Agreed! We need to start something w/Apple...
It's sad to see that the adapter won't be included with the iPhone 5. It would make sense for them to include the adapter in the box of the iPhone 5 and make it an optional purchase for an iPod Nano or iPod Touch. Just like how the Power Adapter comes with the iPhone and not with the iPod Nano or iPod Touch. I mean we're not paying $49 for a nano, these phones are costing us a few hundred bucks, not to count the wireless plans that come with them.
If the adapter was only $9.99 I don't think this would be as big of an issue. But $29 for a plastic adapter and $39 for the same thing with a bit of a cable attached is quite expensive. I was hoping that since Apple's MagSafe 2 adapter was only $9.99 that they had finally decided to stop with suck expensive adapters. Then again the Magsafe Adapter is a tiny piece of metal with five contacts, and this adapter is a tad more complex.
Either way I'd love it if it were cheaper. Let's hope 3rd party manufactures are already working on their own version of Lightning cables & adapters. They'll probably be cheaper too. I can't wait for Monoprice.com to make some.
Agreed! I live in the US and never saw a screen that one was included. We need to start something with Apple and DEMAND at the VERY LEAST to know their cost for the 30-pin adapter and 30-pin cable!! One should be included with the iPhone 5 for the first six-twelve months while third parties catch up to the new design!!! (don't put them in the box, duh, include it separately with a note that this is to accommodate early adopters until such and such date). We need to DEMAND this from a company that has billions in profits they don't know what to do with!!!
Don't get me wrong, Apple is a company that knows how to do business and I respect them, in a bad economy they did not dip with the rest

, however, the pricing for these adapters is quite extreme, to the point of gouging when you look at what price most people are paying for the device itself IMO ($30-40 on top of $200-400 is too much to expect, especially when we'll still need to get auto chargers, cases, etc., etc.). And there is no way they are not making at least 50% profit, more likely 80% or more on these adapters.
If you look at the first link at the bottom you will see that, last quarter, Apple reported they have close to $8 BILLION in cash reserve! They can afford to include the damn adapter!!!

NOTE: It will take SOME TIME for other manufacturers to make adapters that will work properly. The 30-pin connector had digital and analog signals going through it. The 8-pin is proprietary digital and requires DAC (digital-analog converters) to work at all with other devices, and, even then, what it works with is limited. Fortunately, the one plus is that we will be able to plug right into USB devices that will be compatible.
NOTE 2: For those in other countries that have that text that shows the adapter is included, legally they HAVE to include it, they can't just say "oh that was a mistake".
(I just think they need to be reasonable about this, NO ONE wants to pay $30 for an adapter to connect to the device they already connect to, it does not cost anywhere near that, I guarantee you, they are only doing it because they can get away with it, so let us not let them get away with it!).
