022806-clamcase.jpg

Clamcase is likely the first of many integrated keyboard case designs for the iPad. The Clamcase promises a protective shell, integrated bluetooth keyboard and stand for the iPad. The iPad, itself, is housed in the top segment that can open up and fold backward.

The images look like they may just be renders than actual product photos, however, so its hard to say how well the case will work in practice. The case is claimed to be available sometime later this year.

Looks like an interesting concept. However, I hope that the Clamcase won't add too much weight and thickness to the iPad as it appears to be.

I like it , but the cost + and Ipad would be ridoicus so not really worth it! And why not a laptop  why not a cheaper netbook?

build in the camera connection kit and make it thinner.

looking forward to see more innovation around the iPad

I love how apple tells its consumers what they should want, and then other companies step in and try to make that product into what consumers asked for in the first place.. I would still love a 10" macbook with OS X, but this case is ridiculous

What's the point? might as well get a laptop and completely defies the point of the iPad lol...

Why not just get a laptop?

Two reasons OTTOMH:

1. You don't have to always use it this way. You can use it like a laptop when it makes sense - and as a raw iPad at other times. You can't do that with a laptop.

2. It's still a multitouch device (looks like it doesn't have a trackpad or anything - I doubt that would even be possible). In some ways using the multitouch display would be more awkward in this configuration - but there would be cases where it would make sense.

Bottom line is it wouldn't make sense for everyone - just as the iPad itself doesn't make sense for everyone - but for those that it does such shells could be really useful (yes I know that's an oxymoron).

What is up with the 'screen' on the iPad on the websites front page...the minigore screenie is flipped. Image

EDIT: oh, looks like the MR-effect is in...effect. The flipped image is 'possibly' deliberate then.

Lolwut? Just get a laptop. I cannot see this selling much.

If you want a touchscreen netbook, get an iPad.
If you want something more, get a laptop or computer.
Who in their right mind is going to think about buying the iPad and then this clamcase thing?

Love the concept, however I doubt the price will be reasonable.

I remember loving the detachable keyboard with the HP tc1100 years ago. I'd still own it if Microsoft knew how to develop a touch OS. That's beside the point though.

For anyone wondering what the point is, the option to attach/remove a keyboard at will from a tablet makes it so much more than a tablet or a laptop. It is both.

What idiots! What a mook! What morons! What a maroon!!!!

These dips should be thwapped on the back of the head for eternity by some sort of Grant Imahara original.

How could they be so stupid to overlook something so simple that I can see it from HERE without ever having used it?!

When you flip the lid back all the way, the keyboard is facing out!! This means if you flip the lid up past 180º to display the iPad screen frontmost, the keyboard will be touching the surface of whatever it is sitting on! Not only that, if you flip it back to use the iPad screen in your hands, the hand that you're holding the iPad with goes where? Guess? Take a wild ****ing guess!! All across the keys!!!!!

Every time somebody is blinded by their own tunnel vision and ****s up in such a way that I can see the seams from lightyears away, it makes me wonder how much money I could have made in my lifetime doing exactly that! Jumping down people's throats for **** moronic **** ups!
