does anybody know if the AT&T iPhone 3g unlimited plan will continue if I buy the 4S?
I don't plan to change my current plan at all, just upgrade the iPhone.
Also by any chance the mobile hotspot would be included on that if I request? I notice that is free for 2gig data plan or higher.
Thanks

i was playing around with the iP4 on Apple and ATT. Apple let me keep the unlimited data but I would lose the 1500 text plan. Att let me keep the text plan but it didn't seem like I could keep the unlimited data by ordering online (those last two words might be key).

That seems odd AT&T would do that. Well, I am ordering online and tomorrow I'll call to make sure my unlimited stays in place, if not I cancel it at Apple and buy at AT&T later.

I feel sorry for you Yanks paying such outrageous prices. In the UK I pay £10/month (~$15) for as many calls, texts and data that I need. Even though I had to buy the iPhone 4 unsubsidised, I am massively ahead of any of these plans.

What UK provider are you with?

Hey Malcolm, I thought I had a decent plan on the old O2 simplicity: £20 for 600 minutes, 1200 TXT and true Unlimited data. Can you get it cheaper than that?
Thanks
Eric

A lot less people in finland and a lot less infrastructure to build out. Perhaps I'm jealous in some ways, but there's trade offs

Come on. That's ********. The cost of infrastructure has to be considered relative to the DENSITY of the population, i.e., number of people per square kilometer. It happens that the US has more than DOUBLE density of that of Finland (33.7 vs 16). So by all means, it should be CHEAPER to roll out infrastructure in the US.

In Denmark, population density is much higher (129/km2). But here, pay-by-usage prices are dirt cheap.

dam,

sorry guys but in the US of A you get completely ripped off.

mine too :D

AT&T's pricing is absolutely disgusting;

$125 for only 12gb of data versus Sprint's $10 for unlimited?

What kind of idiot would chose AT&T over Sprint where both are available?

Some one like me who would never go to Sprint after having to deal with their ****** coverage.

Never had a problem understanding people on cellphones unless they were on Sprint.

I mean I know I don't use my phone much as a phone, but it still has to basically function like one. If no one can understand me then it really doesn't do even the basic phone functions, does it?

Anyways, I have unlimited grandfathered until the iPhone goes 4G and AT&T insists it is a seperate plan and I can't use my old plan on the new phone. And even then depending on the iPhone, I might just go with the previous model and at least delay having to lose my unlimited.

I'm on a loyalty deal with my network, but even without that I'd only be paying £20 a month, same as you.

The problem with the US market is that it has seemingly deliberately been set up so that it is very hard to switch carrier, due to incompatible technologies. In most other countries where standards have been mandated by law, it is easy to just pop a sim from another carrier into your phone. This helps competition and keeps prices down.

Are you on some grandfathered plan? The lowest priced plans I was able to find started at £25/month for a paltry 100 minutes, 100 text, and 500MB on T-Mobile UK (I'm in the US but used to live in the UK and had one of their plans). Vodafone wanted £26 for 250MB. The top of the line plans from both were £62 and included a maximum 1GB data. I get the sense that people in the UK like to think they are getting such better deals, but in reality are paying very similar prices as we are in the US and getting less data.

No, it's not just him/her.

You could buy the iPhone 4S 16GB unlocked for £499 ($770) and then get a monthly sim only plan (no 24 month contracts required) from giffgaff for £20 ($31). This plan gives 800 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data. No personal hotspot but this is of no use to me anyway.

Over 2 years this arrangement would cost £979 ($1514). The nearest comparable plan from AT&T would set you back a whopping $5119 (£3317).

I appreciate that most people don't require 12GB of data but that's the closest you get to unlimited with AT&T. I also realise that AT&T offers personal hotspot and an extra 100 minutes but I'm not sure its worth the extra $3605 (£2336)!

Here's the fine print on that "unlimited data' from giffgaff:

Is unlimited really unlimited?
The answer is yes, we are unlimited for personal mobile use - but not for commercial and automated use. Mobile Internet allowances exclude PC use and tethering.

It's difficult to see how anyone gets to 12GB of data without tethering, so it's disingenuous to compare giffgaff to AT&T's most expensive data plan.

All the big boys in the UK (Voda, T-Mobile, o2) have gravitated toward 1GB caps or less.

According to AT&T and Verizon, 98% of users stay below 2GB, so it seems perfectly valid to me to compare AT&T, VZW, and Sprint to the main UK carriers to find ... the prices are fairly comparable.

This may have been mentioned previously but man do the US pay a lot for a mobile phone!!! Here in Australia, on a 24 month contract, I pay $59/month for unlimited messaging, ~700 minutes (equivalent - incoming minutes don't count), 2GB data, free hotspot, free 16GB iPhone 4.

You guys get ripped off big time!

I think the other funny thing is that, mobile phone plans in the US were cheaper than the rest of the world before the iPhone.

Now, they're super expensive compared to the rest of the world.

Low end contracts are not worth it, if you do not need a lot of call time or texts, best to go with none contract.

Several things to also take in to account, the prices shown on the web site for contract you can haggle in store, a returning customer may also get discounts.

On Three, a £35/month ($50) contract, £69 ($105) for the handset (was iPhone 4 16GB, no iPhone 4S plans released yet), you get unlimited data, 2,000 minutes and 5,000 texts. That's $1305 over 24 months.

That's more than double the minutes and half the price when compared to the USA. The network is also HSDPA+, no paying extra to use HSDPA+ if your handset supports it.

I do not need so many minutes, so I'm prepay, £499 for the handset and £15/month. Saves £100 over contract, and I'm free to move to a better deal or change operator. £10 of this £15 is for unlimited data.

LMAO 2500 for an iphone? People are actually crazy enough to pay that?

I actually think that 359€ is a reasonable price to buy the iP3Gs outright.

However, I think I'll go with a Samsung because of the 4G capabilities even though it's a little more expensive (450€).

700+€ for an iP4s is too much :(

I pay 15€ for 2GB 2000 SMS and 100 minutes call time.

Its not a fixed fee so you only pay when you run out (after a month if its not used up it costs extra) I usualy do about 1.5 month with this.

Thats in belgium, mobile vikings btw.

Hey you guys in the States really get stuffed on your contract prices don't you.

Average price for an Iphone in the UK is £35.00-£40.00 per month ($60.00) inclusive of 1gig or more of data plus free hotspots.

Wow! Highway robbery.

I'm in South Korea and here's what I pay for my iPhone 4.
300min/300 texts
Unlimited data...no throttling either
Hotspot included
$75 /month

My phone was free too. All you need to pay is the phone number activation fee which was $30. I got this waived as well.
Plus when I return to the states, they will unlock it for free.

I'm really dreading going back to the states and having to pay over $100 to less service that I have here.

Does anyone know if mobile hotspot is included with unlimited data (grand-fathered in) on Verizon?

People who are not locked into a grandfather plan should try sprint. Unlimited text and data ftw. Those charts are deceiving. First of all just about 80% of the people has some sort of company discount. I get 25% off with ups, no idea what the rest of you guys get, but I know its over 15%. Now to the plan comparions. The avg person will watch youtube etc. and that alone can put you over 2gb's.

Verizon
450 mins (who gets that?) 39.99. I guess you can get the $5 text, but I think I use over 250 text a month and the data lol 2 gigs for $30? I would get at least 5 gb's $50 dollars :( i'm at $109.99 a month to bad no one I know has verzion so I would have to treat this phone like an ipad and search the web/play angry birds...........

ATT
$450 mins + any mobile not that bad since everyone have cellphones. Data $45 for 4 gigs. Once again. I don't think anyone in this day of age can stay under 2 gigs. $20 unlimited text I guess its alright, but seriously this is the only option......... $104.99 a month :( the avg person will go for more mins and a higher data plan add another $40 dollars to that $145 is 5 dollars less then what I will pay for my wife and I sprint iPhone plan

Sprint
$79 450 mins oh well just add unlimited $109 is still better then the other two plans. lol

haha, get some non-nerd friends. I don't know anyone who goes over 2gb. Unless you stream all the time, you're hard pressed to go over that in a month.

Most non-nerd friends of mine end up being under 250mb/month
