Can anyone tell me if you can see where your at in your program when you fast forward? That was a huge gripe for me on the Roku app as I never knew when to stop to continue the program. If I can see where I'm at, I will gladly purchased 2 apple boxes and get rid of the x1 boxes

You mean live program? well it has the time, the recorded programs have a progress bar I believe. I am not a big fan of the X1 boxes, they are garbage in my opinion, this is a better option

As @JoeShades notes, recorded programs show you a time bar but no picture, so you have to estimate the length of the commercial break. That said, on the universal remote I have programmed for the ATV, if I tap FF or RW, it jumps + or - something like 10 or 15 seconds, enough to get where I need to if I over or undershoot.

We hardly ever watch live TV so the 1m buffer issue isn't an issue for us. The PQ is better, the UI is better. Win.

I just having to guess where the show starts again. I’ve heard on the Firestick it’s different and you can see the picture while your fast forwarding

Can you do a 30 second skip through commercials on dvr recordings on here?

I think an x1 box still wins here bc of their voice remote. And the built in apps. And just a more robust interface overall.

Curious how this will compare though.

I havent had a use for an apple tv box yet, bc everything is built in to xfinity x1 now.

Is everything still searchable in the stream app for apple tv? Like when u search in the stream app, does it show all results (amazon, appletv, hulu, netflix, etc?)

The general search is limited to content names not ch numbers using voice commands unless you use the search in live TV listings which allows ch numbers to be voice commanded which most will likely use.

The live TV guide is the newest interface they come with for this app. Scrolling up and down is present but you need to work at scrolling for it to speed up movement rather than buttons meant to page to page. Presently the Xfinity stream app is not searchable with Apple TV App, neither does it have separate settings under Apps. I think the tvOS needs to be updated to recognize its existence.

I still got rid of a couple of TV boxes because this finally came out, not the DVR box yet.

The X1 boxes are complete garbage, Apple tv has more apps built in, and X1 interface is more robust? What ? LOL. it takes over a minute for some apps to open on X1, you can't have more than one app open,I could go on but really

When the x1 boxes work, they’re better than any interface out there. And I despise comcast.
The voice controls have started to suck.
But the search and voice control and 30 second skip and full remote function vs a bad apple remote or roku remote, make it better. Its live tv + the apps. All in one. Apps do take a bit to open but its not that bad. Its not as bad as a built in tv app, although they probably open a bit quicker now on tvs with roku or google tv built in.
A true head to head and xfinity would win.
But if you remove live tv and just focus on apps, any streaming box would probably be better.

30 second skip forward and back is the best. Ffwd with smart resume on some dvr recordings is great.
Last Watched. Info. Series Info. Upcoming. Cast & Crew.
OnDemand.

I do have to give apple 4k a try though with the new remote. The last one was absolutely the worst remote in history.
Siri is also the worst.

Yeah x1 def wins.

Unless Xfinity made the Apple TV app to where you must watch it on your home network, this is not correct. I have no issues watching live TV on a non-Xfinity network on my iPhone, iPad, Mac or anything else. I also had no issues watching Xfinity live TV on a Roku not on a local network.
Those are all allowed to be out of the home as mobile devices. Roku, smart tv (lg), and Apple TV MUST be on your home xfinity network.

Using an X1 box for anything other than live TV and DVR'd shows is my idea of torture, plain and simple. They are AWFUL in general and particularly horrendous for using 3rd party apps.

I've been using the new app on my ATV exclusively for the past few days and find it far, far, better overall than the X1 box. Funny thing too is that even before the app, I was doing any/all DVR scheduling via the web interface bc the X1 UI is so awful. I can continue to use the web for same, and use the app on ATV to watch. Win.

Scheduling dvr recordings is way easier just using x1 rather than on the app.
Just say the name of the show you want to record, then click record. Its not complicated.

I find voice activation/input to be poor at best. Hard pass for me.

The only issue with voice is it doesnt work the first press for me. But then jt works fine. It actually recognizes what you say better than any voice assistant out there. You can have a mouthful of food and it still makes it out. Can’t imagine how bad Siri is on Apple Tv

My daughter has Xfinity Internet as well and I'm getting the error code over there using my Xfinity credentials but using my iPhone and MacBook Pro the streaming app works in her house. So it's not because you have another Internet provider.
It not enough that it’s xfinity internet. It has to be “your” xfinity internet. Use your daughter’s credentials when on her network and I think you may be in for a pleasant surprise.

If you need to be on your home network, does anyone know how to use a VPN to emulate your home xfinity network for this to work? I am a novice at that.

Comcast considers iPads, iPhones and to a lesser degree, MacBooks to be “mobility” devices. They work on any internet connection with some restrictions. Apparently Comcast sees the ATV as a “non mobility” device and have locked it down tighter. They are very aware I t is a direct threat to the income they receive from monthly cable box rental fees.

“So how come my Roku worked?” You ask. I can only offer speculation:

The app has been a free beta for years. Perhaps the ATV version is the next step toward a final release for which they will charge a fee, or more likely fees, to use. This could explain why the release took so long. One way or another they’re going to get their money.

A VPN won’t do anything to beat the Comcast authentications required. The app essentially turns the ATV into a Comcast box that must be authenticated with the user’s Comcast credentials on the user’s Comcast network.

The good news is Comcast doesn’t count the TV data against your internet cap. It treats the data the same as if it we’re going through a cable box.

I’ve been using the app for a few hours. The interface is significantly better than my Xfinity box. It sounds like this is the “new”interface that all Xfinity will have soon. I do have questions for people using the app.
Is the video quality Better OR worse than the Xfinity box? The box is very hit or miss on my 4K tv. It can get very pixelated and annoying. But I’ve noticed the quality may be worse in the app. I watch a lot of football so this is worrisome.
How is the audio? I have 5.1 surround but have always had issues with Comcast and 5.1.

Finally, what happened to recently watched channels? That SHOULD be on the Home Screen!!! Otherwise it’s super annoying to search every time for the channels I usually watch

See this post about app video quality improvement.

My Roku in my tcl would only connect and play stream app when on my home network. This was over a year ago

Enabling the filter for favorites just shows what channels you selected as favorites. Nice simple way to minimize the number of channels shown in the TV listing. :)
I get that but I like how on my Samsung Xfinity Beta app it shows this:

Thats similar to a browsing history. Once you have picked all your favorites which probably isn't that much, you can quickly navigate to a particular ch, not step backwards to the left on the Samsung screen to go though your recent history. IMHO at first it seem like X1 might be easier to still use, now it looks like I could easily use the app in its place. Now the question is do I even need a DVR X1 still, or is the 20 hour DVR also cloud based?
