The point is, Apple has always been a company that thinks of the big picture and not the small market of people. Most people put their phone in their pocket and having the headphone jack on the bottom makes it easiest to pull out of your pocket and not fray the headphone cable.

If you want something to satisfy your needs get a different phone. Apple cares to the majority.

The majority that owned the first five generations are different from the majority now? Disagree all you want (that's ok) but "most people agree" seems like a wrong statement, and an excuse.

And there can be no change after someone dies? Your arguments about the hole is exactly what Jobs would not have done.

Why the absolutism around here?

Lets compared shall we?

Iphone 4. They decide to go with a difficult manufacturing process that required foxconn to buy special machines to make. The antenna was flawed but they went with it anyhow because they wanted that metal band around the edge look.

Iphone 5 according to you, the hole are there as lesser of evils. Yeah that sounded like the Jobs who once build a factory where he specified what color each machine was painted.

iPhone 3g had an all plastic design. They could stick with the metal look of the first iPhone, but they didn't, because they felt that look was less crucial than signal. It was also thicker!
Steve jobs would never have approved iPhone 3g...oh wait!
He approved, because "that" was the lesser of evils.

The iPhone 4-style speaker isn't great, because when you hold the device in landscape, if you happen to cover that single hole with the finger it will stop all the sound from coming out. In the long term it will damage the speaker itself. I'd also like to remind you that the iPad has a single speaker, on the RIGHT part. What about the simmetry?
Steve jobs would never have approved the iPad!
And you know what? If the antennagate happened with the iPhone 5, instead of the iPhone 4, you would still be here, complaining about how Steve Jobs would never have allowed an iPhone with a flawed antenna system!

"Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works." Steve Jobs

The more recessed screen and unibody design should add quite a bit of strength and rigidity.

Looks good as well.

Looks like a boring, regurgitated design to me. Might as well just call it an iPhone 4+. Not that anyone will be able to tell the difference when you are holding it, since most people will slap a gawdy thick cover on it. I can see it now. Conversation around the water cooler.

"Hey is that an iPhone 4? "
" No, it's the iPhone 5! Can't you see it is half an inch longer? Are you blind!?! Totally different than the 4! This design is revolutionary! "
"Sure bud. Looks like a 4 from 2 feet away."

I'm curious on how many new customers have the 4S compared to the 3GS and 4 as this may impact this years sales due to 2-year contracts in North America and any other nation which has contracts. It seemed the 4S had the most sales of any iPhone launch to date (especially given new launches in countries that didn't have iPhone's).

I'm curious as this may [negatively] impact sales as customers will either wait for next years model or [some may] pay the full price for an off contract device. Either way, I can't imagine the "5" surpassing the 4S in global sales. Any one have exact figures? Thanks!

I got my iPhone 4 on launch day. 4S didn't seem like that big a change and I wasn't upgrade eligible anyway, so never got one. I'm ready to trade my 4 for a 5 on day one.

These leaks are making me leak!

Too. Much. Information. ;)

This is the most anticipated iPhone ever.

That's what they about every iPhone launch...

Disappoint who? You and the other tech nerds who are looking for some unnecessary redesign? You must be extremely unhappy with Apple selling the same notebook designs for 4-5 years at a time...

Yup a design will get old after a few versions . . .

I don't notice the thickness THAT much, it still looks as "fat". So many on here say that it looks like the iPhone 4. The only thing that's the same is the sides where you press the buttons.

You don't notice the thickness? It's 18% thinner. It will be VERY noticible when u hold it. What do you mean "it still looks as fat?" Take another look at the pics. You can see exactly how much thinner it is. And it's doesn't look the same.

Sorry, I'm not hitting every thread on this thing.
But this is the first that shows the new connection port.
How will this phone work with current chargers, USB cables, stereo ports, BOSE and other similar styled docks, my clock radio dock, etc etc?

I am missing something? :confused::confused:

Please forgive if covered elsewhere.

They will probably provide an adapter, like with the new magsafe 2 connector on the Mac. And who knows, maybe it will be included right into the box (I don't think so, but one can have dreams ;) )

Even so, i'm not digging the idea of pulling my phone out at an opportune moment to share a song over at a friends house, or in a car or whatever, and be like, crap, wheres my adapter thingy?
Its bad enough I need to pull out the adapter when giving presentation with my past 3 MBP's?

I might just save the cash and get a 4GS for next to nothing when I renew my phone plan.

Thin

Why don't they just take the battery out? Then they could make it really thin. They obviously are not concerned with having the device function for a reasonable period of time before needing to be recharged :( I also think a few more centimeters of screen on the top is useless - better to have more diagonal space - imo.

Well, the choice is yours, of course. But keep in mind that you won't get an iPhone 4s for next to nothing. You'll be bonded to a 2 years contract and that's where you will pay the most part of the iPhone.
For example, If the price range stays the same, here in Italy, where I live, the iPhone 5 will Be about 650 euros, the 4s about 550 euros...not so smart to go with the 4s in my humble opinion. I think that looking at the full prices helps to keep things in perspective. I agree that the new port will be a little inconvenient, but let's see if it has also some positive sides, and let's see the phone as a whole before taking decisions...that's my advice for you my friend ;)

it looks exactly the same as old one excepting bottom, headphone jack, and screen size. screen size is still pathetic. who uses 4inch screen nowadays? it's too small. design is lame. I hope that Apple can't use LTE technology to their rotten phone. Samsung will sue for it. plus, it is funny that sharp can't handle supply demand right away. you apple fanboys should wait for another two weeks at least. whereas Samsung GS3 is already in the market with plenty of supply. I bet that apple will be in trouble to catch up with supply. if thing will happen, customers will turn, and go to Samsung. now, new iphone is already leak. everybody knows. it's so disappointed design anyway. move on.

Happens every year ahead of the iPhone launch. Seems like it has something to do with how much I spend on monthly service.

Yeah, there seems to be a little mysterious math with some accounts, where the pro-rated discounts are offered sooner (especially folks with long term accounts with many lines).

We've been with AT&T with a couple of lines, most features since '03 and we usually get a month or two in advance of the usual upgrade schedule.

* I'm actually contract free on one line, ~9 months in the second, so one is definitely a fully subsidized purchase, but I think we're going to finally bail for Verizon (I guess we'll owe ~$225 ETF on the one line...)

* CSB

Honestly, I'm not jazzed about this phone.

More and more it seems like the emperor has no clothes.
