I have an Apple smart cover on my rMini. I have the WiFi+LTE model. The aluminum part of the back is completely flawless, but the plastic window for the cellular radio (that isn't on the WiFi model) is very scratched up. If you have the WiFi-only model I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I will also say that I think the smart cover absolutely sucks. As a stand, the three-fold thing is useless and not at all stable. I'd look for a third-party smart cover or case before buying the Apple one.

With every iPad i always entertain an Apple case, but balk at the cost and end up buying one at Best Buy and having them price match Amazon... Lol

I have used the Apple leather case on my iPads since they first came out and don't think they add much weight or bulk to the device. I tried a cover once but I was always worried about putting the iPad down where it might get scratched and also didn't like how cold the back felt in the winter. It's a shame to cover up such an elegant device, but I would be more upset if it got scratches. I would agree that neither the cover nor the case works very well as a stand.

So they don't leave the corners open? I've used iCarbon and Ghost Armor. Ghost Armor have these cutouts that leave some of the corners unprotected. ICarbon kind of had a slit that you fit together to cover the entire corner. Sounds like these are more like iCarbon.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going with a sticker and sleeve this time so I want something a bit more interesting than the clear ghost armor I have been using.

Thx again

No, the corners are open, but the skin fits over part of the curve, at least on the ipad 4, so that when you place the ipad on a hard surface, all of the ipad that touches it is covered. Nuvango haven't released the ipad air 2 skins yet so I can't say how it will work on the newer shape.

I've had my iPad Air in a Smart Cover for a year now and the back is flawless...not a scratch.

It's at home 99% of the time though but still

Then you aren't doing the tri-fold properly. Works great. Just used it again recently on my business trip watching House of Cards.
