i use both pending my mood lol i prefer safari only because i can sync it to my iphone and keep my bookmarks in my pocket and have had no issues with it.

but i have both installed and theya re both great no noticeable speed difference for me. i like chrome's ability to sync bookmarks to the cloud so if i get a new comp just log in and bam my browser is configured to my liking. but safari is great to i cant decide haha :D

see im one of the weird people i am a google/apple fanboy lol i love apple products and google services/android lol

one thing i never noticed that i liked about safari is the extra screen real estate you get for your actual browser window. firefox takes up the most, and chrome's menu bar isn't as small as safari's.

this is important on a 13 inch Macbook pro. probably not a big deal to those with larger screens though.

the fact that to look something up in google you can just press CMD+T and start typing, or even youtube (type youtube.com then press tab) searches all integrated have won me over.

Indeed, that omnibar has won me over.

CMD+T, type stuff you wanna google, enter. voila!
(the new Firefox seems to have this function too)

and tbh, I didn't even know the youtube search feature, thanks!

EDIT: when I right click in Chrome, the menu pops up after delay of 1 second recently. anyone?

When using Chrome (compared to Safari), my MBP runs between 3-8 degrees Celsius warmer.

Anyone else experience this as well? Why is this the case, and is there any way to combat the issue?

My wife has the same problem! No extensions, running an SSD, on a late 2008 Macbook and Safari beachballs regularly. It isn't the FASTEST computer these days but it is still pretty zippy until Safari comes to a screeching halt. Perhaps I'll have her try Chrome.

You should definitely get her on Chrome. I've been using it because of it being so lightweight on my netbook; however I now have an 08 BlackBook (upgraded) and after trying Chrome, Safari, and Firefox 4, Chrome is by far the fastest, most stable, and I love the minimalistic look and extensions (google voice, tab counter, email page, and gmail unread notif).

safari is decent but i just downloaded chrome 11 and it is fast. it is in some cases 2x faster than safari and it is also very clean looking. they also trimmed it down almost half the size. safari was my heavy lifting browser but chrome looks good now. earned a space in my dock. firefox 4 looks good too. apple needs to overhaul safari with safari 6 or else they are going lose people. it gets so many beachballs and its not the fastest anymore.

I like Chrome, but as I often use my MBP on battery power, I've noticed I get much less battery life (~1 hour less) using Chrome over Safari (with or without Flash). Same goes for Firefox (which I don't consider up there with Chrome and Safari).

Safari = 64bit capable for some machines
Chrome = 32bit

I use Chrome even though it is not 64-bit because it ais always being updated.

Yea? I'll take a look into that; when I compared browsers I mostly reference the speed as that's what's important to me; haven't come across any computability problem with any of them because I'm not doing anything particularly complex when using them.

Aside from battery life, I do find Chrome superior. In many, many ways.

I visit some Gawker sites like Kotaku and Gizmodo. Since they've revamped their layout, Safari constantly gets the spinning beachball when loading their sites. Just clicking on a news story will delay even switching over to a new tab while I wait for the page to load. It's not a huge delay, but the overall effect is maddening. I tried Chrome and it's much much faster. I hope there's an update soon to fix this.

I can't stand these sites new designs... to the extent that I've stopped visiting them!

Not having that issue.

I just turned off Adblock on Safari, and yup, no spinning beachball. I like my Adblock though! At least I know what's causing it.

Do you have the AdBlock extension installed? That's been known to cause problems with complex sites (i.e., TechCrunch, which sucks anyways).

Yes and it likes to remind me it's installed from time to time.

What adblocks to you recommend?

Safari = Memory Hog

Chrome = CPU Hog

I'm not sure what's more annoying. I really like Chrome due to being more light-weight, quick and leaving more RAM for my other processes. But i hear the fans spinning way too often on Chrome unfortunately and it can get quite annoying. But one feature that really does it for me in Chrome is when a site or plug-in crashes it doesn't crash your entire Chrome but only the particular tab. In Safari if you are on other sites or downloads you can't use it at all and have to force-quit everything.

And Safari just makes my system often very laggy when i do other stuff (and I already have 8GB of Ram!).

Hopefully that will change in future so i can go back to Safari.

Assuming you're not using the AdBlock extension in Safari, Chrome uses significantly more RAM. Bust out your calculator and add up all the Chrome processes when you don't have a single window open. On my 4 GB RAM MacBook Pro, it totaled somewhere around 450 MB. Safari, in 64 bits (while Chrome is 32), uses around 300 after a good browsing session.

The high usage of RAM is what makes Chrome so fast; RAM is there to be used, having your ram used up doesn't slow the computer down or anything, however I can understand the problem if you only have 2 gigs or something and you're constantly trying to open programs and you just don't have the RAM for it.

Somehow Im addicted to top sites on safari. For me is just perfect when I want to keep on checking my top 10 webpages.

But when I'm just random surfing the web, I like Chrome better, since the 3 finger swipe feature to show tabs is awesome, and much more practical than anything any other browser has to offer. The downside however, is that Chrome on mac feels like a turtle compared to windows version. Nonetheless the thing than bothers me the most about Chrome, is that it has more the feeling of a virtual machine, than a browser.

What do you mean a "virtual machine" rater than a browser? Oh and if you didn't know, Chrome OS, the OS that you can download for free and run (and comes with the CR48) is a Chrome browser and that's it. Like the entire OS is the chrome browser itself. I guess that could attribute to the feelings you're having :)

First of all, I've never used chrome, nor plan to. I know, why live such dull life? Safari has every thing that I expect my browser to do. I sometimes switch to FireFox, but that's when a site doesn't work in Safari.

What is this beach balls every one is going on about? What are you doing to get them? I really want to know what you are doing in browser wise. So I can duplicate it, to see if I get the beach ball and memory hog.

I have never got a beach ball, nor has it been a memory hog. Also Safari starts right up with half a bounce. I've had one crash, and that was Flash. But it didn't take down the browser, I just got a window that 'Flash extension' had crashed and asked me if I wanted to report it. But the browser kept chugging a long.

Just for s++++ and giggles can some one post a screen shot of what Chrome looks like.

EDIT: I'm a 13 MacBook Core 2 DUO with 4gig of ram and 500gig hard drive. Just in case that matters. :/
