Favorite Contacts Widget

Any chance of seeing a widget for favorites contacts (with call, email and sms options). This is the key reason that I jailbreak the phone.

and how would you rate that experience/solution?

Suboptimal. I probably won't keep so many widgets activated. Think I'll stick to what's truly useful (looking forward to that Hue widget for controlling my lights, for example).

Have you seen the new quick contact picker in the app switcher?

Double press the home button, and your Favourite Contacts appear at the top, tap on one to choose method of contact. You can customise who appears up there from the Favourites tab of the phone app.

If you want a good step tracking/fitness app that has widget support, you should check out StepTracker. I'm currently waiting for Apple to approve of the update with the iOS 8 features including the notification center widget.

Cheatsheet

Another one is my app Cheatsheet, which lets you write down things you tend to forget (hotel rooms, license plates, ID numbers) and then quickly look them up in Notification Center. Not the world's most complicated app, but I find it useful and it's free. Please check it out. :)

Guys, if you know of other iOS 8 apps with cool widgets, feel free to email me at juli@macrumors.com and I'll add them to the list. Same with third-party keyboards and apps that use Touch ID (we'll be making that list next).

Thanks for compiling the list.

It would be great if Macrumors could list apps such as Dropbox and Evernote as "Free with In-App Purchases" rather than just "Free."

I refuse to put Yahoo! Weather back on my phone. Hurry up Weather Channel!

Why?

I switched to Yahoo! Weather from TWC, and have no plans to go back. I like the interface better, plus, temps from TWC are weirdly off by several degrees in my neighborhood (I live in an area where temps vary by as much as 10* within a short distance), which is why I was also disappointed when Apple switched their weather data source from Yahoo! to TWC.

I'm thrilled I can add Yahoo! Weather to the notification center.

These widgets can only be viewed from the Notification Center?

This has potential to get unruly very fast.

It would be great if the widgets could be smaller like say, live tiles on WP. I think the widgets would be more efficient that way. I hope we don't have to wait until iOS 9 or 10 to see that..

This reminds me of Windows Phone's home screen in a way. No tiles, but endless scrolling down the page.
