Enjoy it. I also have a 2015 15' Retina MBP that I can do these things on. If I thought any other computer was worth what I get on a MBP, I would buy it instantly. Nothing beats Apple support.
Both of my MBPs have different uses.

You have a rMBP, so my argument doesn't apply to you lol. I love the rMBP. I am simply saying the cMBP is not worth the $1000+ price tag in 2015. I would buy two high end Windows 10 laptops for $500 a piece any day.

But then you get less ports and no built in optical.

who burns CDs in 2015? My car's CD player stopped working in around 2012, I gave up and starting using my AUX input off of my phone. CDs are going the way of the Cassette and Record Player. They mean nothing to the average consumer.

Which is why I waited to it was on sale for $899 for it. I paid $849 for mine.

If it still does what people want in 2020, then what's wrong with it?

then why can't Apple stop being stubborn, and UPGRADE THE INSIDES?!

cMBP can be sold for $1100, with updates to Intel 5th gen, 1080P screen and 8GB RAM and I would not complain.

Yes I know it would need new motherboards etc, but if Apple is one of the biggest companies in the world, why won't they spend on it?

Plenty of people still do. Ever see how many computers still come with CD/DVD burners today?

yeah the crappy Value laptops under $500 at Best Buy.

When I think of a good Windows laptop, I think of $700 and up. Laptops like the Lenovo Yoga 3, Surface Pro 3, HP SPECTRE, Dell 7000 series, Toshiba Radius, etc.

Why are you posting in this thread again?

because it bothers me that the cMBP is part of Apple's product portfolio in late 2015.

The thing should be killed off ASAP. I work at Best Buy, and I have to actually explain to people how old the thing is. Some customers automatically walk up to it after reading the "Macbook Pro" price tag. They don't even know that the Retina is actually the new Pro. Then it goes on sale for $999 and they think they are getting some deal, not realizing that it's 3 year old parts inside a 2010 casing.

Do you realize how foolish you sound? You make this sound like someone killed your newborn and you want revenge. Give it up. Live your life. It's summer.

so you paid $849 for something that was last updated in 2012. Good job

I paid $900 for a(lightly used) mid-2012 variant that Apple hasn't even made 2013 not too long ago, and was thrilled with it.

To each their own. It's the laptop I wanted to buy but couldn't afford when I bought my late '11 13" in the spring of 2012(BTW, that one is still going strong) and I'm planning on keeping this most recent purchase going as long as I can. With 16gb of RAM and a 500gb SSD, it has a lot of life left in it.

It shouldn't be killed off, it should just be updated. A few months ago, Apple replaced my 2012 cMBP with a 2015 rMBP under warranty, so I sold the retina pro to a family member and went and bought another 2012 cMBP. This time I got the i7 model (instead of the base i5) and I bought a Samsung 1 TB SSD. It bench marks close to the retina Pro + it is just about as fast with the SSD. I also get the added bonus of going to 16 GB of RAM when I need it, and possibly one day an even bigger SSD. I have ethernet & Firewire + an optical drive, and at the same time I have Thunderbolt and USB 3.0. I also have the battery light indicator, sleep light and IR sensor which the Retina Pro has. I also enjoy the non force touch trackpad, as I really don't like the feel of the new one. Finally, I love the feel of the cMBP. Its solid and just feels like a great computer (thought hats very personal).

I would have loved a Retina display, but the display on the cMBP is still great. Battery life would have also been nice but I cope with 7 on the cMBP.

I know a lot of people who have bough a cMBP over an Air or a retina Pro, so I wish they'd just update it.

DVDs and CDs mean a lot to the basic user, especially the Windows switcher. I know plenty of people who prefer buying their Music on CD, as you get a physical and digital copy as a result. I burn DVDs of home movies for family members, as its just too hard to do it other ways. I myself burn CDs for the car, as a Learner driver I'm not allowed to be using a phone in any capacity while driving, and in addition to that, a CD gives me full control without looking down (though at the cost of number of songs).

Not to mention the fact that while the DVD/Blu-Ray market has shrunk, its still huge. Considering how small the SSDs are on the retina pros, its hard to store a DVD collection on a laptop.

I did a search for "do you still buy CDs" and the most people who posted or answered the various polls, said yes.

My car is nine years old and I went back to using the factory stereo because I shorted out the XM receiver in it so I activated the factory XM radio and went on my way. Sure it has no AUX jack or any way to connect a iPod or phone but I can and have been burning MP3 CDs so that I can put hours and hours of podcasts on a single CD and play then in my car and even sort through the episodes on the stereos screen to find what I want on the CD. Plus, the steering wheel controls work with the stereo and I have missed being able to use those over the past six years or so.

I also searched on BestBuy for laptops with burners built in and there were many that ranged from $1500 on up to $3,000 so his point that only cheap $350 laptops come with them is invalid. They wouldn't come with a burner built in if there wasn't still a demand.

I love both of my MBPs, the 2015 retina 15" and the 2012 non retina 13". I would buy both of them again without thinking twice.

Apple has been telling people "you don't need optical drives", and if there was a superior or more convenient technology I would agree with them, but for convenience, CDs and DVDs are still very good for the average consumer. Every single person (all basic users) I've upgraded to a Mac in the last 2 years has had to buy an external disk drive with their computer.

I'm sick of the 'discontinue the Classic Macbook Pro argument'. I agree with you, both the retina pro and the non retina pro are both good laptops with markets. The fact that people are buying it (it outsells the Air and retina pro on Amazon) despite the fact it is 3 years old says something. Apple just needs to update it and maintain it alongside the retina pro. Perhaps name it the Classic Macbook.

It's because the average consumer isn't a dork like us and hardly knows anything about computers in the first place. More than likely the 3 year old software will do the job. I think your argument on the casing is irrelevant at this point. People can visualize aesthetics and if they don't like the build they don't have to buy. Only people that like dropping 1500 (insert the sorry excuse for a MacBook here) a year will care about the thinness of a Mac and honestly any thinner and I will be dropping the damn thing every time I pull it out of my bag so maybe I'm the dumb one. Just the other day I was wishing I had a optical drive..... Then I realized that I dropped 3k on a Mac that couldn't process a dvd but that screen tho.... Am I right? Am I right? Leave the cmbp people alone already.

I am able to, on the gorgeous IPS 3200x1800 panel on my ASUS Zenbook. I paid $1160 for it and it's better than the rMBP

And I paid $1269 for my 2015 retina MacBook Pro which will have far better resale value. Now go off and play with your Windows laptop somewhere else. Stop trolling.

Nothing wrong with people spending too much money on 4 year old tech if thats what they want to do, I think they are stupid, crazy and have their priorities wrong but hey I couldn't care less what people waste their money on.
I agree with you, but the sad thing is some people don't know it's a 4 year old computer. They've heard Macbook are good notebooks and they walk into an apple store and pay top dollar for an obsolete machine. :(

It's the same in the phone world. For example, my grandma just got a Galaxy S3 for $150 ON CONTRACT.

Thus Apple should update them. Then again, buying the new Macbook Retina is like buying a 2011 Macbook Air spec wise, and thats even more expensive than the non retina pro...

It would be a really minor update, honestly. Put a broadwell processor in it and that would give better battery life as well. If they were feeling super generous they'd put a fusion drive in as standard, thus giving speed + space.

Wouldn't it just be easier to cut the price of the retina model by $100 and discontinue the the non-retina model though?

Actually, I'd throw the question the opposite way. People seemed to be offended that others don't agree that Apple should still be selling it. Also, I completely agree with the advantages of the cMBP and I wouldn't mind if Apple continued to update it. It's more so the age and the price they are selling it for. I feel the same way about the non-retina iMacs and the Mac Pro, which haven't been touched for 2 years. If people want to blow money on it, more power to them. That doesn't mean I agree with it, or that I can't voice my disapproval.

That's not the issue and completely misses the point. A 2009 Macbook still works for many people I know. Should Apple still be selling the 2009 Macbook new for $1000 still?

Like I said, it doesn't really bother me, but I think for what Apple charges for it without updates is in poor taste. That is all.

If people were willing to buy the 2009 MBP for $1000 then I don't see anything wrong with Apple or anyone else selling it for that much.

"who burns CDs in 2015?"

I do.
Just burned a new CD for the car yesterday.

For the car on a trip, I actually prefer CDs to USB flashdrives. It's quicker and easier to pick out an album of songs, listen to it, eject and replace on the road without having to scroll through an index of folders on a flashdrive.

BTW, I've never owned an iPod, iPad or iPhone, either.

But I do own three Macs, and maintain one more as well.

I burned half a dozen today.
