BTW apple is for sure not the manufacturer of this piece of cable, so their price decisions are relevant only for their trading partners.

Apple isn't manufacturing these cables... they are likely made by Foxcon or some other parts vendor. I have no reason to doubt these parts are being sourced by the same people who makes these for apple. Either officially or some 3rd shift surplus part.

No because it comes with 2 hard drives and includes all the necessary cables. You are still able to switch the drive, you just don't have to worry about buying the extra cable since you already have it.

I was asking, because I opened the thing up, and beneath the first hdd, I didn't see anything that resembled a second SATA-connection (yes, I'm sure, I purchases a MM server).

Oh its there it has to be. Besides they sell the part, its called a lower hard drive flex cable. You should be able to see both the upper and lower flex cable plugged into the logic board right at the back of the fan.

I just got one. Wanted to wait for a faster SSD.

You won't find any SSD drive faster than the OWC Mercury Extreme, they have 6gb/s throughput and in recent test posted here on Mac Rumors the speed of these drives is incredible.

Unfortunately for me I have the older OWC Mercury Extreme with the 3gb/s throughput, but I am happy with it. I will eventually upgrade!

...!

That's exactly the SSD I had in mind! Unfortunatley, it's out of stock anywhere in the UK.

One more thing. I'm planning on selling the factory SSD. Can anyone give me a ballpark on the price?

Has anyone figured out who manufactures the 922-9560 Bottom Hard Drive Flex Cable? I'd really like to go right to the source, and see about buying in bulk.

So if I get

1. 922-9560 Bottom Hard Drive Flex Cable Apple Part

2. And this sata-esata cable from Amazon.com

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002P6W8E8/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1HJEWBB3KBTH2JR04YWA&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

Run the cable outside the Macmini and I connect external esata drives to the mac mini 2011.

you would not need the bottom cable the top one would also work. but you have the wrong sata cable to use. it won't pass power.

i wonder how long will it take for someone to try the OWC mercury pro 6gbs 240gb ssd and a seagate scorpio blue 1 tb 5400rpm...

im aiming for that but it's going to take me a month or so to get it all going.

anyone here ordered the bottom cable from VIS uk ? ordered mine on the 1st of august now. still waiting.

Same position here Dusky600, ordered on the 1st, nothing since then. They did say 12 working days though, and we arent even half way through that so I'm not too worried.

yeah i know about the 12 days, just checking if someone else ordered in the same time frame has me so has to compare shipping dates when they arrive.

thanks DazWorrall

yeahhhh, riiiight.... macpartsonline dot crap is now charging $39 for the adapter and a whooping $39 for the slowest shipping option to France...
$39 to ship a 1 oz piece of plastic in a s h i t t y (US and censorship.....) envelope??? RIP OFF!!

So order from here instead. Shipping is cheaper and you don't run the risk of import VAT and customs handling fees, either. All of these online sellers look to be getting stock from the same source, it seems.

Got my cable in this morning, just installed it and I am up and running. 240GB SSD and 750gb Seagate 7200 RPM. Not to mention my USB backup drive.

Since I have previously installed the SSD, I cracked this baby open and had the 2nd hard drive installed in about 10 minutes. LOVE IT!

that looks sexy...

how did you reinstall lion ? through the online install thing ? did it work well ?

Yeah, I didn't have to reinstall Lion this time, but when I initially installed the SSD I did the Internet Recovery. It downloaded for me in about 30 minutes with my 15MB download and then about another 20 minutes to actually install. I was up and running. I of course had to install all my software, most of which I had purchased from the Mac Store, so it was just a matter of launching the App store, putting in my username and password. It should be all my downloads and away I went.

I love the Apple ecosystem. I know some hate it because they feel it is closed, but it just doesn't get any easier than this and after all isn't that the point?

But top one need the internal drive.

My understanding as I will be connecting a external Raid enclosure from OWC that is already powered there is no need for a sata power cable and the above cable should work.
