Still getting Unavailable on the iPad app and the iPhone app here.
What phone are you trying to get? I'm showing availability (not on the 19th) for Plus models on my iPad. Did you try shutting down the app and trying again. Click pre-order now, not "Upgrade eligibility".
If that is the date you got it was most likely based on availability of that color/size combo when you ordered. Delivery vs. Pick up wouldn't change that.
When I ordered I only got 9/19 or unavailable. None of them showed as available at a later date.
Trying to get a 6+ from Apple directly. I've tried restarting the app with no luck.
I actually had it for a second then gone again. Had the app open on a 6+ in Space Gray 16GB selected which said Unavailable, then I look down and it changed to 09/19...so I went to select 64GB as that's the one I really wanted and back to Unavailable for all models! Damn you Apple!
Somehow managed to get through via the iPad version of the Apple Store app. Let me get the version I wanted (iPhone 6, 64GB, Space Gray, AT&T) but hiccuped slightly when I went to add AppleCare+ - the buy button wasn't working there at first.
Eventually got through that and have successfully ordered. WHEW.

I will definitely get the Applecare + as I did for my iPhone 5, but you have up to 30 days from purchase to get it. I think I want to take my 14 days to make sure the Plus is right for me. Otherwise it is going back for a 6. At that point I can pick up the Applecare +. I also didn't want to do any add-ons during the transaction to get it over before anything error'd out.
Got an order in for a 64 black 6 att through apple. App kept crashing and browser never once worked.
Got two orders in on att for the same model for my parents. Optimistic att got them I saw two different auths from them for each in succession on my card
No email yet on those though it is likely delayed. Was tough to upgrade second line on att of three but got it done!

Both website and Apple Store app didn't show up til 12:18, ordered by 12:22. Confirmation 12:23. Delivery set launch day 9/19.
Gets smoother every year (or 2) for me, preparation is key.

They've got Pat Sajak and Vanna White spinning the Availability Wheel of Misfortune in a Cupertino basement. They've got limited availability so they basically went with a lottery system. But Apple Store App or carrier sites are the only option since the Apple Store website is still down 80+ minutes later.

Really hope I don't regret the iPhone 6 Plus!
After 47 minutes, I finally got my order placed through the iPhone app. 64gb Space Gray AT&T. Delivers 9/19. Paid full price though the only things I'm confused about in the confirmation email is that it shows a 2 year contract and $40 upgrade fee. I assume neither holds true since I paid full retail.
Also placed an order through AT&T though I haven't received an email from them for the order yet. I will be canceling it as soon as I can as I didn't even want to place the order but you weren't given an option once you put your CC info in, the order just went through and I have a hold on my debit card for $1 twice.

White/Silver 64GB iPhone 6 Plus for Verizon. Ordered directly from Verizon after the whole fiasco cleared up. Total time, about 1 hour. It said deliver by 9/19. If that slips I will be pissed!
