Answer to you last question i still have a MAcbook Pro and a iPad,

Battery life is superior on the GS3 though its a fact.
You cannot loath android keyboards since there is so many of so many designs. Swiftkey 3 has some serious advantages. Use an iPad keyboard for 5 minutes and you will be sick of reach the top of the screen to stop auto correcting a word you dont want it to. like it or not choice is good, you can probably find a iOS keyboard on the play store.

Just so you know.

Dude they have unlocked Bootloaders and you can put any custom Rom on you wish. CM10 rocks! you can even load on vanilla android.

i think half the problem is that there is a lot of preconceived ideas about android which get propagated around forums and the press.

i know i was certainly a non believer until i jumped ship. the reason i jumped was 400 GBP in my bank to move. i moved for the money mostly on a deal i was offered and trade in on my old phone and a brand new S3 for free.

What i found was surprising and nothing like i had been led to believe.

i encourage people to give it a go. i loved my iphones but i cant live with Apples slow pace of change. it just doesnt suit me.

As for battery, we will see which is the winner as the GS3 is much newer so maybe the iPhone5 will also improve on this. But I admit that the battery is bad on the iPhone. Never worked with an Android that improved on it but havent used the GS3 extensively either.

Basically it boils down to that Samsung makes decent stuff (the iPhone is after all basically a Samsung product) but Googles software is crap ;) keyboard is always so inprecise that I mistype all the time. As for auto-correct I always turn it off. Typing on my iPad is a bliss :)

Glad I purchased the iPhone 4S last year and didn't wait. I have no need for a longer iPhone. The current size is perfect. Where am I putting that thing? I'm a guy. I don't carry a purse. I've never envied those large Droid phones I've seen people cart around.

Is an extra 8mm really going to not fit in your pocket? You won't even notice the extra length. Just the thinness.

I have no interest in doing that sir, not one little bit at all. There should not be anything on top of the OS period to begin with. It's awesome tech nerds can do that but I just could give a sh** less.

I'm simply amazed by the number of people who blindly want to just buy this because it's new. Apple could put an apple logo on a turd and people would buy it.

I've been a long time advocate of apple products and technology, often saying their designs are the deciding factor for me to buy it, but should the new iPhone look like those leaks then there will be many disappointed people.

Apple are becoming lazy and the sheer fanboism showed here just goes to show how indoctrinated people are about apple products.

The iPhone 4 was a radical new design, but it's old now. Samsung is the biggest threat to Apple and if Apple think that just stretching the current design and adding a cheap two-tone look is an example of redesign then they're sorely mistaken.

The sad thing is that people will line up and buy this thing, swoon over it and rant about how amazing it is.

It will probably sell very well but it is alarming that apple are resting on the good will earned by being innovative.

Why are we looking for a 'radical' redesign anyway? Let's just wait and see, plus the operating system is what most people like about the iPhone anyway.

I am looking forward to the new functionality and options that most people aren't aware of yet.

Umm...what? I understand Samsung supplies Apple with some components but where did you get that from?

----------

Personally, it's 50/50 in terms of hardware and software. It takes two to tango...

Yes I meant that a lot of components are bought from Samsung. Yes, and in my opinion Android is just a cheaper, more plastic (in most cases) iPhone with a crappy OS :)

But taste is different for everyone. If you are happy go for it. For me I stick with Apple.

I don't see short battery life in most Android phones could be considered as an innovation at least.

Before you start slamming on Android for battery life, you might want to wait and see how these new iPhones with larger screens, faster processors and LTE work in the real world. If they can match my RAZR MAXX I'd be impressed.

Apple is like the wife and Android is the young secretary at work and a lot of people are having trouble saying no ;)

I'm still waiting to see what the 5 is like before I decide to switch to Android or not. Chances are I won't but we'll see.

I want a larger screen, but one that's wider so websites are easier to read. Going into landscape mode you lose a lot of content. It's like looking in between blinds.

This. Trying to read on the phone without glasses on can be a nightmare. The new size just doesn't make sense to me.

Ok, find me a phone on the market today with absolutely no bezel.

Reply when you find one like this:

Hopefully the iPhone 5 look like this and not that piece of useless cheap dog **** that we been seeing thru leaks... If not galaxy s3 suddenly looks like the best option.

If apple put out the iPhone 4 long they deserves to get trashed by Samsung

Perhaps next years iPhone will be equipped with a contemporary sized display. That's all I require before giving it consideration. An iPhone with a 4.5 to 4.8" display would suite me ideally. At first I thought I might find the 4.8" that my Galaxy S III features, might be too large. Yet from the first use until now, I simply couldn't be happier. It makes me want an iPhone with that size even more.

I think you need to get used to this screen size in the iPhone - if they decide to introduce a wider screen later they will also have to add height... or bother developers with a change of dimensions one more time - I don't see that happening within the next 2 or 3 years.

It will HAVE to happen and soon, if not iPhone is done.
Everyone else upgrade their products, apple is no different

Let's see:
  • New screen with several new technologies possible including in-cell, IGZO and gorilla glass 2. (new technologies "possible?" Very vague).
  • New housing with full metal back. 1.2mm thinner. Check
  • New battery with a different chemistry. What new chemistry? Now you're just making stuff up. And the size difference is negligible.
  • LTE "Possible"
  • First non refresh iOS device with 32nm processor. All rumors say more than just an A5 die shrink. Whatever
  • New dock connector. This is a benefit?
  • New headphone jack location. This is a benefit?
  • FaceTime camera moved. This is a benefit?
  • Thinner top and bottom bezels. Still chuck-style
  • New smaller SIM standard. This is a benefit?
  • Possible NFC. "Possibly"
  • Possible 1GB RAM. "Possibly"

This is the most drastic generational change since it launched. I don't know what else you guys are expecting, and neither do you. Everyone fails to come up with an answer as to what would constitute a drastic change except a huge screen. Well, that's a user preference thing. Not everyone is going to be receptive to a 4.7" screen coming from a 3.5" screen so get over that idea.
Way too many "possibles" in this list. Let me bring it down to earth a bit from your Apple induced euphoria (bold red).

Looks like a pretty damn weak list to me.

Here's my list of things that will matter to me day-to-day. (without the Kool-Aid):

  • Taller screen (though that's half the improvement it should be)
  • Aluminum anodized back. 'bout dang time. Nice improvement over glass
  • Thinner and probably lighter (having lost the glass back)

OS 6 seems a dud and I'm not getting a woody over new processor or any other internals when the 4 I currently have is plenty fast already.

I'm not saying this isn't a nice upgrade, because it is. You guys creaming your jeans over it, though, just embarrasses you.

How about:

  • Solar Panel Charging - Either behind the screen or around the back glass panel - not possible on the leaked unibody design.
  • Induction Charging - OTA syncing. No need for ports - Would be nice no?
  • Possible NFC? it better have it.

Anyway, the iPhone 5 is just over hyped. Get a SGSIII, Amazing phone. Apple better step up if they want to keep the questionable crwon they have.

Cheers!
And the Galaxy S III isn't overhyped? LOFL!

Agreed, plus cars are made to last for 10 years anyway. Apple expects people to get new iPhone every 2.
As does every other smartphone manufacturer out there.

Dock connector may be used to charge it and possibly sync apps or additional features. The camera is used to FaceTime.

It's not that hard to believe and the extra space is to lay out the channel buttons, volume controls, etc. the screen could change depending on which device you select ( Apple TV, your TV, A/V Rec, etc)

Because the remote will totally have a Dock Connector and a camera, right?

----------

The only thing that hasn't changed about the iPhone going from 4S to 5 is the basic case design. I wouldn't call the numerous internal hardware changes very "innovative", but I'm pretty much satisfied with the entire hardware design, interior and exterior, of the iPhone 4 and 4S. They're just carefully improving it. Apple could really only innovate with software now, and I think they still do.

So "sheep" will "blindly" buy the iPhone 5 if they are: people who want LTE, people who want a faster phone, people who want the new Dock Connector (which will be the new standard), people who want a thinner phone, people who want a 4" screen, people who want the audio jack on the bottom, and/or people who want a supposedly redesigned antenna. I really only care about the audio jack being on the bottom, so I'm not buying just for that one change.

If someone reads my other comment about how they are no longer innovating with the iPhone and won't for a while, let me revise that and say that I was talking only about the hardware. They're only taking evolutionary steps now.

So many people have said they would switch to a Samsung S3. To me this type of statement is all BS. Yes, the design of the phone may influence your decision but it's the internals and the OS+Apps that make a smartphone in my opinion.

I have used many Android devices before, and yes the Samsung S3 looks great on the outside, but what about the software and it's OS?

My main reason for leaving all my Android devices behind was the slow rate that Apps would become compatible with my device. Same for firmware updates too. Some Android companies are slow when it comes to upgrading to the latest OS Build. This is also the reason I stopped using my Android based tablet and bought an iPad.

That might me true if this was 2 years ago - Google is catching up whether you like it or not. The S3 is great, admittedly the iPhone have a killer design but the internals doesn't match the S3 - and I can't think of a single app (other than stock IOS apps) that doesn't have an Android counterpart, plus some tools the iPhone will never ever see.

I like the iPhone and it's still my main phone - but that fact that you can connect a screen, keyboard and mouse to the S3 and use it as a fully functional remote desktop computer is just awesome.

Yes, but Apple has done basically nothing of substance since the 4. Other smartphones are actually releasing real updated phones. Not lame half ass updates like this new rumored steamy turd. But its an Apple turd, so its gonna be great:apple:

It's gonna be great phone ppl! The only thing I wonder is if apple could have keep the same dimensions of the 4s and just stretch the screen up and down by making the bezel bars on top (where speaker is)and bottom(home button is) thinner so that there was more room for a taller screen without actually making the phone bigger,..... That would have been sweet ......

Hate to say but the Samsung s3 interface works the same as the iPhone 4s. Android does give more options hands down. No one can argue that. If you dont like the mail program change it. If you don't like the keyboard change it. With apple you cant do this. Only problem with android is the different apps such as email are not as intuitive as many of apples original apps. The original apple mail and text apps are far superior IMO than any of the android apps on today's market. The push notifications are also superior and no concern for drain on battery life. With droid you definitely have to worry about push notifications and apps running for optimal battery life performance.

If they would just stretch the screen put on the iPhone 4s to fill in the black bezel area they would make most people happy think. No one really cares for it being just stretched

miniroll32 - Thanks for educating the ignorant.

Well im holding my iphone right now and no i dont hold the bezel. My hand is behind the phone and I am holding the edges even in landscape. When you pick up and use the htc one x for example you can critique it on a few things but you never say "i wish it had a larger bezel do you?????????" its ok to critisize apple sometimes you know and still be a fan. Educating the ignorant?

You assume you know when they will begin shipping the thing. Perhaps I didn't explain enough, my apologies. It is possible they will begin ramping up production after the announcement, and ship in a month or something. I'm no conspiracy theorist or anything, and I believe this will be the next iPhone, but like I said, the only way to keep an iPhone secret is to push off production till the announcement.

I see what your saying. However, I don't think Tim Cook and Apple are that bothered by the leaks.. Considering the other phones out there like the S3, this keeps the iPhone under the radar.. It wouldn't be good if we heard and saw absolutely nothing. Parts are going to leak, Tim said a bold statement, yet at the same time, we don't know about the other products whatsoever.. They believe a September 12 announcement 9 days later following it's release, everything should be good to go by then.

If this ends up being the next iphone, which it will, many including myself will be very disappointed. Why do they feel they don't have to change anything drastically? And yes it needs it.

clearly you don't understand apple. they don't make drastic changes just for the sake of changing things. they refine, improve, evolve. one need only look at the OS X, Mac and iPod lines to confirm this. it works. well.
