Nope. If you look at the chart for the day, the stock was actually up a little more than $1 until the news broke. Then it went negative.

you people really have no clue what your talking about, i follow apple stock daily it can fluctuate 10-15 up or down at any given time .3 dollars is nothing!
Stock not affected by this news. get a grip

CR is the gold standard of reviews if you think McDonald's is the gold standard of dining. Their review was flawed in so many ways that I don't even know where to begin. They have no clue about how to test a phone, NONE. How can CR come out and say iPhone has terrible reception when Anand's review a week earlier said iPhone has BETTER reception than any iPhone yet? Anand had a in-depth review with repeatable real-world tests a week earlier (even covering different "grip strengths"), where was the media coverage of that? Now CR comes in a week late with their "isolation chamber" tests. Gee, it's sure great to know how my phone behaves in an isolation chamber, it's about as relevant as knowing my signal strength in a black hole.

CR needs to go back to reviewing toothpaste and hot dogs, they are out of their league on this one.

Doesn't matter if their review was flawed or not.

Think so? They have a reputation to uphold as well. I'll bet they hired Phd engineers to prepare the tests. Please don't be another love-apple-because-its-apple person. This hurts macrumors forums....

CR has a reputation for accurate reviews of ketchup and donuts. They can hire all the PhD's they want, the fact is they got scooped by Anand who had a 100x better review a week earlier.

CR is completely irrelevant, they have no reason to exist. Read Anand's review, read CR's review, then tell me who knows what they are talking about and who rushed to finish the article after working late to review the latest Kirspy Kremes.

I'd say that the Anandtech report and CR report had very similar conclusions.

The reception is better, but only if you aren't holding the phone.

Both found that compared to prior iPhone models (and third party devices) the iPhone 4 suffers from significant signal loss when held.

Other sites (such as Engadget) have done similar testing and reached the same conclusion.

It will be interesting to see the share price over the next few days.

The news didn't really affect the price today.

It amazes me at the same time it literally pains me how these iPhone fans will ingest all of what they are calling "abuse" from Apple and Jobs, yet continue to remain at the party to take in more abuse. Nobody wants leave the party, this is why it amazes and pains me at the same time.

Here's the same old, same old rants from the dissatisfied iPhone 4 customers yet continue to stay at the party for more abuse:

"I'm pissed that Apple hasn't even acknowledged that there's something wrong with the iPhone 4" (although it was only less than a week since it was released but the bitching started).

"I'm pissed that Jobs told me that I was holding the phone wrong"

"I'm pissed that Apple finally puts out a statement, yet it's not the one I wanted from them"

"I'm pissed that Apple told me to put a bumper on my phone, they should be free" (interesting that most people here who've called in got a free bumper sent to them)

"I'm pissed that Apple didn't care about left handed people and told me to put the phone in my right hand" (isn't your right hand busy sometimes :D)

"I'm pissed because Apple won't extend the 30 day return period after the so-called "Fix"

"I'm pissed that Apple thinks we're stupid by telling us that they are fixing the signal bars when there's more wrong with the phone than that"

"I'm pissed at Apple because they temporarily stopped production of the white iPhone 4".

Do you guys ever hear yourselves? Many of the same people rant about every one of these plus more yet they can simply do one thing to rid themselves of all the stress (Unless they like stress, but I don't), they can RETURN THE PHONE, but why won't they?, because Steve has got them wrapped around his finger. ;)

all I know is that our local news in vancouver canada is doing a story on it tonight. The fact that it isn't even released here yet and the average person knows nothing about these forums and the current issues, I can see it denting their sales when it is.

I have purchased many items, some big ticket, that CR gave a bad
rating to.

All worked out great and to my advantage. I like reviews from everyday users, not some guy in a lab. His finding may be correct for that situation, but how does it float in the real world?

Agreed.

There's a whole lot of crazy lately

.
Jony I've is bringing Apple down all by himself.

-iPhone external antenna = fail
-iMac yellow screen = fail
-iMac flickering = fail
-iPad huge bezel = fail
-Mirror for a screen on macbooks = fail
-Cracked iPod screens = fail

How much longer do we have to deal with this magical moron???

I think it is more likely a production problem. I have no doubt the prototypes work fine, but Apple evidently doesn't have effecting quality control people in China. Otherwise, problems would be nipped in the bud and consumers wouldn't be the ones discovering the problems.

It completely amazes me how when Apple get it a bit wrong the world comes to an end but Microsoft. Dell and most other tech companies produce crap and no one says a word.
I'm not being a fan boy here. I've had my beefs with Apple products, but if eventually they failed to satisfy me I just take them back.
But with Apple it's a huge thing over the slightest fault and the lawyers come out screaming for blood.
Bitchers....... get a life or a different phone:rolleyes:

How wreckless fanboys are getting

return it if u don't like it?

The iPhone is now our life

That's like taking us off life support

seriously - stop copping out - big issue - fix it - because everything else is great except the ****ty notification system and no full bt support

Everyone should do their own 30 day review and see for themselves if its worth keeping. If you find some of the flaws interfere with your using enjoyability take it back. If enough people do this there will be an improved effort on Apples part to get an improved version out quick fast and in a hurry.

If you don't care how it works and will keep it because its an apple product, God Bless you.

Dude you've made you point, calm down, not everyone is going to agree with you but if you keep digging at it you'll only make more people not agree with you.

Personally I agree with some of what you say but disagree with some points you've brought up besides the iP4.

I know.... I'm laying low now.... thanks.... shhhhhhhh...........

You should direct that to the individual who posted a picture of Steve Jobs as Osama bin Laden. As a New Yorker who was here during 9/11, I watched in horror as people I knew died. Comparing Steve Jobs to a terrorist who killed thousands is despicable and tasteless.

That photo looks NOTHING like Dick Cheney!!!

And even less like CIA asset OBL.

Clueless indeed.

I hope it has a noticeable effect. Apple needs a serious pimp slap for trying to tell us there's no design flaw and a software update is all that's required.

As much as I love my phone, Apple deserves this and more. Not so much for making a physically flawed product. It's rare but it happens to the best of them. It's more for the lies and extremely poor handling of the situation.

Is there an app that tells you that you're holding it wrong? :D

Sure. The Phone app.

Go to any place with exactly -90 dBm of signal. Most other cell phones with -109 dBm of receiver sensitivity and 10 to 19 dBm of loss from covering the antenna will hold a connection. The iPhone with -113 dBM of sensitivity and a max 24 dBm loss might drop the call if your hands are moist enough (-90 - 24 = -114 which is probably too weak a signal to communicate).

Any stronger a signal and all the phones, including the i4, should be able to hold the connection. But with a few dBm weaker signal, many other popular cell phones could potentially drop the call in some hold or position.

As you can see, the signal strength range where the i4 behaves differently from other cell phones is actually a limited range, which is probably why only a certain select segment of customers are complaining about this issue. All other customers already were used to bad coverage and dropped calls with previous cell phones, use a case, or had good enough coverage for the i4 even when not optimally handled uncased.

A resonable request. I plan on doing just that..... AT&T upgrade in a few weeks for 2 phones. If it doesn't work or the software fix fails, I plan on exchanging it for the upcoming Samsung Captivate android.
