Have there been any "You're holding it wrong" jokes yet? Didn't see any yet so....... these users are obviously holding it wrong.

Edit to add: ^^^^ you have to be kidding me *waves fist*

Sure, like "antennagate" where Apple says that nothing was wrong with the iPhone 4 antenna. But provided a free rubber bumper just to quiet the masses. Then when the iPhone 4S comes out it has a different antenna than the 4 to fix the problem? Is that the "gate" you are refering to? While I love my iPhone, iPad 2, and MacBook Air, Apple is expected to produce higher quality products and thus are held to a higher standard than other brands, and should as the ask a premium price for said products.

The antenna was a problem. Fine.

How about when Ryan Block at gdgt.com tried to manufacture "Glassgate", saying that a piece of debris or sand "could" get in between the back glass and a slide on case and scratch the glass or even shatter it if the debris is too big. No known occurences of this. Just something that COULD happen.

That's exactly like what this whole heat thing is. Someone says their iPad got warm with use. Now it's been spun so out of proportion that people are saying they could get 3rd degree burns from checking Twitter on their iPads.

It's irresponsible journalism and it's only happening to get clicks. Honestly, Apple should go after sites like that.

Wirelessly posted

Went in two separate shops earlier. All new iPads were hot to the touch. WTF hot. Not burn me hot but like wtf. All iPad 2s were fine.

Bottom left corner and that's before I read reports of where the heat is supposed to be.

Blaming CR for this not going to stop the complaining because CR reported was complete true. It gets quite a bit hotter than the iPad2. That is a fact. Noticed that none the sights are really blowing up as a real issue. People are going to complain because it is warmer.

Not charging while when max out is fine as well. It is an accepted practice in battery powered device that the external power is more designed more normal usage than max usage and max power use is allowed to exceed max external power because missing power is pulled from the battery.

Wrong. People expect Apple to follow through with their words and marketing. If you MARKET a product to be perfect, and you sell it at a like price, then yes, I expect perfect. Can I handle a $200 tablet rebooting every now and then or having some bugs? Yes. I spent $200 on it.

this argument is completely subjective, whilst $200 may not seem like a lot to you, i sure as hell would want anything i spend $200 on to work flawlessly...

there definitely is a worldwide recognition that Apple produce quality products, and people buy it for that reason - my mum being one.

as i said, this is all subjective, i personally would never use an iPad for more than an hour at a time so for me this is a non issue.

GREAT NEWS!!! :):)

With waterproof cover, we can use iPad 3 to heat water for baths or potatoes or spaghetti!!!

iPad HD SH [superheated]... save energy, buy an iPad 3!

So is hotter than my iPhone 4s

So is it hotter than my iPhone 4s? My iPhone 4s gets very hot while playing Real Racing 2, and I'm not the first to notice that the iPhone 4s gets hot while playing games. There's been no controversy over that, so why so much over this?

I think this is an issue to people because it marks a negative change it a great form factor, the iPad1 and 2 ran so cool, that it was amazing. I had been used to warming my legs with my MacBook, so using an iPad for similar things without cooking the flesh was great..

Another said 97 degrees

I saw another article yesterday that said it heats up to 97 degrees.http://www.appleinsider.com/article...hows_operating_temperature_of_97_degrees.html
All I know is that mine was a bit warmer the night I got it, Friday while it was downloading apps and charging, since then it's not warmer that I notice, I am disabled and I use mine much of the time. In the evening when I use it 4 to 5 hours at a stretch working on graphics and the like, I plug it in while using it, the 10w charger, sorry if my terminology is not correct, and it will charge and not loose any charge if it's up to 100% already. Last night it was on 88% and up to 100% when I turned it off for the night. Just my experience ,oh and I saw one other, I do not have a yellow screen..
Thanks

I love the way our local news covered this stating that the new iPad is overheating thus causing consumer concerns about possible burns. WHAT? It's NOT over heating, it's getting warm so there is a big difference. If they screw up the facts like this I can just imagine how many other stories they have messed up, which ............... I'm sure are just about every one of them.

Vita+3DS

Maybe now people start to understand and appreciate the handhelds. iPad can be great for casual gaming but for serious gaming experience its really bad.
Its heavy to hold for longer time, it gets hot, no physical buttons, bad shape for handheld gaming.

Technically, USB 3.0 is faster than FireWire 800, and USB 2.0 is faster than FireWire 400, but those promised speeds are even more BS than the promised speeds of other wires. I'm pretty sure that in real life, FW 800 beats USB 3.0.
I agree completely on USB2 vs FW400. But technically, 3 is much faster than FW800, up to 6x (5Gbps theoretical, but I think 3Gb is more "real world"). Even with some USB latency that should be pretty good. But I've never used it, so I got nothing real.
I would saw you should learned to read because instead you going insulting.
I'm sorry if I insulted your power supply. How gauche!
I'm not even going to bother talking with you anymore. What a waste of my life.

Just tried Infinite Blade II. After a couple of minutes play, the bottom left side became pretty hot. I was resting the iPad on my lap, and it was definitely not comfortable.

I used to play for 2 hours non-stop on iPad 1 without feeling hot. It's not a good trend, for sure.

Everything is a compromise, no product is perfect. The true cause is the years of hype leading up to the present time. Apple's penchant for using exaggerated claims (I'm not complaining, just sharing an observation) like the original advertising slogan for the iPad "Its Magical & Revolutionary" is taken literally by many.

That was & is one of Apples successful methods of impressing customers who believe & buy into that type of thing. It's also the type of technique used in many forms of advertising in the USA, therefore it's not unique to Apple. What made it so effective as it pertains to Apple was Steve Jobs brilliant ability to sell nearly anything to anyone.

I don't mind the heat since it's a characteristic of Apple products.

Steve Jobs...

not trying to invoke the name of jobs as an extreme, but i really don't think he would've tolerated all the compromises of this ipad. The larger thickness, the heat, the charging, all very "non-apple".

Apple products have always stood head and shoulders above the rest because of little refinements that make the product simple and a joy to use. This ipad seems to take a step back from that.

I noticed the charging problem. I'm going to call Ape and see what they say. I plugged my iPad into my computer during initial setup / syncing and noticed I actually lost 2% power in that hour.

If this is the case, I'll be returning mine!

I had that problem too with the first iPad...

Then I found out the USB ports in my desktop aren't powered.

There's an obvious solution - - go back to playing your two hours of Infinite Blade II on your iPad 1.

You know this first hand? Did you compare your iPad 2 to your new iPad? Just curious.

yep. If playing a CPU heavy game it get noticeably warmer. Plus you have the Apple boards blowing up from people who upgraded. Saying that it does not get warmer is like putting your head in the sand.

It doesn't even need to be "extremely heavy load" to prevent charging while plugged in. In my experience, any use of the new iPad while it is connected to the charger will prevent the battery from charging. It will maintain its current battery status without dropping under normal loads, but I have to leave my iPad alone before it starts to charge.

I have a mophie external battery that will charge the iPad 3 while I am using it. It is only 2.1 not the 10w of the iPad charger. Used it for about an hour while plugged in to the mophie battery and it gained about 10%. If yours never charges while in normal use, there may be an issue with your unit. Might want to set up an appointment with a genius.
