I had one of those, too - a Sharp 814SH, IIRC. Beautiful screen, convoluted UI, $2/minute for extremely blocky, low-res video calls, and the worst browser known to man. Fantastic screen, though.

It was the SH905i/906i. DoCoMo's UI was far better than SoftBank's was a few years ago. Far better than the UI on the 8xx/9xx Sharps anyways.

At least the 'PC' browser (NetFront) had Flash  But yeah, Yahoo Keitai/i-mode/EZWeb was horrible.

And you know what? I'd rather pay $2 a minute to have the option to do low-res video calls over 3G to any other 3G video call capable phone rather than only being able to use video calling over WiFi, and only to other iPhone4s. Lot of use that is. At least it's free

Posts like this make me wanna puke.

No one here said that it was new technology. They're simply praising the nice screen. Just because one (or likely a few) phones back 3 years ago had similar dpi, doesn't mean that every smart phone on the market currently has this high of screen resolution.

Point being, we're happy it's on the iPhone. Who cares if it was available 3 years ago? We're enjoying it now, whereas most smart phones currently pale in comparison.

Your argument is moot and irrelevant to this thread. Nothing you said makes "beyond amazing" and "raised the bar" untrue.

I agree with everyone else... that screen is beautiful.

Puke all you want. Don't like what I think, don't read and don't reply. Simple as that.

Lucky for you, that's still an option.

Well it's 60 cents a minute on SoftBank and 20 cents per minute on 3 Hong Kong now. Not sure how much it is on NTT docomo but it can't be $2 like it was years ago.

If you can afford an iPhone and the (relatively expensive) iPhone plans on SoftBank you can afford 60 cents an minute.

Unless I'm missing something (I prolly am, heh)?

I see what you did there

What?

Its gorgeous! Puts everything else on the market well and truly in the shade!!!

Indeed it does. I'm just waiting for some more of my games/apps to be updated to take advantage of it! At least text-centric apps (CNN, Facebook, etc) looked great right off the bat ...

Best display? World of difference? Beyond amazing? Raised the bar?
Not to piss on your party or anything but my 3 year old phone had an Mobile ASV (AQUOS tech, 170 degree viewing angle) screen with 326ppi. Nothing special.

I suppose y'all think FaceTime is the first video calling technology too?

Industry and history tend not to care necessarily about the products "first" to implement a technology, but rather the products that made it popular and common. Market influence is the key.

Your Softbank Aquos phone doesn't have that. The iPhone does.

Anybody have a website that I can go to or a picture I can google to show off the differences between the 4 and previous iPhones/ iPod Touches?

I tried New York Times but when you zoom in, the text simply scales up so it looks the same.

Completely agree with the OP. This screen is crazy good. I did not expect anyone to come out with a screen this dense anytime soon. I mean, its perfect! And not just the resolution, but also the contrast and colors and those incredibly deep blacks. Try an app that shows white text on a black background... Amazing. Apple truly blew everyone else out of the water here. I realize they were not the first, but they truly are the best.

Amongst smartphones, does the iPhone 4...

Have the best display?
Tied or marginally better than the Galaxy S. Galaxy S is less crisp but color-wise it's amazing but the 2nd point is subjective.

World of difference?
Yes. Just compare any smartphone's display with i4.

Beyond amazing?
Subjective.

Raised the bar?
Yes.

I'm sorry, but even if Sharp were the 1st to have a 326ppi display, not only did they not make it popular, but their screen is not a 3.5" screen; it really is more impressive and it'll only be more impressive if we reach those densities on larger screens.
