take it one step even further....each key could be an OLED screen and can change to whatever you are doing. Using Dvoralk versus QWERTY? When you are using FCP, it will show the shortcuts on the keys, when in emoji's it would show what they are on the keys.....playing a piano? the keys change. That would be interesting.

It seems that a lot of people in this thread really like this. But I'm struggling to realize why. I don't really see the benefit of having information displayed on the keyboard. What would really be the benefit of having information placed not the keyboard? I'm already looking at the screen so put stuff there.

While it looks great and all, I don't really see a killer feature in the OS that really would utilize it yet; unless there's something in this new macOS or new OS X whatever it's going to be called.

No hardware ESC key, no thanks. Plus the new low travel keyboard is not really meant for constant typing becauel thes pain after few hours of use. :(

Lmao, I'm imagining someone crying in pain as they try to finish an email.
Myself and a few other coworkers type code all on the rMBs and we still have all of our fingers in tact. The MBPs may even have more travel.

It's not just information, it's keys that change on the context of the app. It's like the removal of the physical keyboards on the first iPhone. I can picture this being an awesome feature, let's see how they implement it.

Concept image is quite cool. The concept artist did a good job with the dark colours for the strip. We will see if Apple goes down that route.

Would be more cool if more keys are OLED!

Maybe they will surprise us with a complete virtual keyboard - no physical keys. Maybe they've found a way for tactile feedback for each individual virtual key. That would be dope.

I had one of these on a Lenovo and hated it. The thing never worked right. I was constantly trying to override the app or the system simply to shut down a program. I'll wait until they figure out this is a Bad Idea before getting another MBP.

Assuming this is true, that's the kind of innovation I like to see from Apple!
Unfortunately it's not innovation. The idea existed years ago. The only difference is that only the function keys are being converted to touch.

Acer experimented with such concept, the Acer Iconia, converting the whole keyboard with a touch screen display. Only difference is that there is no tactile feedback.

Not sure if this concept is patented.

Once again...another greatest features of all time: inability to upgrade...you got soldering feature.
I wonder what hd they will put in.

That seems awesome! But as always, Apple will deliver it half baked, so the good stuff will come in 2/3 years...
and at that time, the good stuff will come in another 2/3 years.

For developers to really take advantage of this, Apple needs to also update their external keyboards to have this.

As for people complaining about no power button - why does the power button have to be a button?

Make it so simply opening the laptop when it's off turns it on.

Not sure how you could allow it to be hard-rebootable... Maybe some key combination is picked up as a signal to do that.

My biggest question would be: how do I force quit an application when it has hijacked the cursor?
