Just tried and it says to enter sim card code...what is that?
Thats the number of the sim card. I did not even take my sim card out, the number was listed on my order receipt that came in the package.

Worked for me. Xferred my upgrade to the other line when i ordered last week. Called today after getting the phone and a rep helped me activate the phone on my line. Still have unlimited data. Everything working fine. Phone is blemish free as well as far as I can tell. I didn't even have to really wait for a rep to come on the line either.
I stand corrected. This just worked for me over the phone. I didnt open the box before i did it. It was crazy easy. When i went through the activation it used the dumbphone number but once it actually acyivated it went to the UDP number. Easy peasy.
Would the process work the same way if you're not using an upgrade associated with your account at all? IE if you got an upgrade from a friend who had one and was willing to give it to you so you could keep your UDP?
Ok it seemed to take. It said initially it wasn't compatable with my plan but then let me select it anyway. I'm doing a restore now and then will see but it looked like it may have service....fingers crossed.
I did it online by the way.

how did you do it online if you dont mind me asking?? like once you got the phone you just went online and switched it?
Better keep checking your account. Everyone else on this thread is saying that Verizon is going to take away your UDP if you do a transfer upgrade to another line. I can't do mine until October, so hopefully things will have settled down by then with some success stories on exactly what one can or can't do.
I have learned one thing though....no matter what...
DO NOT TURN ON YOUR iPHONE 5 UNTIL YOU CONTACT VERIZON

so you didn't even buy the 5 on the dummy line? You just transferred the upgrade and bought it under the Unlimited line and kept unlimited? That seems like the easiest way to do it, but also the riskiest.

sorry, but I don't follow. You must have left out some steps.
I went to activate/switch device. Then I clicked on the line I want to to have the iphone 5 on. Not the one I upgraded it on. Then you type in the info it asks you for and its pretty self explanatory after that. Like I said, I did not turn on the phone before it did this.
What's the best way to keep your unlimited data if you transferred your upgrade from your UDP line to a dumb phone line?
Is this not possible? I see so many methods, but not sure if those methods would work with this.
alright so from what i gather is that you go online, go to activate or switch device, chose your current line and then activate the iphone 5 on that current line?
yes select the phone line that you want the iPhone 5 on, not the line that was eligible for the upgrade.
Type in the MEID from the back of the box,
Type in the SIM Card IICID from your receipt when prompted.
Pick a new Unlimited Data Plan or whatever plan you are using
Done

RECAP TIME:
It seems like the step of activating on the dumb line FIRST is what is messing the most people up. Apparently this is unnecessary. The most success seems to be to just go online before you turn on the IP5 and then do the "activate or swap device" option in the menu to activate the IP5 on your UDP line, allowing you to keep the unlimited. This should make it so that your SIM doesn't get messed up AND there is no downtime on the dumbphone line.
If people who are doing it this way can keep checking in with their status as they do it this way, that would be great. I am on vacation and my iP5 is sitting at home (it just got delivered and my gf signed for it), so once I get back I should be able to know the best way
Thanks to everyone on the front lines!
is it possible to take the phone I preordered on my line, go ahead and switch it/activate it on the dumbphone line, and select 2 GB/month for the data plan on that line, but then just with the phone right back to my actual line?
