines.

It kind of sounds interesting from the point of view that it'll show just how involved Jobs was, in every last facet of the company, and how he was understood as the very heart of Apple. Nothing happened without Jobs's say so or input. He *was* Apple... or so the overarching belief was among people.

OTOH, with that much focus, I'm worried it'll come off as more of a stand-up comedy routine or keynote or speech. I don't know how Sorkin will build an actual *plot* if the focus is so narrow. It'll be an interesting thing to see, even if only from a film making/screenwriting perspective. We all know there's no issue with the acting abilities. This is about if Sorkin can pull off a compelling story with a really tight focus seldom seen in movies.

Christian Bale looks nothing like Steve Jobs ..... fail !

Now bring back Fincher to direct. I mean I love Danny Boyle but something about him on this project just doesn't feel right.

First off the pics you posted actually have some similarities. Secondly you're talking about Christian Bale. One of the most chameleon like actors in the world. He'll be ok. I was reminded of the following exchange from Entourage after reading your post:

E: Tom Cruise is going to play Pablo Escobar? C’mon, the guy’s not even Hispanic.
Ari: Yeah, and Hilary Swank has a vagina, but she won an Oscar pretending she has a ****. That’s what actors do. They pretend.

But Steve Jobs was biologically half Syrian, so steve has some Middle Eastern ancestry.

Yeah. They got an actor that looks like steve jobs' twin (ashton kutcher) and look how that turned out. If an actor is good enough at acting, you get so immersed in the movie that you forget about the old steve jobs completely

I don't think everyday people on the internet are a good judge of what actor can play what. Especially when we are talking about some of the best actors in the business. I was absolutely sure Heath Ledger was a terrible choice for joker and then he turned out one of the best performances I've ever seen. I was also dubious years ago about Will Smith trying to act in serious movies. Then came great performances in I am Legend and Pursuit of Happiness.

So, i'm withholding judgement on anything until the movie comes. If they said they were casting Melissa Mcarthy as Steve Jobs, i might be worried. But Christian Bale? I'm ok with that

I wonder if they'll show any of Jobs famous temper tantrums. If so, can you imagine the video mashups of a little of that plus some clips from American Psycho?

I made a rough draft of Christian Bale as Moses back when it was first announced he would play that role. Maybe I should do one for him as Jobs.

I tend to agree with that. How can you show the involvement of the man in the last moments before product unveilings? Worse, they will make him look like an irate, impatient character, bossing people around and taking credit for seemingly other people's work. How does that make for an accurate depiction of reality?

Wait a minute, so now Batman is playing a billionaire philantropist, head of a major technology company, who wasn't raised by his birth parents?

Everything's backwards!
