Odd that he's mocking a Pro-level video-editing system on national TV in front of audiences who have likely never even heard of it, much less used it, much less care. But it did make for some great comedy. I certainly enjoyed it.

Just goes to show how well Apple is doing when the best that can be done is to pick a video editor (of all things!) they make and run with that.

I'm sure he storyboarded the idea on his iPad.

Couldn't have worded it better myself! Just who IS this Conan idiot anyway?

Right. They offered the previous version of iMovie for a long time as a download for anyone who bought the completely reworked iMovie.

But seriously, if Final Cut X can't do the tasks that were listed, what good is the software? Why choose FCX over iMovie?

Actually, that makes Apple sound nicer than they really were. AFTER millions of people screamed, bitched, moaned, blew up apple's forums and tired up their phone lines and sent lots of hate mail after iMovie was changed... months later they made the old version of iMovie available as a download. However, it's wasn't like they had flashing lights directing people to it. Sites like this made it obvious, but people were only finding out when they called to complain and were directed to it. I still hate iMovie.

The New Final Cut is far superior to iMovie. It's more similar to the consumer version of Final Cut, which was stripped down and aimed at enthusiasts that wanted more than iMove, but not needed professional software. I think of Apple would have marketed this as a Final Cut Express product to start, there wouldn't be such a backlash.

Though... considering the price is only $100 more than what Final Cut Express used to go for, I don't know that this is the big deal people make it out to be if it is going to see updates.

Not that iMovie really bounced back. They did put some functionality back in it. A little.

IIRC it was only a few days after iLife '08 dropped that iMovie 6 HD was available as a free download ot iLife '08 users.
