Looks real to me. Wonder if it'll have a matte bezel.

I smell knockoff. Several existing parts would have to change. The button isn't attached to the screen unit, the aperture for the earpiece is smaller... I don't see that big of an overhaul coming without other corroborating evidence, and in the past we have seen similar form factors on Chinese, etc. iPhone knockoffs.... so, I'm not yet convinced this is anything of interest.

kinda tired of the same old design for 3 generations but not much can be changed with a front like that i guess

What exactly do you wish to change about the minimalistic look of the front of the device?

Aluminum maybe? I dunno, they are the experts, but we have 3 generations of the same design and now an ipad. Just give me something new. I mean what exactly does Jonathan Ives do all day? Even Coke changed their can design...

I was thinking that that thing could possible be some sort of notification light similar to the sleeping indicator on MacBooks. Who knows?

Exactly what I thought, similar to the glowing trackballs on HTC Android devices. Would be useful to get notified of new texts/emails etc. without having to turn the iPhone one and unlocking it.

i would like it if they got rid of the chrome border, and just had the front glass and the back (aluminum), ala iPad.

Which would still result in the front looking exactly the same...

I don't think the poster I quoted realizes that the rest of the phone could still look radically different, though it wont.

My middle-aged eyes hope you are wrong. ;)

My middle-aged eyes could be wrong... but it looks like they didn't change the display at all... from the picture, it looks like the 'newer' phone just moved the display up closer to the top (more space in at the bottom).

why do we need fron facing camera, again?

Quite frankly, just because. I would probably never use it, but just because. In case. I want the iphone to be like the Turtle Com from TMNT. It would be much more useful on the iPad since the screen is bigger and you wont necessarily be moving around when using it, but I suppose I mostly want it just because it would mean that maybe it is coming to the iPad. So yeah, no real good reason.

Front facing camera would be good for self portraits which I also would not do much of. I guess I am not making a very convincing argument here.

I also dont want another hole on the front. I would prefer that embedded camera in the screen technology to come to fruition first.

Maybe aluminum could be reintroduced as long as it didn't affect the radio antennas.

However Ive has stated on the iphone that the everything resorts to the display of the device and design is removed from the equation.

When you interact with nothing but the screen, and rightfully so, why would u let any design get in the way of actually interacting with the device?

Other than a slighty redesigned back/material, there's not much u can do.

And IR is pointless.

Don't TV remotes use IR? Maybe Apple's gonna update its Remote app so it can be used as a universal remote. Kinda cool.

Maybe for video chatting? Plus, a lot of people I know like taking pictures of themselves with friends. It would be nice to see how well you're focusing. Who likes pictures of themselves half cut out of pictures?

What's so bad about the design? I like it. Plus, I'm not the kind of guy who likes change for the sake of change.

Hmm, what purpose could a reflective surface serve on the front?

A bit of uneducated Googling and guesswork points me toward a motion sensor. I know the iPhone already has a proximity sensor. I'm not sure what additional applications a visual motion sensor could provide.

I'm Ok with Apple making the new iPhone a little taller, as long as they're gonna make it a little thinner as well. I find the current iphone to be a bit chunky.

I have to admit though, I was hoping for a little more change in terms of Design. There are some mockups people did of what the iphone could look like out there that look absolutely fantastic. Maybe Apple should hire some of those guys.

I think apple's whole idea is to keep the same basic look because it is so iconic.

If this is real, what would be the purpose? The screen is the same size, so would Apple really make it bigger with the same size screen? What could possibly be going on inside of it to warrant making it bigger? A larger battery would make it thicker not taller. Another camera couldn't possibly take that much room, I don't think a new radio would either. I conclude that this is a fake, or that Apple has some major awesomeness in store for the iPhone.

I would like to think apple would move towards a higher resolution screen or a newer display tech (oled, amoled) but I highly doubt it with the 4th gen device. Not to mention thousands of apps that would need to be updated to take advantage of a higher rez display...

Again, size matters - for dock-owners and smallholders.

Just today, I was thinking about ordering an alarm clock/radio combo dock for my iPhone. I was wondering, what sort of adaptors I would need with an iPad. But I also thought that with so many devices that can only be used with a certain size of iPhones and iPods, Apple would risk losing a relatively big chunk of its primary customers. Imagine the fury of TomTom cradle owners, though - it's one thing to put a longer iPhone into a dock, but it's an impossible task with that navigation kit.

In my opinion, Apple should use the opportunity and put a decent battery in the device, even if it means to keep the current weight and dimensions.

Design should be driven by functionality, not by life span of the current design or boredom of the users.

Maybe it's just me, but I hate it when manufacturers change designs all the times just to convince customers to buy the newest shiny-shiny. Lately, Apple has been very good about sticking with tried and true designs for a very long time if they can't come up with anything better (G5 tower, etc); changes with the iMacs and MacBooks always seem to have been driven (at least in recent years) by finding better ways of doing things, not just driving sales. It's about refinement and usability driving sales, not flash.

The iPhone (and iPad) are devices where software is the true interface and design, not the hardware. It needs a big screen and one physical button, and that's about it. We've seen the back plate change for various functional reasons (reception, ease of holding the device, etc.), but that's about it.

I don't need the device's look changing. It is refined and near perfect what it needs to do. I would, however, like to see some added functionality on the hardware side - namely a front facing camera for video chat.
