Okay guys, here's my situation: I currently have an iPhone 5 on my unlimited line. I also have a dumb phone line that I upgraded to the 5S and it is on its way from Apple. When I get the 5S, I should activate it on my dumb phone line. Then I should be able to go on Verizon's website and reactivate my dumb phone on that line. Next, shouldn't I be able to just take the Sim card out of my iPhone 5 and put it into the 5S to activate it on my unlimited line?

Yes, you have the steps correct, except you may not be be able to just stick the old SIM in the new phone since you're technically deactivating that SIM when you put the dumb phone back.

But it's the Sim from my iPhone 5, which would still be activated on my unlimited line. So by switching that sim to the new iPhone 5S, it should activate it on my unlimited line, I believe. I'm not talking about using the sim that came with my new iPhone 5 S, I'm talking about using the Sim from my iPhone 5 which is still activated on my unlimited line and just transferring it over to the 5S after I put the dumb phone back on its line. ???

Yes. I took the same steps, except I started out with a brand new line with a new iPhone, activated a dumb phone on the new line, and then activated the new iPhone on my older unlimited plan. All on My Verizon website

If you have an LTE SIM on your unlimited line to began with (say you had android or windows LTE unlimited line).

Than you don't need to "activate" the new iPhone 5S anymore (once you complete the first few steps with originally activating it on tiered data line first).

Cause you can just sim swap LTE sim (from unlimited line) to iPhone 5S.

Yes that is correct. If you already have active LTE sim from iPhone 5 Verizon. Than after activating the iphone 5S on the tiered data line. All you have to do is switch out the sim cards.

You should be good to go.

Deactivate the SIM card that came with the phone and put phone line back to flip phone or tiered data.

Go to verizon store and ask for new sim and put new sim on your unlimited line and put in new iPhone 5s

I requested another online. They are sending it to me express should be here Friday morning. From all the horror stories I've read on MR the last week id rather not go to the store. I had to select a plan first. It did allow me to keep unlimited data if anybody was wondering.

I called Verizon and they told me, No matter what line you transfer your eligible upgrade to, rather it’s on an active line or dummy line. Once the phone gets activated it will automatically take away the unlimited data on the original line that had the eligible upgrade…. Ugh, what I typed sounds confusing. lol. Is anyone else getting told the same thing, or did I have a Verizon Rep mess with me?

Ok, so:
  1. Activate 5s on dumb phone line
  2. Wait a little while, make sure it's receiving calls on the dumb phone line number
  3. Reactivate the dumb phone on the dumb phone line
  4. Make sure the dumb phone number is receiving calls on the dumb phone
  5. Activate the 5s (with the same SIM that was used to activate it on the dumb phone line) on the unlimited line
  6. Rejoice in unlimited LTE?

And this can all be done through the online activation tool?

That's exactly what I did EXCEPT... When I went to reactivate the dumb phone back, it forced me to choose a data plan, the cheapest being $10. I called in and said I wanted the dumb phone back with NO data plan. It took one minute to reactivate. The rep asked why and I told her " grandma" did not like the 5s. As soon as I hung up I pulled the sim from the 5 and popped it in the 5s. Restored through iTunes and I was in business. I sold the 5 and put the 5s's original sim in a drawer.

U want to believe verizon rep who has their phones calls monitored so they have to say the company line?

Or believe thousands of postings on android central macrumors Howard forums all confirming this loophole? Think about it.

Ok, I have two unlimited lines with eligible upgrades. Is there a limit to how many times I could use an eligible transfer to my one dummy line?
I’ll explain.
Go online and transfer an eligible upgrade to my dummy line.
Go to a Verizon wireless store and buy a 5s under the dummy line. Activate it. Then De-activate it. Put my SIM card from my iPhone 5 into the 5s, activate it and all is good. I keep my unlimited?

The same day, Transfer my other unlimited upgrade to the SAME dummy line that I used before; buy another 5s under the dummy line. Activate it. Then De-activate it. Have Verizon put a new SIM in the 5s and activate it on my unlimited plan and all is good?

Think that will work?

I are much safer ordering online and doing entire process via transfer online.

No. Cannot same day do another transfer to flip line. Wait a few days to do another transfer.

But that's how it works.

Every post mentions transferring it to a dumb line, just to be clear for my peace of mind, does it matter if the 2nd line is another data line.

I have 1 unlimited line and 2 lines at 2GB. If I transfer the unlimited upgrade to one of the 2GB lines and upgrade/swap cards like what's listed will there be any problems doing it this way?

Alright, I successfully activated the 5s on the dumb phone line and then I successfully reactivated the old dumb phone back to the dumb phone line. I also ran into the problem that evilrt encountered where the minimum data plan when reactivating the dumb phone was $10/mo. I just called into customer service and they were able to activate the dumb phone back with no data plan. So now the real fun begins. I have an unused 5s now with a SIM that I was told by the customer service rep is now tied to my dumb phone line's number. Is this true? Do I need to go in and get a new SIM to activate on my unlimited data line? Or can I use the SIM that came with the 5s and that was activated on the dumb phone line already?

What's currently being used on your unlimited line ? An lte device ? If so then I believe you can just use that sim in the 5s. If not than you would definitely need a new sim and not the one that came with the 5s

Alright, it's a 4S so I'll go in tomorrow and get a new LTE SIM. I assume when getting the new SIM I won't have a problem keeping the unlimited data, right?

I just did this loophole.

My situation was basically my line has unlimited data and my moms line is on a 2 Gb plan, my line was the only line with an upgrade. So I transferred the upgrade to hers, and when the phone came in I called verizon activation support and they did the rest.

She said we didn't need to activate her line and could go straight to activating it on my line keeping my unlimited data plan.

I would be cautious of that. As far as I know and read it should have been activated on her line first

I was weary of that as we'll but she assured me I wouldn't lose it and as of right now I'm still on unlimited.

[Confirmed] Verizon Unlimited Loophole

Verizon reps have and will always lie to get you off of unlimited any way they can. That's why everyone advises to not use reps in any part of the process to upgrade and keep your unlimited plan. It will change more than likely next billing cycle. If you haven't already I would not activate it on your line at first. But on your moms than activate your moms old phone back on the line. Then your iPhone 5s will be free to be put on your line.

Edit. I just read you did it already. I would then return the phone canceling the upgrade because you have 14 days to cancel and you can respectively hassle them to put back your unlimited/keep it from changing.

I think dealing with the reps in store is what people are talking about for the most part. The people over the phone and online have always seemed up front. Even in some of the guides I've read they note they probably aren't even sure if you need to upgrade the tiered line first but it's just a safety measure taken. I'll keep an eye on my data plan in any case.

They were referring to any rep that's why they always state that this whole loophole can be done online and no need to involve anyone at all. Yes a minority of people aren't sure but no one has reported back that they have done it that way and are definite that they will keep/have kept their unlimited plan. And why take that chance anyway ? It's just one extra simple step to achieve what you want.

Try activating the 5s online without a new sim first. Someone else did that with no problems. Dumb phone went back to dumb phone and 5s was fine on unlimited.

Well I'm reporting as of right now I still have unlimited without having to upgrade the dummy line first.

I'll try contacting the online support to make sure my data plan stays the same at the end of the month.

Hey everyone, just thought I'd update everyone as to the conclusion of my story. I went into a Verizon store today and got a new SIM for $10. The rep there activated the SIM into my unlimited line and I'm good to go now. It still shows unlimited and everything is activated. Thanks for all your help!!!

Great to hear that it worked out but they charged you for a SIM card? Was this corporate or third-party Verizon store? I went to a third-party Verizon store a few weeks back and got a SIM card for free for a Galaxy Nexus.

All in all, not bad to get this process finished up for $10, though.
