Just take it back.
If someone needs to CONVINCE you to keep it, you don't need it.
It depends. I am 17, have a new desktop in the house, a decent working laptop, an I got the iPad. I had this dilemma before purchasing but I couldn't bring myself to return it now. I was discussing this with my friend who has the original iPad in their house, and he said he doesn't use it because he doesn't see the point, but it depends if you are going to use it to its full potential. I use mine for air video, forums, genera, browsing, kindle for reading books, newspapers, magazines and games. I hardly use my laptop now! It is just so much more convenient to use the iPad and is battery life is amazing.
I have the Apple wireless keyboard which works a treat for typing out longer things, but this I am typing on the touchscreen at the moment, I have also pre-ordered a case for my iPad which let me stand it up so I can use it as a laptop to type essays, etc. The thing I like about this is its so light and portable and can do so much and the screen doesn't give me a headache or strain my eyes like the laptop, so I can use it for ages unlike the laptop, and the laptop gets uncomfortable on my laps after a while because it's obviously heavier. I still use my laptop and desktop but the iPad is always by my side due to it's portability and battery.
If you are not going to use it to it's potential, or if you need the money then return it. it really depends how much you find yourself needing to use the Internet. For simple tasks such as essays the iPad is fine IMO, you can browse the net, type essays, etc. How about you see if you can live with the iPad and then cancel the laptop?
But at the end of the day, only you can answer this question, and if you feel like you will not use it, then return it, as others have said, you an always buy it at a later stage. But I cannot imagine living without my iPad now, it will always be a must have for me.

thank you! i really appreciate it. and to everyone else, i thought a lot about buying it and was 100% confident when i did. it's just sometimes people doubt what they do but now i'm certain i will keep it.
I am guessing you are "young", so I just thought I would recommend the nylon cases at Maroo.com, they have funky designs, I have ordered a grafiti one, there is a thread on the cases in the iPad accessories thread.
If you download movies/tv then get air video, you can stream music, etc from your computer, well if you have a proper commuter in the house.
Trust me, I used to say the iPad is a waste of money and overpriced, etc, and when others were saying they were going to buy it, I used to tell them it is rubbish, but now I am the first one of those people to get it and I am sure they will follow suit. The great thing about it is that it IS a big iPod touch! The kindle app is also fantastic, the brightness can be decreased to a very low level in the kindle app itself so you don't strain your eyes.
How long have you had it for? I doubted my purchase in my first few days as well (please ignore the terrible grammar), but now I don't know why I ever did. I admit it is expensive, but its so worth it.
I have never liked laptops for the reasons I thought I would. I commute a lot and fly every now and then too. I am a very "plugged in" type of person. I have NEVER liked laptops for traveling. They're a pain to get through the airport, they're a pain to use in your airplane seat, they're a pain to maneuver on the train without being really annoying to whoever is sitting next to you. When I use my laptop, it's usually at home at the kitchen table, but when I'm home doing heavy computing, I'd rather go downstairs and use my tower anyway.
For this reason, I'm probably going to sell my laptop once I get my iPad. Right now I use my iPhone for movies, books, games, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Soon, my iPad will take over most of those duties. Call it a giant iPod if you will, but most of the stuff I do on my iPhone would be a lot better on a bigger screen. My iPhone will now be more for calls, texts, and if I need a 3G signal for my iPad.
EDIT: Just a footnote--If you couldn't tell, for my life and my usage, I find a laptop to be even more unnecessary than an iPad.
I don't know. It's cool and all. But having a computer, getting a laptop in a month, and having an Android phone makes it seem like I don't really need it. My sister was asking me why I would get one if I'm getting a laptop and I saw her point.
Why should I keep it? What will the iPad 2 be capable of and all?

STOP RIGHT THERE!!!
Before you say another word, go to your nearest Apple Store and return your iPad 2.
NO MORE WORDS... no more words.
Just get in your car and go.
How will you make any serious choices in your life if you can't even decide on returning something you bought?
ditto!
i just don't understand it..
