The Dell can't run OSX.
Hehe, well yeah it won't run it perfectly. But that isn't quite true.. http://www.osx86project.org/

If I have to convince you to get it, you must not really want one.

Perhaps this person merely asked the question to start a debate about what laptop is better. I think its a very interesting question...

Now, @ crazlunatic...

You said you are on occasional gamer. The MacBook is not capable of most games you'd want to play. It has only integrated graphics - poor choice from Apple on what to put in their (seemingly) most common machine.
This means that 3D gaming is awful... Trust me. I have integrated graphics on my PC. Awful.

But for everything else, the MacBook is a very good choice for a laptop. It has enough grunt for low-level things (Camino, iWork, iLife yada yada), but dont expect it to hold its own if youre doing especially demanding things. I'd suggest getting a MacBook Pro if you do want to. Much better investment.

Oh yeah, look at that http://www.apple.com/getamac

It'll teach you everything you need to know.
But don't be brainwashed -- by either camp. Make your own decision.
Btw, Vista sucks.
XD

i must disagree with you here. my macbook runs halo fairly well. sure it doesn't have realistic reflections or shadows, but it works for me. and a vast majority of the people who buy macbooks don't do anything 3D anyway.

agreed :D

I meant newer 3D games. Halo isn't really new anymore... though it's still a good game. Call of Duty 3 etc. is the sort of game I wouldn't expect a Macbook to be able to run. If only it had a real graphics card, it'd be the perfect laptop...

Oh yeah, another good 3D game for integrated graphics is Deus Ex. That runs brilliantly on my comp. Hah, well anything before 2002 runs well, really.

I just bought one, I convinced my parents to buy one, I convinced a friend to get one. Actually fired up iChat the other day and it is very cool, and works amazingly well.

OSX is just so simple, but you can do so much with it. I keep telling the new mac owners all this cool stuff that you can do (like, color code your incoming e-mails, how to set up automator to resize and FTP your photos for you, etc) that are simple but really, really useful.

And I don't know anyone who used a Mac for a long period of time and went back to Windows (except, maybe for a cheap gaming rig). I use XP at work, and it drives me crazy, having to edit documents all day and not having the ability to resize quickly to fit, expose, or color coding folders/files means they have to pay me a little overtime, until I can convince my boss I need a shiny new iMac at work :D

lol! I love how many people think he's an 11-year-old. He's in grade 11! He's probably 17.

Although he might not be much smarter than an 11yo since he had to ask why he should get a mac ;-)
