Could folks on IUP just buy the next phone outright, have it delivered, then go to the store to make it right with IUP?

It definitely wasn't the smoothest. But think about it. We're asking a whole lot of Apple. We all want a new phone every year. We want it to be different. And better. Much better. We want them to deliver it to every single person on the same day. And we want to turn it on and it just freakin work! We don't want any issues. We don't want any hurdles. We want and NEED for it to be perfect dammit! :p

Each and every year iPhone launch day is probably the biggest product launch in the history of human civilization. Nothing compares at all to it's sheer size and effort required. I think they do a pretty good job at it.
We're not asking anything of Apple!

They're the creator of iPhone.
They're the ones that profit.
They've got years of experience.
They've got a full year to plan it.
They've got unlimited resources.

There's no excuse... They blew it!

I've already emailed Tim Cook about my October 4-10 ship date range. A free black leather case is on it's way to me.

I didn't ask for it. I want my phone, not a case, but I wasn't turning it down either.

Who came back to you with an offer of a free case and how long did that take??

Is there a big team who look after that mailbox?

They do it better than anyone else. Period. You are asking them to do it even better than that. You're expecting perfection when they already outshine every other competitor.

Just wondering but why don't you guys just ship it to your homes or have UPS hold it for pick-up? It cuts Apple and you'd be using the iPhone now - sent from my iPhone 7 Plus

Edit: NVM. I just remembered about the Yearly renewal fiasco. I feel for you. I'd be pissed.

Never expected perfection. Simply expect Apple to live up to _ their_ quality standards of the past. It's simple actually.

Also did you miss your pickup window?

Keep us updated, would love to hear if anything comes of your inquiry.

I didn't miss the pickup window. I was prompt. They were over 2 hours late.

I'm going back out tonight. They confirmed my phone is there. Im gonna make sure someone finds it for me.

I'm not a IUP member. I bought the phone outright. I tried to get it shipped to me but for some reason the system kept pushing me to buy it in store. So I did. Never again. Shipping is the only way to do these launches. Their stores are a mess. Or at least the Union Square store in SF.

I ordered a black 128gb iPhone 7+ about 2 minutes after midnight on the Apple store app. Successful transaction. Confirmed a pickup time of 10:30-11am at the Union Square Apple store.

This morning after reading reports that people were being turned away with no phone, I was skeptical if I should go at all.

Showed up at 10:30 with a huge line. Probably 500 people. Totally disorganized too. There were 3 lines but no one could tell me what the middle line was for.

Around 11:15am, I looked at my order and it had changed from "Pickup 10:30-11" to "Available September 27". WTF? So I grab some useless employee who finally finds my order and he says, "Oh you paid for it in full on the web, yeah you should be fine."

12:54pm and I get to the front, only to get another employee to pull my order and say, "You're one of the customers that doesn't have a phone." Nope, no phone for me until September 27th.

Thanks for the heads up, Apple!

Tl;dr I like to complain. Well, this is the first launch I was able to get a phone on launch day so for me it is the best one yet

you should have demanded a free case or something. I was told I could return an ipad air 2 in store that I bought online. got there and they said i couldnt, ended up getting a free smart case for it for the trouble

You got a free smart case for an item you were returning ?

Pretty sweet deal dude!

I'm honestly not worried. The fact that Apple gets phones to as many people as they do in as short amount of time as they do each year is impressive. I think this year might be a bit of struggle as it's the first year that Apple is having to manage outright purchases/new IUP people/IUP upgrades. It doesn't make any financial sense for them to produce a huge overstock prior to launch of every color/size/carrier configuration, so limited launch supply is always going to be there.

With that said, I would be pretty frustrated if I took time out of my morning to wait around and didn't leave with my product. Hopefully next year they will able able to better manage their inventory internally between the different upgrade/purchase options and ensure that any launch day appointments actually have a product associated with it.

At the end of the day I think doing the IUP is always going to be a bit of a mess right at launch since it requires you to actually physically show up, trade in your phone and restart the 24 month agreement. I signed up for it last year knowing that and as long as I get my phone within a few weeks, I'm pretty happy.

It seems every launch since she's been in position has not been great. Then again I don't have as long of a history with Apple launches as many people here, so I could be completely wrong.

Nah you're right

Nah you're right
Doesn't surprise me. The MacBook(2015) and Apple Watch launches were an absolute joke, almost as bad as this. Both of those were the first launches after she was put in position if I'm not mistaken. Isn't she on record saying she doesn't like people waiting in lines or walking in buying things, wants everything to be moved to a reserve and pickup system?

Well reading all these threads they can't even do the reserve system right! What a mess.

I've been on macrumors a long time, and a similarly-titled thread shows up for every single product launch. Someone should go and collect then all in one place.

That said... that was pretty messed up to confirm people and not have the product for them when they arrived.

Did you ask to speak with a manager when the second guy said that you wouldn't be getting your phone? I know they're turning away folks without a reservation or paid pick up but it seems to me if you've already paid, it should be there waiting for you.

You're a lot nicer then me. If I had to wait as long as I did, I better have a dang phone in my hand when I walk out.

I had a much worse time than this on iPhone 6 launch. Terrible crowd management, 1-2 arrests. Just god awful.

Sucks you didn't get the phone you wanted. Neither did I that day and I spent upwards of twelve hours at it lol. I did let my grievances be known to Apple though regarding the awful handling of the crowd.

"I didn't get the phone I wanted" --> worst launch in history!

"I did get the phone I wanted" --> WOW, best launch in history!

Useless post is useless.

Enlighten me. But there's no such thing as free shipping in the US?

I've bought many Apple products through their online store both Singapore and Australia during launch time and shipments always arrive on the launch date itself.

Not even once i had to line up or reserve on a specific store.

Four groups I see here with the same themes during launch week -

OCD folks - "Let's protect it with a condom! I don't want my bad breath on it!"

ADHD folks - "Just got it. I'm bored! What's next?" LOL @ Millennials. Looking for iPhone 8 now.

The only-judges-upgrades-based-on-appearance superficial folks - Looks the same! I want new design! A new design is so life changing for me! Want want want!

And the thread starters here. The self-entitled folks - What does patience mean? I want it NOW NOW NOW!

^ And all can overlap with one another.

Like having a launch day iPhone cures cancer. What's the difference getting it now or next month? Any special perks? Apple plans to sell this iPhone 7 series until 2019. Is three years up yet? Is getting an iPhone 7/7+ sooner instead of later supposed to help humanity or just your ego?

Self-entitlement is a b***h and they act upon it here. Whining won't change a thing or getting it sooner. No wonder Louis CK is the funniest man in comedy right now. Showing us brutals truths about the worst generation of people that ever walked the face of the Earth.

And all groups can fall under this label...

Congrats, Tim, on the funniest iPhone launch in history!
