Absolutely correct. The CR tests show us the iPhone 6 is less resistant to deformation than the iPhone 5, the "next step" through real world use will be to see if the iPhone 6 is "strong enough" for everyday use. Only the use by hundreds of thousand of "average users" will give us that answer.

Exactly. The actual real world testing process is currently in progress. If the bending stays at a miniscule number, end of drama. If large numbers of bent phones turn up in the next few months, the drama is just beginning.

So is the Unbox Therapy guy either supernaturally strong or was he using some sort of fake/doctored iPhone 6 unit?

Edit: So apparently he made a new video of a newly unboxed 6 Plus and he was able to majorly deform it with just his bear hands again. Although the phone did disappear from view of the camera for a few seconds before he did the bending so he could have swapped it? Either way, the guy got 41m views on the original video. By my working out he's made about $41,000 from ad revenue alone on that video. Apple should sue him and take it all back. :p

In the new video, the phone bends like butter. Something smells fishy.

I just watched the CR video, which I hadn't previously (had only read the text). Don't see how anyone can be satisfied by that thin bar pressing down in the center of the phone. That doesn't seem to replicate any "real world" stress situation a phone will encounter (let alone address the charge that the iPhone has a weakness at a specific point in its chassis).

Same with the dude from Unbox Therapy.

In no real world situation you apply a twisting moment on both ends of the phone plus a 2 point load on the back of the phone.

It's nuts!!

You haven't proven anything. :)

Not me...physics has!

Blame Newton!!!

I almost don't post, but I have to chime.
This is getting ridiculous. "Oh wait, there is a Moto X in my bag, LETS TEST THE MOTO X" Brought you by Motorola.
Indeed the iPhone 6+ has a weak point, but I really get mad bout this guy on backwards bb cap, "my focus was on the center" What? Really??? The thumb was on the exact weak point, while the other hand was torsioning the rest of the phone around that point. Great, I will have mine in a week and Ill try by myself the pocket test, not this stupidity

Correct, it is their opinion that it won't be an issue. Their test proves nothing about real world use just like bending it with your hands doesn't prove it will bend in your pocket. The next month or two will go a long way toward dispelling the issue or confirming it.

Yeah, but given their experience in testing products, the conclusion of the test is an informed opinion based on their expertise.

I've provided mathematical evidence that he is lying.

I'm not saying he lied about the bending of the phone.

I'm saying he lied about the way he bent the phone.

If you think about his situation and put it in a physics perspective what he says doesn't add up.

http://imgur.com/a/FBegH This link pretty much confirms the flawed design. Let's face it, Apple blew it with the Antenna gate and they blew it with this bendgate. They can make mistakes as every other person in the world. Saying that is impossible for a company like Apple to oversight this is in the wrong, just look at iOS 8.0.1.

Why? I commented on the relevant parts and ignored the things you made up.

Yes, but it does so based on pure speculations. They are not making any additional tests that supports the claims, it's not evidence. I mean I think you must have posted that link at least ten times in this thread, but it's not the "smoking gun" you seem to think it is.
First of all, I did not "made up" (=invented) anything in this posting, but 1. I named some assumptions people here were writing about this guy and the video, marked with a question mark asking if that is your concern with the guy too. And 2. I described why I think this article might has some point.
Furthermore, please let other people decide themselves where and how often they are doing something. Thank you very much.
I don't think here is some kind of "smoking gun" (I'm very sorry to disappoint you maybe...), but a real concern. Because, I actually plan to buy the iPhone 6, since my 4 is dying slowly...

There's talk he might have taken away the internal reinforcement bars

when everyone thought he was gonna Unbox a new phone he appears with one already out of the box and already activated

If you chose to see it that way. It's currently being field tested by hundreds of thousands, perhaps a couple of million users. That is where the real world testing is. It will either go away soon or explode into a major issue.

I am with you 100%, and at this time if I were Apple I would at least be a little concerned and watching this issue like a hawk.

As I mentioned previously, this issue has a huge "visual cue" (e.g., it can be easily photographed, videoed, and posted/replayed across the Internet and television), this was not the case with Antennagate which was harder to display via photo or video.

I can just see someone on a morning talk show demonstrating "watch how I can easily bend my iPhone 6" with millions of viewers "sheep" watching intently. If I were Samsung, I would spend a fortune to try to get a so-called "informed person" booked on these kinds of shows for a 5 minute segment to demonstrate the bending. That amount of negative impact would be worth a fortune to Apple's competition.

That link doesn't prove anything

All phones have weak points

The iPhone 6 has it by the volume rockers

Other phones will have it by other places.

No one here is saying the phone is unbendable...

End of story

Yes, well why are we having this discussion then? Everyone should just quit and come back in two months. I brought up the same point earlier in the thread btw.

Yea, there's talk that he may have taken out internal reinforcements . And where did this talk come from? A MacRumors users undocumented suggestion. Priceless.

most Android phones would never ever survive this test.

Ill gladly take a phone that can "bend ever so slightly more" but wont happen in real life scenarios that has better drop damage shock protection and better when being slid across surfaces and durability then the competition (SquareTrade says this)

Breaking out the Moto X pretty much destroys this guys credibility. It's safe to say he's a paid promoter.

It's bent because idiots everywhere are going to the stores and purposely trying to bend them now.

Those phones don't get out in pockets or subjected to any external forces besides people handling them as demos.

Apple, and other stores, will have to lock up the iPhones and only let people handle them under supervision. It seems iPhones at the carrier stores, Walmart, Best Buy, etc aren't getting bent just by people looking at them.

Look at both videos

He either pumped up iron and was on steroids or there's something foul..

he struggles much more in the first video than in the second. The iPhone looks like it's made of paper...

This is too easy - - go to Apple Store, bend iPhone, snap pic, post to Internet
I was with you...

... until this bit

instant paycheque from Samsung!

Enough with the pointless hate, especially if you want to come across as being a credible sensible human being.

What?!? When did the rules for this thread change?

My apologies - - I thought I was in the batsh_t insane theory thread.

Wats considered normal? For example, could an almost hippopotamus sized human sitting on the phone be considered as a normal human body movement?

I think we can all be reasonable adults for at least a moment, yes?

Phone in the front or back pocket on a stroll. 150 lb dude reaches down to tie his shoe. Normal fit jeans.

Do you approve of such behavior, or is that out of bounds for anyone who owns an iPhone 6+?

Guy goes to a party in his hopelessly out of style relaxed fit jeans. No matter - he's got a 6+ to show off and the chicks will fawn over it's immense size. After he lets a few of the ladies stroke it, he shoves it in his front pocket, gets a beer, and sits on a sofa for a bit.

Is that an ok iPhone 6+ usage scenario, or is this guy stupid?

Doesn't matter. A mobile phone should withstand normal human body movements. If it can't be stowed in a pocket then Apple should include a disclaimer.

Makes a great deal of difference. Imagine the IP6+ as thick as the 5S say. Now imagine it in your front pocket with little distance between your hip bone and the phone. Now think about kneading or bending to pick something very low. That will cause injury or at the very least discomfort based entirely on speed of movement/inertia.

Also a larger phone will not fit in the average pocket. And we think of girls trousers, they're figure hugging and the phone will protrude.

The phone is study for everyday use. Just need bigger pockets and available space within the garment in instances of sitting or knealing. I'd say it matters a lot.

In the second video he knows exactly how to bend it quickly and easily. Does this mean it will bend in your pocket? No. Does the CR test mean it won't? No. Real world use will give us the true information.
