These are the kind of pictures we look back on and say, "Oh crap, we really were looking at the 4th generation iPhone the whole time and we said they were fake." Lol.

I'm also hoping that isn't from the next iPhone. The design is really looking its age at this stage. It doesn't have to be anything too radical - just like the iMac changes - just increase the screen size in relation to the rest of the device, cut down on the ugly black borders on the top and bottom and please add an led for notifications.

edit: Kinda like how -despite not being too radical an overall change - the new iMacs make the G5 iMacs look really old.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that these pics are real. Hopefully the hole will be for a camera and status light (hence the oblong opening) Unless some knockoff manufacturer is using the same motherboard design as apple, this looks like the next iPhone. (although I was hoping for a little less black bezel)

Definitely a new screen resolution

Dunno if someone has mentioned this before, but the iPhone will change its resolution to the now common in other phones - 480x800.

That would explain the slight increase in size and, I'm guessing here, but the screen will be a tiny bit bigger as well.

No indication of either of those. And IR is pointless.

Not necessarily - if Apple wants to continue it's push as a media center solution then IR adds compatibility with many other devices. Think Logitech Harmony on an iPhone or Touch.

I usually don't call fake and ignore these things, but this looks way too cheap and just in general looks fake. Anyone else agree? I mean seriously, Apple won't make a longer iphone. It's big enough already.

Yes I am highly suspicious and make a mental note that iResq is probably a bad company to do business with...

For those that want a design change, why?

The iPhone has a very nice form factor IMO and anything too radical could make it lose some of its identity. Look at the iMac G5 style iMac and how well the same basic design has stood the test of time.

A higher resolution screen is a certainty isn't it?

True. Also, a two-way reflective window would allow a front facing 'iChat' camera to show you what it sees and may
be part of a mirror system that enables the same camera to switch between front and back.

Notice that the screen is the same size but that the end areas are larger (for the extra optics) and symmetric at each end.
You see, there's a strong competition going on with Android and iPhone needs impressive new stuff to stay in front.

Maybe aluminum could be reintroduced as long as it didn't affect the radio antennas.

However Ive has stated on the iphone that the everything resorts to the display of the device and design is removed from the equation.

When you interact with nothing but the screen, and rightfully so, why would u let any design get in the way of actually interacting with the device?

Other than a slighty redesigned back/material, there's not much u can do.

I agree mostly, but am sure that they could come up with something to freshen things up a bit. I would also like to see a rubberized back to aid in reduceddamage/scratching, but am probably alone in that. I also think a rubber back would work great fo rthe iPad since you actually could conceivably lie that on a table and type. Rubber would prevent it from sliding around.

Mostly what the iPhone needs is a new radical software update though. Hopefully that is what 4.0 will bring.

As i said, place a G5 next to the new iMac and your instantly struck by how outdated and unrefined the earlier model is - despite it being awesome when it was released. For those that don't own one, just google the G5 and you'll be surprised by how ungainly it now looks. Subtle changes like the chin etc. have really enhanced the design. Same for the iPhone.

Looks like the actual dimensions are the same as the current iPhone - just that there will be no silver bezel.

Instead, it'll form a Unibody like construction.

Reflective surface is Anti-Glare for camera

If you've ever shot video in a room that has multiple windows, there are reflective surfaces that you can put on the outside of the window that reduce the light that comes into the room, therefore, making it possible to shoot film of someone standing in frotn of a window without turning them into a silhouette. I'm guessing, if this part is real (BIG if) then the reflective surface is covering a camera so that if you are holding the camera with your sun to your back, you wont lose your face in the image. Just a thought. Probably wrong.

this makes sense for a larger front. lose the bezel, plop it in a unibody like enclosure

Whatever the changes are, it better be compatible with my 3 Apple iPhone 3G/3GS docks. I'm not gonna pay lots of $$$ for pieces of white plastic again.

really hope they make it have a removable battery :\ Never thought id care about it until my battery died on a trip and I didnt have anywhere to plug it in for a few hours...

Yeah, that'd totally make sense given the current line-up of mobile products

Buy an external battery (ZAGGsparq, Just Mobile Gum Plus, even the smallest HyperMac if you want tons of juice, etc)

I think apple's whole idea is to keep the same basic look because it is so iconic.

I'm inclined to agree, but then I think about how many changes the iPod has gone through (the smaller ones, anyway).

Ultimately, I'm not sure there's a way to make the iphone that much different without changing the ease of interaction with the device -- I mean, the front of the thing is a touch screen, a button, a speaker (and the 'hidden' proximity sensor). Everything else is on the side, top and bottom for connectivity.
