Why would it include Firewiare 800 if it had lightpeak?
Why doesn't it look like any of the draft connectors.

Apple would have to be stupid to push this thought only a display port and without the USB style hybrid connector.

im calling fake. the logo is black and looking at the past logo integrations, they have all been light silver as to not take away from the aluminum aesthetic.

why black now? it stands out way to much and is ugly. sorry FAKE

Could be fake....seems ridiculous to not take wider angle shots of the laptop...

Ie. the rounded corners, etc....

Look at the box. That's not fake. (there are several pictures)

why would you want it to look like a USB port? Lightpeak could carry USB protocol, doesn't mean it should look like a USB port. Same reason why the PCI slot doesn't look like a USB port.

What about if we bought iMac at the apple Store?
Could be its fake?

Thanks

Lame name. I thought lighting had bolts, not thunder...

Lame, indeed.

I wonder if the name is Apple's idea of taking a standard and trying to make it proprietary or whether Intel may be involved in using a different name for the intermediate copper based connector instead of the fiber based Light Peak?

If Apple have done something other than putting a name on a standard it would not be good for the accessory manufacturers or us (consumers).

Two pictures of a box... I am just saying, that if it wasnt a fake, then we would have seen a lot more... I am sure that there a few dozen people on this forum that have more than enough photoshop skills at their disposals to come up with what has been shown...

so other than the new Lightning logo, it looks like a regular 13".

it would have been smarter for the creator to Photoshop out the usb port.

if they are going to use LP, why have Firewire AND USB?

i see so they made i look like a minidisplay port instead?

Why would we have seen more? Apple employees have to sign non-disclosure agreements and even APR staff would be under threat of being sacked if it was discovered they'd leaked info to this forum. Don't assume this is fake.

Early this morning, a couple of sites posted specs from the upcoming low end 13" MacBook Pro and revealed that Apple will be incorporating Light Peak into the new machines under the name "Thunderbolt". We've confirmed that these specs and photos are legitimate, but only for the low end 13" MacBook Pro model. We still haven't seen the specs for the mid-range and high-end model.

Mac4Ever has posted a followup close-up image of the new Thunderbolt/DisplayPort hybrid port found on the new 13" MacBook Pro.

Intel is expected to officially launch Light Peak/Thunderbolt on Thursday alongside Apple's new MacBook Pros.

Not buying this rumor at all. It makes FAR more sense to hybridize the FireWire 800 port or one of the USB ports than it does the miniDP port. Unless it's Apple's way of squeezing $40 more for the splitter for normal miniDP and normal Lightpeak.

Not assuming it is fake, it just wouldnt surprise me... If you were taking the trouble to hold up a bank at gunpoint, would you just take a 20$ bill? Essentially the NDA was broken when whomever took these pictures...so why not make it worth your while and show more of it? That was my point...

Not if you want to get the port onto the iPad. Its pretty clear that this is the direction that Apple wants to take this.

This technology isn't even applicable to current peripherals - it will take at least a year for it to become "somewhat mainstream."

Just like them Apple unveiled USB 1 and there were few devices available. Hopefully this will gain momentum and become standard for high capacity peripherals.

HOW many firewire 800 drives are out there ? How many thunderbolt peripherals are out there ?

Screwing around with firewire 800 = big uproar

Using new port before anyone else with no peripherals commercially available = bragging rights (but at least you can use it as a mini display port so it's not entirely redundant).

Thunderbolt is bragging rights at the moment. The fastest I/O port available on any computer etc... just forget that sod all uses it at the moment.

b\c most peripherals are already usb. That way, they'd all be backwards compatible by default and lower the adoption time of the tech to months rather than years.
