I have OCD (as you can tell regarding the black border observation), but fingerprints on the aluminum? Really?

:D

Yes really, every work with Aluminum? Getting prints off it isn't as easy as glass. Even the review in Engadget makes not of it.

...but we will say that the black surface seems to suck up fingerprints that are difficult to clean

This was the closest I ever came to buying the white iPhone. The white looks stunning. I wouldn't have regret buying either color.

My point was just that I couldn't care less about fingerprints on the back of a phone, I will have a slim case on anyways.

Gotcha!

Not going with a case so the black would annoy me. That and all the scuffs that will show up making it look like a $20 Chinese POS. People are already stroking out about it, a few threads exist, stick around.

The one worry I have with the white color is the dirt/lint that gets trapped between the home button and edges of the glass/plastic. You'll be able to easily see it with white. Anyone with a white iphone currently notice this?

Yes. Especially around the home button. It's one if the reasons I'm going back to black with the 5.

I'll get the white version this time. Less visible finger prints, won't be able to see hairline scratches as easily and that aluminum back will match my macbook pro. It's DAMN sexy.

I was going to get white until I saw how sleek the black is. It's better to get black to stand out more from the many 4/4S around (the white iP5 still looks the same as the white 4/4S from most angles). I'll get the iPhone 5S in white next year as the newness factor will be gone by then.

I still can't decide which one looks better.

Looks like the black one will show sweaty hand marks on the aluminium, thank goodness I'm not one of those people that sweat over everything :)

The white iPhone, while pleasing to the eye, never really caught my attention enough to purchase it over the black. When I got my 4S I was still very "anti" white iPhone...but then a few months later a few close friends had the white I found myself semi envious of how pretty they were.

When it came time to preorder the iPhone 5...I still went black. This new design, without the metal edge, has me VERY excited for the stealth look of the phone.

Can't wait for friday!

I have to say that the white looks much better than I thought it would after seeing those photos. I'm not regretting picking black all that much, but I might be singing a different tune in a few months if it starts showing wear and tear.

But I always see white iPhones in store and think they look gorgeous. I know if I had chosen white I would be staring longingly at the black right now. I pretty much think both phones look fantastic.

So we'll see how well this anodized aluminum holds up. I'm planning on getting the SPG Ultra Thin Air when it comes out, so hopefully that protects me enough.

Yes! Totally in the same boat. I used to admire my friends' white iPhones, but it wasn't really until I got my white iPad 3 (and LOVED it) that I seriously considered getting a white iPhone 5…but I thought the raw aluminum would look odd with it. Boy was I wrong.

Still, I ordered black and I can't really say I'm disappointed with my choice. I think it still looks a lot better. Hopefully it doesn't damage as easily as we all fear.

I'm leaning towards the white right now... And from apple site :

The back of iPhone 5 is made of anodized 6000 series aluminum — the same material used in Apple notebooks — with inlays along the top and bottom made of ceramic glass (on the white and silver model) or pigmented glass (on the black and slate model).

The white use ceramic glass ? Is it better than pigmented glass ? Very keen to find out.

Ceramic for its natural color vs painted glass.

I am worried about the "silver scratches" that have been brought up in converstation here...but I treat my iPhone like a new born child...so I am not SUPER concerend nor do I regret my color choice just yet!

You all have one month to exchange the color if you bought from Apple at no additional charge or fee you know..

Glad I bought white. Black looks great (always have gotten black) but there's something about the white that appeals more to me this time around.

me too. have always went black but this time around i chose white

"Ditching the glass back and reducing the thickness of the glass panel on the front has affected the design of the metal band around the edge of the iPhone. It is now chamfered and while that looks pretty, we've already noticed that on the black model the edge has started to wear, revealing the shiny silver aluminium metal underneath the "slate" coloured coating and, indeed, we've witnessed it on two separate models, ruling out a fluke manufacturing error.

These small scuffs will catch the light and make the phone look visibly worn. We suspect that it won't be as noticeable on the white model because the metal edging is silver, so that's worth bearing in mind when you come to order your colour choice."

i thought about that when i ordered. glad i chose white

What I've never liked about the white is that there is a "halo" of dark color around the edges of the screen. It's not perfectly white around that edge. Makes it look dirty and less crisp. Also I find that I like the screen being framed by black.

That said, the back and edges of the white one do look quite nice.

I bought a black one, but the white looks awesome. In my opinion the best looking white one yet, interested to see how my black one looks in person.

I really hope the slate looks darker than that in person. If not, Apple's images are very deceiving. I love my white 4S but went back to black because it looked so sleek. It looks like more of a two-tone here. If it's too light, I might have to switch to white.

I agree, my phone better be black not grey.
