We have..
1. faulty anodizing.. should have used Teflon coating
2. noise cancellation causing vertigo
3. unstable wifi
4. battery life not to spec (varies from carrier)
5. ridiculously high data usage
6. gorilla glass acting like a chimpanzee
7. black bars on most apps making tall screen worthless.
8. obvious quality control problems at Apple
9. no dock
10. Apple Beta Maps
11. I'm missing something
This is a professional device.. at least that's what we all thought. I still love it but these are real problems that we pay a premium for.
I really think you should wait to receive the phone before you comment on it. However, I will take a stab at this:
1) My black phone looks great - no marks at all. I always protect mine with a clear skin like Ghost Armor, and I did the same with this one. However, if it does get scuffed up, I shall survive.
2) Oh my. Moving on...
3) My wifi has been rock solid, just like it was with my 4S.
4) Battery life. Mine has been better than it was with the 4S. I have noticed that my 4S, now that my daughter has it, is eating up battery. So, we made some tweaks to the settings and we'll see how it goes. Since the 4S has iOS 6 on it, I assume that any battery life issues have more to do with that than with the phone itself. In fact, doesn't this happen after every major iOS upgrade? And doesn't Apple release an update a few weeks later that fixes it? I'm not worried.
5) My data usage has been fine - maybe a little more than the 4S, but honestly, I'm having the hardest time putting the phone down - so I'm constantly on it. I expect that to level off with time. Also, I have unlimited, so I'm not as freaked out about high usage as others might be. I do think that a 0.1 update will also address this issue as well as battery life.
6) I have no idea what you are talking about here.
7) The screen isn't the least bit worthless. It is gorgeous, in fact, and on the black phone in particular, I forget that there are black bars at all. As apps update, this too shall pass.
8) ANY product that is manufactured in the multiple millions is going to have a certain percentage of devices with problems. Most of them are quite minor, and the only reason it seems like there are so many is because people freak out on the internet instead of just doing what they'd do about any other problem with any other product - take it back.
9) I have never used a dock with my phone (or my iPad) so this is not an issue for me. However, for those who do use them, solutions will be along soon, either by 3rd party manufacture, or by purchasing an adaptor.
10) Apple Maps works great for me, but I recognize that isn't true for everyone. I do think the fussing about the 3D and satellite view is a bit over the top - that's icing on the cake. Turn by turn works beautifully for a lot of people, and I've been neglecting my dedicated Garmin Nuvi since I got the iPhone 5. However, for those who are having issues with Maps, there are free apps that will tide them over until Maps is improved (and I believe it will improve rapidly) or until Google's app is ready. This is not the end of the world.
11) Yes, you are missing the phone that you are complaining about. It's usually more sensible to try a product before you decide you don't like it.
I don't really care if you like the iPhone 5 or not. It really doesn't affect me one way or another. I hope you like it, but if you don't, I hope that rather than go into a rant here, you'll just take it back and get a phone you like better.
