Logistics and supply chain management is difficult. There are a million things that can go wrong anywhere along the chain, from insufficient parts to produce the phones to boxes being misplaced or improperly scanned sometime during delivery.
i feel like UPS dropped the ball more than Apple did, i don't understand why they use UPS over FedEx!

Four groups I see here with the same themes during launch week -

OCD folks - "Let's protect it with a condom! I don't want my bad breath on it!"

ADHD folks - "Just got it. I'm bored! What's next?" LOL @ Millennials. Looking for iPhone 8 now.

The only-judges-upgrades-based-on-appearance superficial folks - Looks the same! I want new design! A new design is so life changing for me! Want want want!

And the thread starters here. The self-entitled folks - What does patience mean? I want it NOW NOW NOW!

^ And all can overlap with one another.

Like having a launch day iPhone cures cancer. What's the difference getting it now or next month? Any special perks? Apple plans to sell this iPhone 7 series until 2019. Is three years up yet? Is getting an iPhone 7/7+ sooner instead of later supposed to help humanity or just your ego?

Self-entitlement is a b***h and they act upon it here. Whining won't change a thing or getting it sooner. No wonder Louis CK is the funniest man in comedy right now. Showing us brutals truths about the worst generation of people that ever walked the face of the Earth.

And all groups can fall under this label...

Congrats, Tim, on the funniest iPhone launch in history!

One of the many reasons i love and hate MR around launches, it seems like there's about 2% of people on here that's happy with the device and the other 98% will not stop bitching about everything!

Glad you got your phone and sorry OP had trouble with his.

14th and 74th are very disorganized, won't go back to those. 5th Avenue is still my preferred NYC store, though I might head down to WTC eventually.
Really can't wait to visit NYC again to check out the WTC store, just seems like it'd be a pretty cool location. 5th avenue store is my favorite out of anywhere in the country! Been in several times and they are always very organized and quick.

I ordered a black 128gb iPhone 7+ about 2 minutes after midnight on the Apple store app. Successful transaction. Confirmed a pickup time of 10:30-11am at the Union Square Apple store.

This morning after reading reports that people were being turned away with no phone, I was skeptical if I should go at all.

Showed up at 10:30 with a huge line. Probably 500 people. Totally disorganized too. There were 3 lines but no one could tell me what the middle line was for.

Around 11:15am, I looked at my order and it had changed from "Pickup 10:30-11" to "Available September 27". WTF? So I grab some useless employee who finally finds my order and he says, "Oh you paid for it in full on the web, yeah you should be fine."

12:54pm and I get to the front, only to get another employee to pull my order and say, "You're one of the customers that doesn't have a phone." Nope, no phone for me until September 27th.

Thanks for the heads up, Apple!

This is so typical of a post every year when one does not get what he wished for when he wanted it.

Hello welcome to every iPhone launch ever.

This should fall into the "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...." category. If you got lucky in the past then you should realize it was just that....luck.

This is why there are so many people like me that buy the iPhone a month or so after launch. Walk right in, pick the exact model we want, and off we go.

I hate to be that guy because I know people love their tech and want to be the first to get their hands on it but threads like these scream of overly entitled children having temper tantrums. The OP even said after reading reports online he/she was skeptical about even going....a momentary glimpse of common sense...

So I got my phone last night. Just confirms to me what a mess this launch was.

Here's a recap:

1. Ordered about 1 min after launch with a confirmation pickup time of 10:30-11.
2. Got in line at 10:30. 11:15am my phone went from "pickup at 10:30-11" to "Available September 27".
3. Employee looks up my order and tells me to continue waiting.
4. Waited 2 more hours. 1pm, "Sorry, no phone for you".
5. Went home called and chatted with Apple. After more than an hour, both confirm, yes the store definitely has your phone.
6. Went back to the employee that helped me, and 5 min later I had my phone. This was at 6:30pm.
7. I asked for a case, and they gave it to me. Very cool of them.

So, while I'm happy this is all over, I still think this launch was flawed. The IUP orders, the lawsuit, the adjusting inventory to help with that. Local carrier stores (at least here) had no inventory.

And on top of that, lots of people that preordered a pickup were turned away after waiting when the STORES HAD THEIR PHONES the whole time! Just a glitch in their system that told them they had the phones, then didn't, then did. What a mess!

The experience you've had is just unacceptable for a world class company like Apple.

Their are no excuses to justify the complete failure on Apple's part. If not for the cult like followers that are so submissive they'll take a beating... Apple wouldn't be the profitable powerhouse they are.

This continues to be the worst launch in recent times.

I've personally been involved with most every product launch Apple has conducted since the beginning, only their narcissistic self important culture finds their treatment of customers acceptable.

A very pathetic situation.

You got a free smart case for an item you were returning ?

Pretty sweet deal dude!

I should have stated more clearly, returning for exchange due to a dent in the casing. Well apparently you can't return items that were bought online to an Apple Store (so I was told) so they gave me a case free as the online chat I spoke to the night before said I could return in store.
