God those prices make me sick. We get gouged in the US and it's disgusting.

Still grandfathered into AT&T unlimited data and have unlimited msg, mobile to mobile and data for $75 with my work discount. i can't complain too much, but I sure feel for folks that do not get a discount and have to pay that absurd price.

Unbelievable. How have these companies convinced us to pay that much money for data? Or to pay for incoming texts? "Free market" my ass

It is free market. They charge what the market will bear. If enough people would stop buying these phones with these over-priced plans, the carriers would lower their prices. But, people keep buying these things even after each price increase.

AT&T has 20 cent texts or $20/month for unlimited. People complained, but they still pay. How many called AT&T and told it to disable SMS/MMS?

The consumer does have the power, but only if the consumer is a united bunch.

I love Verizon, but I am grandfathered in to unlimited data.

I sincerely think that anyone getting the iPhone for the first time, or who does not have unlimited data should go with Sprint- unlimited data is what makes this phone. And data use is only increasing every day.

Gah... can't decide. Maybe this list is more for me than for you... but:

  • Have grandfathered AT&T unlimited plan (about $95 monthly)
  • But, AT&T has the worst coverage of the three in my area
  • Don't like the idea of not receiving calls when using the internet
  • Use history proves I could get away with downgrading to 2GB data plan with AT&T
  • But would only be saving $10 a month and losing unlimited
  • Or could switch to Sprint and save $15 a month

I don't think that the data prices are high enough. The cell companies need to make a big profit so they can provide us with superior service, upgrade their networks etc. I'd like to see them with a net profit of at least 25%.

I am firm believer that you need to put service/reception first. If everyone did that (even if it meant not owning an iPhone) then we'd say way less threads about bad reception. Its all a crapshoot beyond that. I always tell people to find out which carrier gives you the best coverage where you live/work (or if they're different then where you use the phone most) and then pick the lesser of the evils.

If you're not using that much data (as it sounds from your post)..you have to ask yourself how often will you really miss calls because you're browsing? And that doesn't include wifi time. $15/month = $180/year...maybe that will help sway you.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone Dark: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8J2)

Yeah, I only pay for outgoing calls here. And unlimited texting is about $4 USD per month.

need or want?

seeing the yearly cost makes you remember an old saying "do your really need it or do you just want it?"

Thank you for your reply... good points.

Speaking of luxury cars...

I hate when people talk about total lease cost over the the period of 4 years. You're paying monthly, not annually or bi-annually, or every 4 years, there's a difference.

Guess what, by the time you die, you will have spent about $600,000 in fine dining. Might as well buy yourself a nice house.

Some people's logic, I tell ya.
By the time I die, I'll probably have spent 20 years on the internet. I might as well...I don't have a decent punchline, sorry. :(
Ok, you get my point. :D

Just so you know. On CDMA (Verizon and Sprint) YOU CAN RECEIVE PHONE CALLS WHILE USING THE INTERNET. Your data connection is interrupted when the text or voice call comes in.

People who are not locked into a grandfather plan should try sprint. Unlimited text and data ftw. Those charts are deceiving. First of all just about 80% of the people has some sort of company discount. I get 25% off with ups, no idea what the rest of you guys get, but I know its over 15%. Now to the plan comparions. The avg person will watch youtube etc. and that alone can put you over 2gb's.

Verizon
450 mins (who gets that?) 39.99. I guess you can get the $5 text, but I think I use over 250 text a month and the data lol 2 gigs for $30? I would get at least 5 gb's $50 dollars :( i'm at $109.99 a month to bad no one I know has verzion so I would have to treat this phone like an ipad and search the web/play angry birds...........

ATT
$450 mins + any mobile not that bad since everyone have cellphones. Data $45 for 4 gigs. Once again. I don't think anyone in this day of age can stay under 2 gigs. $20 unlimited text I guess its alright, but seriously this is the only option......... $104.99 a month :( the avg person will go for more mins and a higher data plan add another $40 dollars to that $145 is 5 dollars less then what I will pay for my wife and I sprint iPhone plan

Sprint
$79 450 mins oh well just add unlimited $109 is still better then the other two plans. lol

I would like an iPhone, but I'm currently paying about $100 a year for an old pre-paid flip-phone. Hard to justify over $2K for a 2-year plan, even if I might use it more. Maybe someday...

Remember that you do receive calls when you are surfing. You just can't continue to surf while on the call.

Sprint

good thing that when Sprint starts to slow down they are going to get rid of the unlimited data because of all the traffic on their network

sprint iphone family plan sucks in hell, starting from $149 (129+10+10).
What a ****ing loser sprint will be!

Perhaps it's unreliable where you live, but where *I* live it is very reliable. Anytime I hear all these horror stories about AT&T they are 100% foreign to me. I guess I'm fortunate to live in a market where AT&T is beyond good. Sure, I have the occasional missed call, but I've yet to meet someone who doesn't, regardless of what network they're on.

So, given MY location and options, AT&T offers equally reliable service as Verizon but it also gives me greater speed and it allows me to use my iPhone to surf and talk. There's no logical reason why someone in my position would choose Verizon over AT&T. Maybe where you are Verizon is the best you can do.

So then, what was your initial point? Sure sounded like you were demeaning anyone elses choice of carrier. Or, is your identity tied into the coporate conglomerate that you choose to devote your entire existence to? Can you hear me now?
