Serie A expires in 2024, that'll be a bigger get. I REALLY hope Apple goes after Series A, it's also only like 200M.

If ever there were evidence that Apple is becoming boringly corporate, it's probably this.

The problem was never the price and, with Apple, it’s never going to be the price. The terms Apple wants, the NFL’s not going to offer, so there’s no amount of money that would bring that deal to fruition.
Always a possibility when you have enough money to make it count for billions of dollars.

Oh man, this must be a cruel joke.
Being a proud USC alum, I would have loved for the school to remain in the Pac-12. Other than Washington and Oregon, the remaining Universities in the Zac-12 conference probably won’t be much of a draw compared to schools in the Big Ten and the Big 12.

Apple must taken the low lying (Pac-12) fruit from the tree.

Don't understand the negative comments.

First, colleges hopping conferences is as common as the sun rising in the morning.

Second, if Pac12 cuts a deal with Apple, and it delivers even reasonably decent numbers, well that is going to be a major win for both the conference and Apple.

Third, it's a fair bet people join Apple TV to watch the Oregon Ducks, Washington, and yes even Arizona and Stanford. AppleTV is more fairly priced than many other streamers. Just pray they don't raise the price as Apple pays for more sports packages.

Fourth, the Pac-12 (or whatever), now being aligned with one of the biggest companies on the planet? These university presidents are utterly shameless, and will flock to $$$$ like flies on fecal matter. Just watch how many more schools the Pac12 picks up if this deal gets done.

I think you are overestimating the $$$$ from sports. For example, sports at Ohio State generated around $250 million vs 1 billion in research, and sports are generally break even or money losers at most schools; with Ohio State's expenses at around 250 million that leaves 25 million in profit. Granted, many things go into expenses and would make Hollywood blush in some cases, but in the end sports may be good advertising but aren't cash cows.

USC and UCLA, being AAU schools, are more attractive in many ways to the B1G for academics than sports, the same with Oregon, Wash State and even Cal and Stanford.

I didn't say sports was a main revenue generator for any college.

I am saying when it comes to a sports conference, university presidents have zero loyalty, and will jump at anyone dangling a few more dollars. Just look how USC utterly screwed their own Pac-12 conference: Pac-12 had a real chance to incorporate Texas and Oklahoma. USC's president objected -- only to abandon the entire Pac-12 conference just ten months later.

That was the point, illustrated perfectly by USC.

I am happy to see this. As usual they start out conservative and small, then let things unfold. IMHO ACC is vulnerable to contract negotiations and pulls in a huge TV market. That could be a win-win. I would certainly love to see clemson-nc state or clemson-fl state. Those games are always fun.

what??! lol... most of these players are not even from the region (west coast) and recruited in.

well they should 😂 I know mean
Generally speaking, programs flourish when they can primarily build their team in their region and only recruit nationally for difference makers. This is why SEC football has been king of college football in the 21st century. Broadly speaking, the Deep South's population is much larger than it was 40-50 years ago. Of course this is not universally true, some states are in population declines or stagnation but they're all close to Georgia, Florida, or Texas. States like Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia have seen better than average growth in various census periods over the last several decades.

The zenith of West Coast football coincides broadly with the 20th century peaks for migration westward. If Pac-12 teams are more reliant on out of region talent, thats precisely my point.

The scuttlebutt is that Florida State and Clemson are already having discussions that trend towards them shopping for a new conference affiliation but they're bound by a grant of rights contract until 2027, so I imagine they've probably already got backdoor deal with the Big Ten or SEC but won't move forward with it officially until closer to the end of the GOR.

For those of us outside United State of America, does College Football means University North American football? /s

University of Colorado is still in the Pac-12 through the end of the school year. Let's not forget this. #GoBuffs!

If this isn't treated as a separate subscription, I'm not interested. I mean, I'm not interested in it at all but I don't want my regular ATV+ subscription subsidizing this garbage. Let the jocks pay for it themselves.

will this save the PAC-12 from imploding?

Probably not.
Apple's is the best offer on the table. The Pac-12 approached NBC and ESPN and were rebuffed. My guess is that Apple sees this as a low-risk opportunity to showcase their platform. It won't cost them much and even if the Pac-12 disintegrates they can approach other conferences (ACC, Big 12) who will be renegotiating their media deals soon with a "track record" of covering college football.

How are they going to stream games for a dead conference? lol. Colorado is gone. USC is gone. UCLA is gone. I'd be willing to bet my left leg Oregon/Washington are gone very soon. The Big 12 will probably pick up 1-3 more Pac 12 teams. It's dead dead.

we can survive easily without Colorado! LOL
