I read you'll need 4.1 blobs, at least for the time being anyway...

http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=13609
Wouldn't that be entirely pointless? 4.2b3 is supposed to be 'newer' so everyone who has 4.1 blobs would definitely also have 4.2b3. Therefore, this does not do anything except the fact that 4.2b3 won't be pirated... I guess the rest of us without 4.2b3 still need to wait for GP then.

Who knows. I guess it's more significant that you wouldn't need the 4.2b3 ipsw, which you have to either be a developer to get, or use an illegal copy. Anyone can get a legit 4.1 ipsw. Having the blobs is one thing, having legit access an ipsw is different...

Edit- just re-read your post properly and realised that's the point you already made... so sorry for repeating it!

If it was as useless and 'horrible' as you say, why didn't you return it and get your money back? That's what any logical trend-setting 'power user' would have done! Sounds like you're more of a trend follower than a trend setter!
I can only agree Declanio. I see no sense in persisting with an iPhone if you hate it so much. I'm sure highlander only hs the iphone because he gets a buzz when he says he has one to his mates etc. Fashion over function.

I thought the iPhone was until the 4. It calls, texts, MMSs, video calls. What more does highlander want (or anyone who hates owning an iPhone want?). I used to be a person who loved applying and messing around with ROMs on my previous Android and Blackberry phones. I've stopped doing that now as it gets irritating and you gain instability in the product.

Honestly, I only kept my iPhone 4 jail broken at 4.1 for only a few days. Saw the same traits come back and got irritated adding a few tweaks.

I might try it again once 4.2.1 JB becomes stable. There are a few things the iPhone annoys me about, but I can live with it.

The hacking scene is always quickly moving. As the demand for jail breaking is always there and the normal players get fed up, new hackers always come along.

I disagree with much of what you say...
As do 99.9% of the MR members.

...but you have a point there.
'Headed in the wrong direction" sounds very deep and thoughtful when in fact it's devoid of meaning. Apple has been fighting this for years and has lost at every turn. To think they are going to suddenly win a major victory is simply delusional, whose only purpose is to be argumentative, which is troll behavior.

Yes, people install many Cydia applications, but how many of these apps are so critical that the person would switch platforms and phones if jailbreak disappeared? If jb disappeared and you couldn't install Barrel, would you switch platforms and phones?

It's too bad the whiners dominate this forum. The vast majority of people who have jailbroken phones are peacefully and patiently waiting for the next jb. It's the minority of people who 'lost' their jailbreak/unlock due to a hardware problem that resulted in them receiving a new phone running the current firmware or they 'accidentally' upgraded their firmware who are complaining.

For some reason my old 3GS and a few other people I know have 4.1 blobs, 4.2.1 but not 4.2beta shsh's.
Weird how cydia skipped getting them for some people but did for others. Maybe wasnt enough time to grab them for all on the list.

If I had 4.1 blobs I would just downgrade to 4.1 and jailbreak with Limera1n, in my opinion that Redsn0w untether is useless.

I want what I have.... and what apple doesn't let me have. I am not asking for more than what it's possible RIGHT NOW! With a Jailbreak of course.

I just bought my iPhone 4 (4.2.1) which is jailbroken with redsnow tethered. From what I understand, if I want to use the untethered jailbreak when it's officially released, I would need iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs saved in cydia. Correct?

Does that mean I won't be able to get an untethered jailbreak since I only just bought the phone with only 4.2.1 SHSH saved?

edit:guess I have to wait for GP

You can always restore to current official firmware and then jailbreak if there's a tool for that. As you can downgrade after a restore. (if you have shshs saved)

He was asking about his 4.2.1 that had 4.2.1 when he bought it. And the answer is no, you can't use the untethered or go back to 4.1. I'm in the same boat as you, tethered right now, and since no SHSH saved but 4.2.1 right now, we both have to wait till a JB for 4.2.1 or higher comes out.

I had my old iPhone 4 with 4.0, 4.1, 4.2b3 saved, but had to swap it because the home button stopped working all together :-( Oh well, tethered really isn't that bad, I've been on it for 3 weeks and only rebooted once at my choice. :)

I am in the same boat too, I thought the user had 4.1 blob. I will wait some more weeks, if all these groups don't release anything, I gonna use the tethered jailbreak for 4.2.1.
How is the tethered jb going on your iphone 4, 4.2.1. Any bugs, battery problems and such?

Honestly when I found out the device they were replacing my 4.1 with was on 4.2.1 it made me sick to my stomach. However, being reliant on the MiWi and a couple other programs, I took the leap and did it.

I think the experience is great. I didn't realize just how infrequently I needed to reboot my device. Their build is completely stable, have not had any issues thus far. Battery life is great, and it sure is nice having the 4.2.1 features available. It's easy to do a reboot when necessary (i just keep redsnow on my home and laptop) just in case, but in the 3 weeks I've been on it I've only had to reboot once.

I don't feel like I'm missing anything. I know it's daunting thinking about a tethered jailbreak, but it's entirely functional and it's the only option as of TODAY.

Correct. Not rebooting is not an issue but my problem is its unstable, for example if I get a phone call and a text or 2 texts simultaneously my springboard always crashes. Constant springboard crashes due to notifications piss me off.

Yeah that'd bug me. I haven't had that issue, not even once since installing it. I will say I have only used BiteSMS, so it's not using the standard messaging client, that may have something to do with it, but unsure. I haven't seen widespread issues like yours, so may be something you have running is conflicting?

I am trying to solve it, cydia crashes a lot too specially if I try to delete packages before it updates the database.
