Did the 'whitelist' expand beyond the 18 prefixes on the original firmware?

ispot/super (super for admin/password), click on 'device info' and check the whitelisted MAC prefixes listed under 'restricted use'

thanks for any info!

For readers interested in the iSpot, not about coverage, or arguing about the term "4G"...

So, I did the firmware update without problems.

Software Version 2.0.0.0 [R1786 (Aug 4 2010 20:09:06)]
Firmware Version 1.9.9.4

For me, everything has changed, for the better. My MacBook can still connect.
And, my :apple: iPhone 3G and :apple: iPod Touch 1G are both online. :D :D

Network is back - must have been something other than rain.

Has anyone experienced rain fade? Barely raining, just damp but the iSpot cannot find a signal. Has gone from solid green to flashing red.

can't find 'whitelist' here.

My iSpot gave me the connectivity (unrestricted, so far,) I reported without any modification by me. That is to say, I did not spoof any MAC numbers, nor did I set any whitelist.

I don't remember the 18 prefixes from the original firmware, and can not find them on the new version. (I did sign on as admin.)

You must log in as super, not admin.

super/super ??

You must log in as super, not admin.

to be clear...

I did a hardware reset and tried to log on as:
super/super
super/admin
admin/super
none of which worked.

If you could be a little more helpful... and I get logged on...
I will be happy to post my findings.

As I reported earlier, with my wifi iPad on iSpot network, I find the map can locate me pretty precisely. There are suspicions that it could due to some nearby wifi hotspot. So I did a small test run today. I parked my car in a very remote parking garage today. Pretty sure it is in a very deserted place without any other wifi signal. It turns out that even without any other wifi spot close by, it still can locate very fast and accurately.

I am very impressed. Happy so far. :D

I have been using it for two days in Philly area with my iPad and it works great. I figured it was worth $50 try it for a month. I heard the device price will go to $99 on Tuesday, but I am not sure that is true.

Did you to what 'ncbill' suggested in post above?

In Safari, you type in:

ispot/super
-or-
192.168.1.1/super

and then use password 'super'

This is not the normal 'admin' prompt.

In the log (which can save or copy from), you will see lines that end in:

/RestrictedUse/Organization/0/OUI=0026B0

Those lines are what ncbill wanted to see. I suspect he wants to see if any lines were added/deleted by the firmware update.

Restricted use: 37 prefixes

Thanks, jasg49. Now I understand.
I now can count 37 prefixes.

I set mine up on saturday in my office so that IT can not track my internet usage while at work. Very, very happy so far.

Has anyone found a way to somehow leverage the iSpot for an internally routed LAN w/o running a mac spoofed PC/Mac as the dhcp server for connection sharing?

I was hoping to share this out via my airport express, but lack of spoofability and no ethernet on the ispot leaves me looking at other options.

One of those prefixes C42C03 is the first three bytes of the MAC address of my Mid 2010 i7 iMac

Too damn bad they don't have service in Los Angeles.
One of those is the prefix of my mid-2007 MBP. My guess is that Apple doesn't completely segregate MAC address prefixes between iOS and OSX products, so in order to make the iSpot work with all iOS devices, it also works with some Macs.

I don't suppose anyone is not liking the iSpot and would like to sell it to a poor schmuck like me who missed out on the great deal, eh?

pm me if so.. seriously.

Clearwire is finally available in my area, Los Angeles. How's your experience today, posters, with Clear? I currently have unlimited data with ATT on my 3G iPad. Do you recommend I switch?

I heard that the company(Clear) is not doing well and might go under. True?

Clear devices are useless

These personal wifi hotspots are worthless.

Jailbreak your iPhone. Install MyWi ($20 flat fee).

I live in the Philly area and it's great. We have it setup in the family minivan my wife and kids use it all the time on the road. It's convenient for the iPod Touches and iPad in the family while out and about. And it's significantly faster speeds than AT&T 3G in the area. I average 3mbps but have gotten speeds up to 6mbps in many cases. If you have 4G in your area, I don't think you will be disappointed.
