This process has been a complete failure by Verizon so far. Not knowing the correct way to switch a line, then no sims available if they do it wrong....what a complete waste of time. Had I known this, there would have been no point in preordering since they assured me it was a simple process multiple times. Now I'll have a nice shiny iPhone 5 sitting in a box...perfect guys, just perfect.

After an hour I finally got the 5 on my UDP. Had to order the 5 on my dummy line and activate it, then had to get a new sim for my UDP. Verizon stores only have very few nano sims, mine only had 3 -.-

I'm with you I'm starring at the box and don't know what I should do at this point. Waiting for someones success story without having to go to Verizon hopefully.

OMG I am so frustrated, you have no idea.

Verizon reps on the phone claim that I cannot transfer the iPhone 5 into my old UDP line without losing the UDP. I told them all I was doing was a device swap.

I bought a new iPhone 5 with the 2GB option ($9.99 line + $30).
My UDP line has an iPhone 4S.

All I want to do is swap the devices, I'm not even cancelling the 2GB plan on the dumbphone line, because someone is going to use that iPhone 4S.

I have a new SIM ready to go.

Can someone please confirm that this is working, and what argument should I use??

At this point I frankly don't care if I have to switch to the share everything plan, it would actually be cheaper anyway. I just want my phone to work.

From all the reading and all the problems I'm glad I just downgraded from Unlimited Data to 2GB instead of trying to swap all this stuff around.

Not exactly success...more like none of their phones will work at this point. Can't activate the new one and killed the old one. Seriously Verizon?

yes, i'm still confused. seems to be YMMV. and many people who were successful had VZW employees do it for them. anyway, guess i'll lurk through the weekend and read more comments.

From what I've gathered, we either have to wait 24 hours for the SIM card to activate on a different line (has anyone confirmed this?) or get a new one. So if the VZW store doesn't have any, can we just waltz into an Apple store and ask a VZW rep in there for one? :( I'm a tad confused with all these stories bouncing around.

Correct, but the issue seems to be much broader than just the SIM card. After you get the new SIM card, there are issues in keeping your unlimited data with the new phone even it it comes from another line...

I had to go get a new sim card as well and after 2 stores didn't have any in stock one finally did. They threw the new sim card in there for me and I currently have unlimited data on the iPhone 5.

Had to get a new sim since I had to activate it on the extra line first. I don't know if there's a way around this, but if your store has an extra sim it's really easy from there.

Just spent 40 minutes with the Verizon rep on the phone. They were not able to put the iPhone 5 under my UDP line. They said that I have the $64.95 plan which is unlimited global data, and that there is no way to put it on the iPhone 5.

I am very VERY frustrated.

so has anyone tried not turning the thing on and calling verizon yet?

This worked for me...The Verizon lady worked her magic. She had to refresh their screen, attach the sim to the line it was supposed to be on, I turned the phone on, activated it even though it said it was the wrong line, but then when I restored from my iP4 and restarted, it was activated on the correct line.

She said that she had tried three others before me, but it didn't work. For some reason it worked for me. She was very knowledgeable and she said the problem was that Apple affiliated the sim to whatever line you used to upgrade.

Do you know her direct number? lol

This is promising. IT CAN BE DONE OVER THE PHONE WITH NO NEW SIM!

I just got back from my Verizon store and they told me the same exact thing. He stated that wait 24 hours and it will be reset. He was reading word for word what Verizon Corp told them in a email. Now it might be true as I doubt we were at the same store.

My store also says they got an email from corporate that you have to wait 24 hours to do an "ESN change" on the existing sim. So that is an option.

She claimed they wont even give out micro sims because of that, but I might try going in anyway later today.

how much is the dummy line costing you? Did you have a family plan?

Totally illegal. They told everyone to preorder and they could do this, now they change their story. Bait and switch if I ever heard it.

why not just have the transfer upgrade option available like on every other phone? Why do they have to be difficult. I have a sim on hold at a store 30 minutes away, if I get there and they turn around and refuse to give it to me, hell is going to fall on that store.

This is beyond ridiculous and I would have never preordered had I known the hoops I would have to jump to make MY phone work.

So it seems I got it to work without getting a new sim card and doing it over the phone. I did not turn on the iPhone 5. The rep told me to go on the website and go to switch a device. I did it through there and I had the option to keep unlimited data. It worked just fine. I called up Verizon after to make sure I still had unlimited and the dummy phone line had no data plan on it and was all confirmed.

Worked for me. Xferred my upgrade to the other line when i ordered last week. Called today after getting the phone and a rep helped me activate the phone on my line. Still have unlimited data. Everything working fine. Phone is blemish free as well as far as I can tell. I didn't even have to really wait for a rep to come on the line either.

If you don't mind, would you be able to go through the process step by step as there is a bunch of mis-information floating around and so it would be very helpful for all of us waiting to go through or are currently going through this process?

Considering that the "confirmed loophole" thread is now 22 pages deep with various questions about what if scenarios, it's get's harder and harder to follow to see if anybody has successfully completed the loophole switch. With that being said, please answer some questions as this will help out the community.

1. How did you complete the loophole switch? i.e. on-line, on the phone, in apple store, in vz store?
2. Do you or don't you need a new SIM card?
3. Did you pre-order or buy from store?
4. If preorder, did you activate the phone/turn on the phone when you got it or did you wait until instructed to by vz/apple rep?
5. What was the actual process? i.e. Did you activate on dumb phone line first (as was originally thought to be the case) and then add smallest data plan? Wait a little bit and then and remove the ip5 and re-activate the dumb phone and remove the data pln and then move the ip5 to the line with the UDP?

If I'm missing any other questions that people are commonly asking, please feel free to add.

On a side note, if you ordered the black ip5, confirm if you are experiencing scuff-gate.
