Why do folks insist upon change when what we have works? Change for the sake of change accomplishes nothing.
No change for the sake of complacency accomplishes no progress.

If this is what works for you then you'd be just fine with say, iOS 4 or iOS 3 right? Oh, but wait. Apple made changes!

What you are really objecting to is not change, but customization. The same old boring layout works for you so therefore it should just work for everyone else.

I don’t need, nor do I have any desire for it to be a fashion icon.
Neither do I. But I do want it to look the way I want it to look and not the way Apple decides for me.

Getting my device to look the way I want while getting rid of all that WHITE in iOS 7 and above is the major reason I jailbreak. God knows Apple will never allow me to do this.

Row and rows of icons is dated. I want widgets and a scrollable doc for staters.

I love the current homescreen design. It realy tells you everything you have under one place. I was using my mom's phone the other day and it's a pain to find what you're looking for.

The iOS UI is in my opinion the epitome of interface design.

I won't argue with that.

I just wonder why anyone bothers with wallpaper. You can't see it behind the wall of icons that 'everything you have under one place' presents.

Or maybe I'm looking at that wrong and the wall of icons IS the wallpaper people want.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic. You do get to see what's behind the icons. And yes, the icons as a whole do play a role in blending with the background.

It's kind of like a nice wood table. Even when set, you partially get to see and feel the wood underneath the dishes and other elements that sit on the table.

I was indeed employing the element of sarcasm.

People are all different. But I find that those who follow the wall of icons look generally choose wallpaper that does not lend itself to blending.

You use a wood table as the example, so I will run with that. I have seen tabletops that use pictures, memorabilia and a bunch of other stuff that you're supposed to look at. Place settings cover it all up so you have to move things around if you want to see what's underneath.

How many iPhone screencaps have you seen here on MR that show the wall of icons covering up personal photos of the user and/or their family?

How many with logos or sports legends or other types of wallpaper where something in the wallpaper is meant to be the focus. Unlike a wood grain, or a gradient, or a solid color those kinds of wallpapers don't blend. They require moving icons out of the way so you can see what's underneath.

I'm sure there's a reason for covering up wallpaper like that with a wall of icons, but for me it's pointless.

I run into this when I need to do something our both of my daughter's devices. I have to hunt and hunt to find what I'm looking for.

Two more Android features I'd like to see are one the ability to delay sending texts for a few seconds after hitting "send" and the ability to stop the text during the delay.

Also would it kill Apple to have a numbers row on the top of the keyboard?

Even Google's keyboard for iPhones doesn't have the number row. Leads me to believe that Apple has a fixed height for the space a keyboard occupies and that extra row simply can't fit.

So you’re asking Apple to change what makes the iPhone the iPhone. Its defining characteristic. This would be like Apple dumping the menu bar on the Mac. It’s iconic and it’s not going to change beyond the occasional fresh paint job ala iOS 7.

While I don’t care for everything about iOS, I am satisfied overall, in it meeting my needs and wants with its integrated
Ecosystem. The arrangement of icons is not even on my list of importance.

The iPhone is a tool that works very well for me. I don’t need, nor do I have any desire for it to be a fashion icon.
Which phone isn't a tool? They all are but some of them give you options. And the arrangement of the icons doesn't make it a fashion icon, it makes it easier to use. My hand and fingers are on the bottom of the phone when I hold it, never on top, there's no functional reason for the icon to stick to the top left by default. Allowing you to move the icons anywhere you wish would make a huge functional improvement.

Yah, I know - if it works why change it, not perfect but you can adjust... If people thought like that, we'd still be in the stone age.

The Reachability feature solves the issue of people not being able to reach top icons with one hand.

You and the OP have known about Apple not opening up the OS for customization. And knowing that, you and others have continued to buy. Thus the complaint rings hollow with me.

It’s not Apples job to make sure it keeps the OP entertained.

I have to go to another "feature" just to reach the icons better? Especially one as poorly implemented (especially on the X). THAT rings hollow to me.

What is "entertaining" about reaching icons easier? It more functional for sure though.

And people buy phones for a vast variety of reasons. Not all options out there check all boxes, it's okay to desire for more especially what the OP is talking about already exists in every other device and it is implemented perfectly.
