Hmmm....I might get it, and don't mind paying $2 for it.
But only if it's FAST.
I've been disappointed by too many "official" apps from companies who took way too long to deliver an iPhone app, only for it to be worse than their previous mobile web sites (I'm looking at you, Flickr!).

So I'll wait for reviews first....

EDIT: Early reviews say there are ads...in a PAID app! Oh hell no. If they want to offer a free version with ads, then ok. But if it's paid, it should have NO ads.

My god you whiny little children...

Have any of you ever actually watched CNN on TV? Well if you have, guess what, it's not part of the free network channels, you are paying for it as part of a basic cable package and yes, they still show ads! So you are paying and seeing ads, whether it's on TV or on your iPhone... get over it people and grow up!

Has anybody tested on whether the LIVE video is actually live?

I was watching the live feed in my car and it was great. I'd say there's a small delay, probably 2-4 seconds, which doesn't seem too bad.

If you watch the CNN.com feed and the one on the app (iPhone is on 3G, not Wi-Fi) at the same time, you'll see there's a minor delay. But on Wi-Fi, there isn't any delay.

Overall, I think this is a great app... the ads aren't a big deal to me, but it'd be nice if they got rid of them.

Just found out about this app from a link on the CNN mobile site. I use the CNN mobile site almost every day (have it on my home screen). Nice to see a dedicated app. I will probably grab this. I also just downloaded the ESPN Radio app today after hearing about it on Mike & Mike this morning. It was worth the price to pick up my local ESPN radio from anywhere.

CNN was doing a little segment showing this app off today. And it look really impressive. Especially the part about uploading Ireports. And streaming Breaking News.

Save your money. Slow, ad-supported (!) garbage, IMO.

Ad supported and yet it costs $1.99???

Exactly. A paid app that's chock full of glaringly conspicuous ads. What an absolute JOKE.

I doubt that I would pay 2 bucks for an app like this. The news is great an all but there are plenty of free places to receive even better non biased news.

The Ads are disappointing to say the least. If the App was free I would understand. Personally, Ads are an insult.

Yet another "grow up" argument that has nothing to do with growing up, just people that don't agree with your opinion

Never understood why people use that phrase when it doesn't apply.

It just makes the poster look weak in their argument.

No, he's right, you need to grow up. ANYBODY complaining about this excellent news app using ads, needs to also grow up.

ADVERTISING is a multi billion dollar industry practice... It's how the WORLD works. Companies advertise, which makes it possible for us to see shows on TV or movies in theaters or products in stores.

If you don't wanna pay $2 for a news app because of tiny bars that appear onscreen for seconds at a time, FINE. Make sure you also refuse to drive down a street with a billboard, or to watch a channel that has commercials, or rent a DVD with previews, or food that says on the package "Also try..." etc. etc.

I'd suggest that you cool down a bit, too.

It all depends upon what you consider worth the money, doesn't it? I find it perfectly reasonable that someone refuses to pay $2 for an ad-laden iPhone application while agreeing to rent a commercial DVD with previews for $3-4.

Besides, you can choose an application other than CNN Mobile. That's often not the case with TV programs and DVDs.

Actually, I avoid advertising whenever possible. There are no billboards in my town, I pay $60 for TV seasons through iTunes so that I don't HAVE to watch shows on TV with ads (in fact I refuse to watch OTA programming, EVER, because I hate having ads shoved down my throat), and I don't rent DVDs (even if I did, I've hacked my DVD player to bypass all of the ads and skip right to the longest title on the disc, which is invariably the movie) ... As for food, I generally eat it and discard the packaging. ;) On my computer I use FF+adblock, I hack my iPhone and use a modified hosts file to cut some of the advertising in Safari, and I use fairly aggressive anti-spam filters plus a white/grey/blacklist system to cut down on email advertising.

Regardless of my disdain for advertising in general, however, the fact is that I paid for this app and expect more than this. I payed money to have ads thrust in my face? WTF?!

LoL.... ads thrust in your face is a bit much don't you think? As far as unbiased news..... Those of you that say cnn is biased prob don't believe anything unless it comes from Fixed news.

I like the app a lot of course except for all those adds being thrust in my face

It's $2 for an app that is updated constantly.... a few flashes of an add really isn't a big deal for what you get imho. Plus you can customize your experience, get local news and info, watch video.... very well done and worth every $.01 of $2.00

my lord you sound like you were scared by a tv add when you were a kid seriously get a life.

If I am paying for an app there there should not be any ads in it. That is just complete BS. I don't care how unobtrusive the ads are.

I do have a life, which is precisely why I don't like to waste my time watching ads. Good call. ;)
