I don't care so much about the upgradability of the cMBP, but I absolutely miss the antiglare display. While the rMBP isn't as bad as most glossy screens, IMO nothing compares to traditional matte.

i'm using that moshi ivisor thing for antiglare... not as good as a true antiglare of course but works ok.

The anti-glare display is exactly why I jumped on this mid-2012 when I had the chance

so can we have affordable internal 1.5 or 2tb internal storage on the 13" rmbp now? count me in! #not!

Not that I am aware of, but that still doesn't change the fact that the rMBP was the upgrade 3 years ago! I guarantee Apple will never develop one specific logic board just to 'upgrade' this unit, as upsetting as that may sound.

They might if they continue to sell it, considering how well it sells. We got a new iPod Touch which seemed unlikely, so I don't see it impossible for Apple to give the cMBP a deserving update. The cMBP often overtakes the rMBP and the Air on the selling charts, and currently sits at number 7, just below the retina pro at 5.

The Retina Pro wasn't an upgrade from the cMBP. Its more of a downgrade for the things that people buy the cMBP.

I don't see that happening myself. Like others have said, the retina 2012 WAS the upgraded model and everything is moving towards retina displays.

Apple is clearly selling plenty of these 2012 non retina 13" 2012 MBPs still. Mine was made in June 2015 so they are selling enough that old stock is not being sold and comes installed with Yosemite. At this rate, I think it will remain a part of the lineup for quite some time.

That would be a massive shame. The cMBP is the last of their proper laptops. The last where features were not compromised heavily for thinness. The Retina Pro is not an upgraded cMBP, it lacks the majority of what makes the cMBP a good laptop.

I think that it really needs to get an update at the end of this year. How much does it cost to continue buying Ivy Bridge parts? Surely it will end up costing less to put a Haswell or Broadwell chip on the board then to continue on with Ivy Bridge parts. Not to mention the mega bucks they've probably made through no advertising + no case design update + no update in the last couple of years, they can probably invest a tiny amount of money into a small update.

I agree. It's the reason I wanted to buy one new while I still had a chance. I missed the solid feel the the old MacBooks had. The last one I owned was back in 2009 and I sold it about two years later. The 2012 still has the IR sensor for the remote, the battery charge indicator lights on the left side and all the great ports. It has 3.0 USB and thunderbolt 1. I don't have anything that uses thunderbolt and really have no plans to get anything at this time.

I tend to use this more than my 2015 15" Retina MBP.

Oh yeah I forgot you actually like the classic Macbook Pro :p

I bought one a month ago, as Apple replaced my cMBP (2012) with a 2015 retina pro. I sold the retina pro and was able to afford the i7 cMBP + a 1TB SSD + a future 16 GB ram update. I use the remote, the battery icon indicator, optical drive, ethernet and firewire regularly. I also like the sleep light. Not to mention that the Retina pro is stuck with the 8GB of ram soldered and the SSD was small and a not really cheaply replaceable part - so getting a 1TB SSD + the fact i can upgrade the ram when I need it plus all the other parts make it work it. My only real complaint is that its not Haswell/Broadwell and the battery could be better. But thats worth it for all the other advantages.

But if they just discontinue it, nobody will care. Apple fans will just flock over to the sensible option, the 2015 Retina Pro, which is usually on sale at a lot of shops for $1200 or less.. My bet is it will be killed off after WWDC.

You have to make consumers change their mindsets. When the 17" and 15" Pro were removed, die hard fans complained for a few months, then got over it when they realized how much more advanced the Retina Models are.

I would even consider a Macbook Air over the MD101, at least it has a close to HD, 900P screen and a superfast PCI-E SSD

No, we do not. We still want the machine for the professionals back.
