I really hope the slate looks darker than that in person. If not, Apple's images are very deceiving. I love my white 4S but went back to black because it looked so sleek. It looks like more of a two-tone here. If it's too light, I might have to switch to white.

How would you go about switching?

Agreed. I like Apple's pic that makes the back look black. But if in person it really looks like the above pics that looks gray I may have to switch to white myself.

Looks better here:

in apples ads, the black looks amazing. the metal looks very dark.

in this persons hand, it looks much different. a much grayer metal. the white is the standout, in these photos.

i've been really torn. i love the black on apples website. but i'm afraid of getting little scratches that show up bright silver. but now that i've seen these pictures, i'm a fair bit more certain that white is the better choice.

anyone else feeling that way? i could still be swayed...

Better how? More scratch resistant? Tough to say. More shatter resistant? High doubtful.

My perception is that the ceramic glass is ceramic material. And the pigmented glass is glass material that's been mix with color.

So yeah, I'm guessing the ceramic is more scratch resistant. And more robust maybe ? It could be a problem like the microphone on ipad 3g vs wifi, where the 3g ipad has weaker mic ? Hopefully i'm wrong about the glass, cause right now the black seems sleek and professional

Hopefully we'll know more when the phone arrived in lots of people hands.

I personally like the black because of the transition to the screen...it just looks so seamless. You don't get the black border around the screen that is visible on the white. Also, the black bars on old apps to compensate for the bigger screen will just camouflage with the rest of the phone and won't look too obvious

white, though, does look shnazzy...Win win for either

Exactly regarding the black border

There were 17 polls asking what color and they all unanimously proved black was the people's choice. What a turn around...

What's the link to the refurb site?

Wow. I'm really disappointed. The images on Apple's website make the "slate" look much darker than it actually is. There's too much of a contrast between the aluminum and the black glass at the top and bottom of the back of the phone. It doesn't look good. I kind of wish I had gotten white.

For the people concerned about the aluminum on the black being lighter, it'll all depend on the lighting. Slashgear's photos are pretty nice.

Hmm...I wonder if the images on Apple's website are legit or have been modified at all. The black phone on Apple's website looks sexy as hell. The photos where it looks more of a light gray...not so much. Glad I got white.

Well sorta, glass ceramic is used in glass stove tops wich are somewhat prone to scratches. In all honesty though, the differences between the two are probably negligible.

Great shot of the black border around the white screen, you don't see it on the black phone

This is the best photo I've seen of how nice and stealthy the black looks next to the 4s

I normally like the white iPhones too (although the only iPhone I have is a black 3G)

But I do have to say, the iPhone 5 is like a stealth fighter jet or a phone batman would use, pretty cool lookin ;)

I think I'd get a black if I could get it unlocked since I live between two countries and oh yea, if I could afford it lol...

Glad I got the white. Also good luck with the fingerprints on the black aluminum.

I have OCD (as you can tell regarding the black border observation), but fingerprints on the aluminum? Really?

:D

Originally, I preferred the black based on Apple's photos. However, after seeing these photos, as well as others across the internet, I much prefer the white. It looks much more uniform and sleeker. I don't like the two-tone version in the black as depicted in these photos.
