Based on the NHTSA data you could probably give a % likelihood of death. I mean, if you're going 60 into a brick wall it's not so good. 20 into a brick wall you're probably still alive ;)

If the chances of you being alive are less than 50% and you click "I'm OK" it should play a little song or something celebrating the fact that you're still alive :)

It could upload to 'The Cloud" and be like iTunes Genius and start to learn the stats!

Wow what an attention for my app, I'm thrilled!

To answer some of your questions;
@Omahajim: I'm located in Amsterdam, Netherlands and wanted a spot in the world that most would recognize... I guess New York is about 3.5k miles away :)
@Christf10: The GPS won't work in the subways or tunnels. The app will also have a hard time locating when you get out of the tunnel, but it will catch up. As long as your stop is not at the other end of the tunnel, you will be fine. Otherwise set the range to wake you just before the tunnel, hmmm.
@Walnuts: the GPS does use a lot of battery. You can however lock the iPhone to turn of the screen, iNap will still wake you. 2.1 update also does wonders for your battery (my personal experience, I've tested it all extensively) – We have implemented an alarm to wake you when your battery goes dead in the 1.1 update, out soon.

this is a great idea. and with the radius you can set around to get an alarm, you can plan for tunnels/subway systems. just make sure the iphone is tucked safely away before nodding off!!:D

iSteal

maybe someone can now develop an app that send a notification that someone in close proximity is napping with iNap, and pocket their phones... like taking candy from a baby...

edit...just read developers comments. Really love to see developers move to the iPhone, but NYC was pbbly a bad decision as a demo graphic.

Uhh...subways are underground, as are commuter rail trains when they enter NYC, and therefore do not work with GPS. If you set your alarm to go off at grand central, regardless of what train you're on, you'll never get an alarm. The tracks are underground.

Very confusing decision to make this app.
FAIL

In New York maybe....there are however tons of transit systems that are above ground where this app would work brilliantly.

Not quite sure what you are confused about.

I agree that it's a clever idea. While I generally don't sleep on my commute, I do read and I have on occassion been so engrossed in a book that I've missed my stop. So an alarm would be nice, especially considering my commute can be about 45 mins and varies depending on how heavy the rush hour is.

But this program simply won't work for me in the DC area. I get absolutely no reception underground. I barely get any when I am inside a building and not near a window. Just the other day, I was stuck in my parking garage at work without my keycard - I couldn't get in and I wasn't able to call anyone with my cellphone because I had "No Signal".

If I had a Verizon phone, I'd have no trouble at all. I love my iPhone but I am very disappointed with AT&T.

This is a brilliant idea. I love it, and it makes me wish I had a 3G more than anything else, even though I wouldn't use it all that often. It's just so dang cool!

Yes. I revised my post. I looked at the app, saw New York pictured. I live in NYC...and us New Yorkers tend to think there's nothing outside of this city.

Character flaws. 16 million of them. :)

Ha, still a good point e-coli! I used NYC partly because I'll be studying at NYU next semester, should use another city as an example.

Brilliant idea.

I'm cursed with the ability to fall asleep WAY too easily -- on moving vehicles, even in loud movie theatres. (My boss literally just caught me napping at my desk... oops.)

When I used to take the bus home from school, I used to always fall asleep and wake up again JUST as I'm either about to get to my stop or, worse, just past it. Something like this would have been immensely handy back then.

This is an app that I needed! I'm buying it right now.

I'm really impressed by the app innovation that is appearing for the iPhone. Having been involved with Palm devices for many years, I really liked having all the apps available for that but now having GPS available adds a whole new dimension :)

FYI Having New York pictured helped me decide to get this! I commute into NYC by train from Connecticut (1 hour ride) and I sometimes fall asleep on my way home in the evenings.

No worries! I travel from Vancouver to NYC often just to be around those character flaws.

:)

Well done on thinking of it first mate - that's brilliant!
You have earned every $ of what you're about to rake in :)

I think this is a great idea for an app, and for 99 cents you really can't go wrong. My brother would love a program like this, now he just needs an iPhone. ;) :)

i still think it is a great idea. requires GPS so my iPod touch is out, but it is a great example of ingenuity for use of the iPhone technology.
my dad takes the metro 1.5hrs into chicago every day. it is above ground so this app would work and he always sleeps, both to and from work. fortunately for him he is the last stop both directions. ;)
