Starcraft II is still out there?
I don't have a Steam account yet (most of my gaming is on the PS4) but if Starcraft is there, I need to go sign up.
They just released the last expansion about six months ago. But it's not available on Steam. As per the old games, Battle.net is your home for Blizzard games, including digital purchases if that's what you're after.

Though in my case, I bought Starcraft II on sale from Best Buy for cheap, and it then links to your Battle.net account when you sign in so you can download it on other machines later.

I have the same issue - it sucks because I was really hoping to get back into this after missing out on the last couple of versions (fave was Civ 2; played it way too much but still sucked at it...)

Yup. In fact they still release updated storylines and various online options. The original, 2010 release was part 1 of 3.

I've already got this and been enjoying it on PC, was quite surprised to see the Mac version out already. I decided to try and run it on my 12" MB...
I am pretty impressed, on low graphics (which don't look all that different to the highest settings) I'm getting 22-35fps. Perfectly acceptable for a game like that.

now to wait for pirate people to do their thing. #studentlife

That's pathetic. This isn't some mammoth dev studio that shovels the same crap every year. It's a good developer who really support their games. Also on Steam they give you both the PC and Mac versions for the price of one. I personally got my key from a reseller (not shady like G2A) for something like £28 which is nothing.

Pirate Call of Duty or FIFA to your hearts content, but Firaxis deserve to be paid.

Is your MB the "1.1GHz dual-core Intel Core m3 processor "? If that can handle it I feel like the 1.7 ghz i7 air should...

Plus I believe this has

Aspyr are awesome. And their customer service is great with them visiting multiple forums and even answering questions there for people. They come to macrumors all the time to help people with their question on their games. Something many companies would never do.

They put a lot of work to get the game in near launch which rarely happens with most mac ports.

If anything just buy it on sale. It is steam game so no matter who has the game on sale it will give you both PC and Mac copy in steam. Bet you will easily find it on sale by Christmas time.

Plus you won't have to worry about if the pirate version was injected with malware into its version.

Thanks you guys! We do what we can!

Would love to have this on GOG. Mac App Store? Meh. Steam? Even more meh.

I have the same question regarding the base level MBP 2014 (2.6 GHz i5, Iris 1536 MB). Has anybody tried the game on such a machine yet?

This is my question as well, I have a base level 2014 rMBP. From what I understand, the Iris 1536 isn't "Iris Pro" which is likely a bigger hurdle than the .1Ghz difference on the minimum specs.

A lot of justified hate on pirating, but honestly I may pirate in order to demo before buying considering the min specs are sooooo high. If my 2014 rMBP is going to get 20FPS, then I don't want it. Better to test it before buying.

Is it at the beginning of the game? or at the end? what kind of map size are you talking about?

Just clicked the play now and about 15 minutes in I was getting around 25fps.

Yup the m3 model, haven't played any long games on it yet though.

PSA for those thinking of buying this: I rolled the dice and got it.

Mac Model: MacBook Air late 2014, 1.7ghz i7, 8gb ram.

I have only run a few turns on it, with low settings. Everything seems to work fine. I can't say what it will look like later in the game yet, but it at least loads fine and doesn't seem to have any glaring problems.

quick question what would you say is better? a steam version or a mac store version? any pros and cons to each?

I have the same MBA, can you update after you've played the game longer?

Looking at your signature, you really look like you can't afford a game.... Cute excuse but you're just a cheap bastard
...or maybe he spent all his money on Apple gadgets, and has nothing left for games. :p Why does everyone assume that where there's money, there must be more money?

It's like spending $10k on a suite, $5k on watch then complaining you can't afford $30 shoes.

They'll be the same, Aspyr make the port and the same version releases on both the App Store and Steam. Personally I prefer the Steam version as you get both the Windows and Mac version for the price of one.

I will say that it's frustrating to see the minimum requirements being so high that even with the latest MacBook Pros being released today, on the very top end 15" MacBook Pro meets them.
