That's actually what I thought when the iPad 3 was released.

EDIT: Seems like that was just a prototype. Looks a bit better in the final version:

Just a prototype eh? Sounds like a similar theme...

I think the thickness of the device and the zoom lens of the camera make the holes seem larger than they actually are though.

I HOPE that the next iPhone does not look like this. So tall :( Maybe this is a prototype just like the matte black iPhone 3G

if that was something from google or Samsung people would be saying it looks like CRAP, for apple to use the same boring boxy unergonomic no contours look and people are saying hey I like it...only apple, if they do release this it will be the biggest LET DOWN in thir design history (I don't count a crap anntena as a design problem I count it as an engineering one).

Ansolutely NO IMAGINATiON.

The headphone jack on the bottom makes the most sense from a usability standpoint.

When I listen to music and use my iPhone 4 at the same time, the cord gets in the way of the screen sometimes because of the fact that the headphone jack is at the top. Put the headphone jack on the bottom, and this is no longer an issue.

What if you have it in your pocket?

For everyone saying its two toned, its not. The glass is semi-transparent with a light shade of black/white. The top and bottom are solid as that's where the boards are gonna be. Once its assembled its most likely 1 toned.

What if you have it in your pocket?

Place it top down like most normal people already do?

Humour me and do this:

Hold your phone in front of you like you do when using it, now lower that arm holding the phone until it's resting beside your body. Which way is the phone facing? Top down and screen inward, the most natural way to pocket your phone (unless you like spinning it all the time).

The headphone jack at the bottom makes sense. That's why the iPod touch does it. The iPhone didn't because there was no room on the bottom, but that changes with a smaller dock.

I understand how it is annoying for the headphone wire dangling in front but I never put my phone in my pocket upside down. The motion isn't natural for me.

To each their own I guess. I bet if you tried it for a day, it would start to feel natural. I like being able to withdraw my phone and use it immediately. The headphone port on the bottom would be perfect for me.

Either way, if you've ever plugged in the dock connector wire and a headphone wire at the same time, you'd know how annoying having wires on both sides of the phone is (which is my current car setup). It's worth changing just for that reason in my opinion.

Two-tone, dual antennae, style consistency

There has been a lot of discussion here about style consistency and people not liking the two tone look. Just look at the LTE iPad 3. It has the antenna area at the top back of the iPad 3 and it has the black "plastic". Supposedly they cannot get a signal through the aluminum, otherwise the iPad 3 would be all aluminum.

I believe the current iPhone has a dual antenna. Maybe they have a dual antenna on the iPhone 5 and they are using the exact same materials as in the iPad 3 (New iPad to Apple). Then it would seem this design is very consistent with the iPad 3. What would be nice is if they could get the material over the antenna to have the exact same color as the aluminum. The black has a lot of contrast with the aluminum color, white is a fairly close match, but light grey like the aluminum would make it appear to be unibody.

To all the people saying Steve must be spinning in his grave, let's put him to good use, let's attach him to a drive belt and a generator and use him to make some nice eco friendly power.

Is it for certain that it has only increased in height? I thought it was wider too.

If Apple did increase the iPhone's size to 4 inches proportionately then what increase of width would we see? It would be very slight wouldn't it?

Fine with me, but...

If that's the rear shell then i'm O.K with that. But if the front will be a display that is edge to edge (left to right) then I have concerns that a wrap around case would cover part of the display viewing area on either side vertically. Unless the display will have a "black" border which essentially would be the same as the current iPhone's integrated frame/border around the display (left to right) but maybe just a little bit less in width. Go figure?

Apple cannot ignore this... there will most likely be an announcement at WWDC now. I mean if Mountain Lion is in beta, Map app leaked, and iPhone 5 is leaked what could they have in store for WWDC? Going to have to be a pretty big showing of iOS 6. lol

Actually yes they can. Just like they did last year when this kind of thing started up. They talked about Siri etc because the software would have exposed that but nothing about the design and such

I think the two-tone colour scheme on the rear panel looks really nice, especially in white.

Looks like I'll finally be upgrading the 3G no matter what.

:apple:

Ugly

Ive WTF r u thinking. THis better not be the iPhone 5. Practically same block format!!? Come on, Samsung Galaxy S is beautiful with the tapered edges. Also the HTC One X. As much as I am a fanboy I just might make the switch to a Galaxy.

If this design is released, I'll call it the shark that the rest of Apple products will be jumping over. This is just awful looking. Where to begin?

- The two-tone rear looks like it didn't survive a dispute in committee (and Apple is known for not forming committees)

- The smaller dock connector looks to serve no purpose whatsoever, unless Apple is planning to introduce Thunderbolt I/O on the iPhone (there have been no rumors of this, and I highly doubt that will happen)

- Finally, the screen! Not only does the size not look conducive to App development or support, it just looks downright mis-proportioned and oblong.

Me: "Siri, is this just some big April Fools Day joke?"

Siri: "April Fools Day has already passed 59 days ago. Shall I re-schedule for April Fools Day, 2013?"

Me: "...never-mind."

How people stated the same thing last year once part leaks made it clear that the 4S was what we were getting......
It may be true that others said this back in the day, however I have loved the form factor of the 4/4S and I still upgraded. But after almost 2 years of the same looking phone (form factor-wise), it's getting old, as would happen with any other phone. However, just looking at the back of this, the new (for the iPhone) placement of the headphone jack, new aspect ratio and the small pin connector, I'm not sure it meets what I want.

It's too bad the 4S doesn't have 4G LTE. This looks like something Dell would produce. The two-tone back, primitive looking speaker grill and taller aspect ratio? Nasty. Not as nasty as that pinky nail but nasty.

I totally agree. 4G doesn't help me much since I'm in Australia, but the back, speaker grill and aspect ratio aren't great.

Hopefully your last post too

I'm sorry, I didn't realise I was using a forum where I can voice my opinion. I tend to forget about the loyalty of fans out there who seem to never find a fault with Apple.
