Sid Meier's Civilization VII Apple Arcade Edition features the Civilization VII base game experience, with mouse support, controller support, and intuitive touch controls available. Players take on the role of one of many legendary leaders from history, aiming to build the greatest empire the world has ever known.

Gamers will construct cities and control armies to expand their territory, conquering or cooperating with rival civilizations for the resources to evolve and discover new technological breakthroughs. Multiplayer gameplay is not supported at launch, and DLC add-ons are not available. Large map sizes are limited to devices that have at least 8GB RAM.

Along with Civilization VII, Apple Arcade is also gaining musical rhythm adventure Felicity's Door, puzzle game I Love Hue Too+, and classic video arcade title Retrocade. Retrocade is available on the Vision Pro as well as the iPhone and iPad.

Apple Arcade is Apple's subscription gaming service, priced at $6.99 per month. The service allows up to six family members to share a single subscription, and games feature no in-app fees or ads.

I’ve never played any of these, but it looks very cool. For those familiar with the game play dynamics, if I was to run it on my Mac, but mirrored over to my 75” TV (using Apple TV) would the latency be a problem? Looks more like a strategy thing than a “quick reflexes” thing, unless I’m wrong about that.

Age of Empires would have been way cooler
If they pull that off (or maybe AoEII), they'd definitely get more subscribers—It's one of the reasons (clearly not worth it by itself of course) I have a Parallels subscription. Maybe they should sue Microsoft in an EU court and claim they aren't being allowed to compete by not being allowed to sell Age of Empires II in their App Store.

I have never played any of these games either. Since I have Arcade as part of my Apple One subscription I will probably give it a try. Hopefully it won’t be too difficult to get into for someone who’s never played one.

The problem with Apple Arcade, from my perspective, is that there are only a few games that might make it worth a subscription, and which I would happily purchase directly but can’t, because they’re only available via subscription. And the vast majority just aren’t worth subscribing for.

I literally just unsubscribed from Apple Arcade yesterday because I don’t use it enough to be worth it. The select titles I like are now available on other platforms, and so I just buy them there.

But hey, at least Tim gets to say line go up.

The real bang for buck happens when you have a family with family sharing. $6.99 for your kids to have hundreds of ad free and predatory games is a huge win

Surprised to see this game as a part of Arcade. This is a good addition. Want to try out 'I love hue too+' also

Is “predatory” the word you’re intending here? 🧐

Anyway, yes, agree. I didn’t subscribe to Arcade separately but get it as a part of Apple One (I’m using enough of the other components of it that Arcade is just a “freebie”) It is nice to be able to have a constant stream of casual games without ads or IAPs.

They really need to offer screentime settings for ONLY allowing Apple Arcade games. I have submitted the suggestions.

Most of the games kids stumble onto are absolute trash with ads that are even worse. A lot of them I don't know how they even get admitted to the app store.

I envy being able to selectively choose specific Apple subscriptions ... if you are part of a large family with insane iCloud photo storage needs, there really is no logical option aside from an Apple One subscription. Apple pretty much forced that by the way they priced the storage options.

I will happily acknowledge this is true and a strong selling-point in those circumstances.

Finally another actual game in Apple Arcade that’s not antiquated or designed for 5 year olds. Fingers crossed they add a few more soon... Gear.Club.Stradale and Solitaire+ were previously the only titles of interest to me.
