I'll be applying in the fall. If there's anybody who got accepted to either MIT or Brown, would you mind saying how many extracurriculars you had, how were you academically, and what you got on the SAT? Just wanting to find out about where I would stand in the admissions process.

I am sure those schools have stats on incoming freshmen

Do you have a backup school just in case?

University of Illinois - Urbana/Champaign. Super stoked. :D

Engineering-Computer Science. You know, just to fill out that extra geek quota that needed to be met.

straight out of HS going to MIT
most likely CS & Management double major
Go Class of 2014!

Yeah, I could always go to USC, but that's 30 minutes away from my parents instead of 20 hours lol :D(I may go there anyways if I choose to go to grad school afterwards, because I could easily get scholarships instate); I think I might have the academics(top 5% of my class with I think 9 Ap classes by the time I graduate) but I was wondering about extracurriculars, I only have 2 that I'm a member of and haven't had any leadership positions...

If you want to know anything about USC don't hesitate to ask me either in this thread or through a PM. I just graduated from there last Friday and will be attending a Masters program this upcoming school year.

Keep in mind there is a difference between
1) Getting in
2) Getting in and not paying a fortune (via being awarded scholarships)

Personally, I would opt for a #2 scenario to ease the financial burden as much as possible and do well enough so you can go to grad school at the school of your choice....and get paid to go

I am all for getting a college education as cheap as possible. I know too many who go to 40k a year schools to
1) not finish and owe a year or so worth of tuition and nothing to show of it
2) finish, owe 4-5 years of tuition (so like what...shy of 200k), only to find a job that pays most likely less than 50k a year off the bat, if you get a job that is

Talk about some positions I don't want to ever be in lol

Just checking, are you referring to Southern Cal or South Carolina? because I'm referring to South Carolina.

I think in either situation, I won't be paying for most of it if any of it for undergrad, it's just that if I choose to go to grad school, and I went to a 40-50k a year school for undergrad, I would be paying for grad school. But I'm pretty sure that in either computer science, any science major, or something to do with space(My three areas I want to study), I'll probably need grad school.

Halfway through now...just two more years plus a PhD then I'm done.
What I wouldn't give to be a fresher again...

There's plenty of stuff on CollegeConfidential.com. As for me, I did fairly well in school, didn't do very well on the SAT (in range 2200, 2300) and aced three SAT subject tests. My extracurriculars and personality definitely gave me a huge advantage, which colleges undoubtedly look for.

My advice: Don't become a testing drone; find something you really like to do, do it well, and showcase your work. That will get you into your dream school.

Currently filling in my application for an MA in Psychotherapy. Gave everything a shot for 2 years after graduating with my BA and decided to go back to university to kick start a totally different career.
I've not been accepted yet but preliminary talks with the course leader have gone very well. It's also a doozy of an application form!

just graduated this may with my MBA!

all done with school forever! yayyy

Congratulations! If everything goes as planned, I will be working to get my MBA as soon as I am done with my undergraduate studies.
